Good and Bad

The Hotel Cap Diamant is in a perfect location in the old city within easy walking distance to the Chateau Frontenac, the port, and many restaurants. The younger staff and the cleaner are very friendly and helpful.
The rooms vary in terms of quality and size. In general the rooms on the very top floor appear better equipped than those on the lower floors. Rooms 5 (with one large bed) and 6 (with two beds) are charmingly old fashioned and room six has a fairly large bathroom. I would avoid room 1 which is shabby, decorated in pink with hunting scenes on the wallpaper and has a very small bathroom.
Guest should be aware that there are no phones in the rooms. There is wireless internet (although it went on and off a lot during my stay). There are also small refrigerators and kettles in the rooms.
There is a pretty and spacious outside patio in the back but the indoor veranda is a bit tacky. The biggest disappointment, particularly considering the price, is the breakfast. It consists of a tiny table with stale store-bought white rolls, kraft jelly and vache qui rit cheese, frozen orange juice and some tired looking fruit. You self-serve on a flimsy white plastic tray which only adds to the institutional effect (but prisoners probably get better breakfasts). This alone is a reason not to come back as it demonstrates the owners' indifference to their guests.
