Palmgrove Hotel, Chennai

Worst experience ever! We stayed in this hotel 3 yrs back and it was decent. So decided to stay in the same place due to its proximity to the US consulate. We stayed 2 nights. Arrived arnd 7pm, checked in, got room. Everything was well till next morning. TV was not working. they sent a replacement remote control after 1/2 hr. Ok. Suddenly toilet stopped flushing and we had to GO! called them, they said someone will be over right away. no one came. Again called them. again noone. Could tolerate anymore so went in the toilet that doesnt flush :( Went to the reception desk and asked them what's the problem, why they arent sending anyone to fix a broken toilet. Lot of excuses! GRRR....Finally someone came and fixed it about 2 hrs after we complained :( It was sooooooo hot and we were so frustrated with so much time waste as we wanted to go visit some temples. But we were so pi__ed off! we thought we will rest for some time and switched on the AC! Next BIG surprise! AC was not working GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.....Again called them, they said electrician was on leave and they will call some backup! we got so fed up we left and went to an AC restaurant and sat there eating for some time just for the AC! Next day went for a bath, saw cockroaches and earthworms roaming freeeeeely in the bathroom YUCK! the door was all rusted, bucket was rusted what not!! Went to talk to the manager and talked to him about the state of things! He said we will see. do u want us to move u to another room. I told him we were going to check out in few hrs and now he gives us another room! Thanks but no thanks! And finally when we checked out, the "room-boy" grandpa was standing nearby and the receptionist told us to "take care" of him! Dint want to get into another fight so just "paid" Rs 20 and we ran off!! And they charge soooo much in the name of "Luxury tax"! Biggest scam I would say! Worst place ever! Dont get cheated by these scammers!

palm grove hotel is a moderate and decent hotel . Only veg food and in nthe heart of the city. Very near us consulate . It is the only hotel with cottages in the city. good people to stay with and good rooms and rates. You must stay to know it. it is not a big star hotel but some of the star hotels dont have the facilities and environment that palm grove gives. try it to know it. krs - gilpin travel manager , chennai

this was the worst place we visited. the service is very very poor and the rooms are as dirty as ever. the food tastes very bad.

This hotel is fine for a night or 2 to explore the city. The room was a good size, hot water is solar polared (ecologically sound) but therefore only available at certain times of day. Rooms are fairly clean. However at time of writing a double with aircon was 1700Rs plus tax whcih seemed a bit overpriced compared to other places we stayed. Staff friendly enough when you smile and are friendly with them. Excellent vegatarian restaurant next door.

It is very closer to US consulate, to attend the visa interview, being at the heart of the city, Gemini Flyover. Sort of walking distance. Decent shopping malls are there closeby, and food courts, vegetarian/non veg alike. Cost is pretty simple and low, homely atmosphere. They might take a little extra time to deliver food to room, but it doesnt matter, seems to be the norm in Chennai.
