Hôtel Maison Doree, Tunis

Nice building, friendly staff, excellent location. I could book a room only a few days before I got there. It was a nice and clean room with a private bathroom, nice bed, and airconditioning, very much needed in summer! The location is very good since it is close to the bus-, train-, and metro station. The staff was very friendly, including the housekeeping lady. Nice bed, clean sheats, etc. Breakfast was fine, French, so more then the usual cup of coffee. It was possible to leave your passport behind and also luggage for a couple of days. All in all; very much recommended!

I loved what everyone else loved : the location, the big room (I had a single with bath), the breakfast and the meals; the staff was friendly and although my room did not overlook any gardens, the room was quiet. The price was also good. I was surprised by the very negative above comment.

We signed in and thought the hotel was clean, conveniant, and comfortable. Good restaurant and quality of food and service. We were approached at the Medina by one of the hotel staff and harrassed to buy carpets and perfume after we repeatedly told him we were not interested. Very confrontational and my son and I ended up giving him a token sum to get out. We returned to the hotel and checked out to avoid dealing with him. All other impressions were favorable.

I lived at the Maison Doree last summer for a few weeks and I have nothing but good things to say about the hotel! It's warm, yeah--heck! It's the Middle East! The staff is incredibly friendly. Make an effort to get to know them if you can because they're not only helpful, but they are interesting, too. Breakfast is served daily and you for sure won't go hungry. Sure, there are things to be wary of in Tunisia--chiefly heat and robbery--but that's not a reflection of the Maison Doree. Rather, it's something all travelers should be aware of in the region. You can't go wrong at the Maison Doree!

Hotel Maison Doree is well located between the main street (centerville) of Tunis and the train station, within walking distance of both. It has an attractive lobby/reception, the staff speaks passable english, there is a lift. The rooms are spartan but clean and serviceable. Bath and toilet are on the hall. During the summer months, ask for an air-conditioned room (costs a little extra but worth it). Breakfast in the dining room is typically french, with good coffee, croisants, juice, butter and jam. Overall the hotel offers good value and is quite a find in the town center. Recommended.

The room was poor, cold (it was winter), and looking onto a very noisy street. Staff becomes quickly unpleasant. It was supposed to have "french manners" !!?? The WORST: they agreed to keep our bags in the left-luggage office for a couple of hours when we leaved. Time enough for being STOLEN (mobile phone, guide of Tunisia, and even cigarettes...). One last detail : the left-luggage office was key-locked... No comment. Tunis "plus jamais" .
