Let me start my review by saying that when we travel we spend most of our time out sightseeing and basically just come to our hotel to sleep. As such we're OK with staying at budget friendly places that are less comfortable since we're barely at the hotel. When I read the other reviews I thought that they were written by people who were expecting a 'Ritz' type experience and then disappointed by Maya Caribe This place however was worse than even the generally low expectations that we had. It's a real dump. Think $20 roach motel on the beach. The building is really rundown. The toilet leaked onto the bathroom floor. The bathroom door doesn't close. The lights didn't work. The noisy air conditioner sounded like a Harley Davidson running. Cracks on the walls, ceiling panels that were falling out. Furniture/patio chairs so filthy that you don't want to sit on it. Lizards running on the walls. You can hear everything in the hallway. And there's another (nice looking) hotel be constructed next door so you hear all that racket. Don't be fooled by the pictures (we were). They make the place look really nice. The staff do the best with a bad situation and they're clearly used to people who are disappointed. Sadly we were actually looking forward to leaving Cancun to get out of the hotel. I also blame bookit dotcom (our travel agent) for overselling on the description. It's not worth the number of stars they gave it. Don't ruin your vacation by staying here. It's not worth the money you save.
