Eugenia Victoria Hotel, San BARTOLOMé de Tirajana

my first thought as the taxi pulled up outside the hotel was that it looked quite nice, and the location was ok too... but when we woke up for breakfast the next day that was all to change! the only way to describe the buffet breakfast was like feeding time at the zoo. there were swarms of angry (and hungry) germans and dutch etc barging past and pushing and shoving in order to get the last bread roll! the food itself was extremely dissappointing - and this is coming from somebody who is NOT a fussy eater. if you like undercooked soggy sausages and nauseating chemical-like smells coming from your plate then this is the place for you! the pool area was quite nice, although i'd strongly advise anybody not to leave their towels unattended on the loungers for more than 5 minutes otherwise they'll be confiscated and locked up until later - don't ask why! the service was definately the worst i have ever received at any hotel. there was very little english spoken - which was ok as i didnt expect them all to be cockneys - but it was just the lack of effort to provide customer service. i have to say the staff were just sooo grumpy! on our 2nd day i was called down to reception as the cleaner had been to the room and had found a small cigarette hole underneath the cushion on the couch - taking into consideration neither i nor my partner smoke. the manager was adament that it wasn't there before we arrived and i found his attitude totally abusive and threatning. he threatened us to call police unless we paid 100 euros in damage costs! after i challenged him and explained that we simply couldn't afford to pay the fine he threatened to telephone the police - which was quite a daunting thought so eventually we paid up. due to the disgusting food we were forced to struggle to afford to eat out - even though we'd paid to go all inclusive! all in all not a very pleasant experience and very nearly ruined our holiday.
