Description

Located within a short walk from Ueno Park Zoo, this ryokan provides travelers a hospitable and calm Japanese inn atmosphere. It is an inexpensive base for both sightseeing and business, within easy access of attractions and central Tokyo. Only Japanese style rooms are available, with or without private bath. The ryokan stages occasional events, such as a lion dance or tea ceremony. The hotel is annually closed from December 29 to January 3 for New Year's holidays.

Great service, great experience

This Ryokan was great to stay at, the owners were friendly and very helpful- spoke enough English to assist too! The rooms were clean and convenient - the updated bathrooms were beautiful. Free internet available = although a slow connection at that time. Breakfast also available - however I was never awake early enough to order. There is a curfew, but unlike most places, you can still get in after curfew time if you requested a key before leaving. The location was not as convenient as some other Ryokans, however the plus side was it was a quiet place to stay. Safe and clean area - highly recommend staying here for families and quieter travelers. Those who want the Tokyo nightlife and partying scene may not be suited due to the location.

great service, beautiful baths

We just returned from 6 nights at Sawanoya Ryokan - 2 adults and 3 children aged 4yrs, 2yrs and nearly 1yr. The owners couldn't be more pleasant, helpful and tolerant of our noisy group! The room was spacious and the place was kept spotless. The baths were wonderful. I would highly recommend this wonderful Ryokan to all.

DEFINITELY RETURNING

we were recommended this place by friends who'd been there a few months earlier. Very friendly people, easy to find from the local underground station. There is a curfew but they will give you a key to let yourself in after hours, unlike a number of Ryokans. There's a couple of free computers, no printer unfortunately but, hey ,it's free as is the tea and coffee. The rooms were very nice, comfortable futons, effective A/C . The local area is great just to walk around and get lost in and it's only about 15 mins away from Ueno park, which is a great place to wander through as well as home to a zoo, lots of galleries and the Tokyo Museum The owners looked after our luggage while we travelled around other areas for a few days and also on our last day before we went to the aitport, and they booked a taxi to get us to the local JR station. Can't recommend them too highly, we'll be back
