Worst hotel experience ever
The Hilton Garden Inn Austin Downtown -- and their incompetent managers -- do not honor year-old, group reservations made through Hilton by Hilton HHonors members. On top of that, they refuse to tell you why they cancelled your reservation less than 24 hours before you are due to check-in. Moral of the story, chances are this location will cancel your room, be rude to you when they do it, and offer you a half-assed resolution. Then when you go to a neighboring Hilton property that ISN'T a franchise like this one, they'll tell you "we NEVER heard they had a flood. They've had no issues that we were aware of. They just kicked you out because they are a franchisee and knew they could resell your room for a higher rate." Funny what you can get out of a manager at a different location, and funny how it all makes sense when you have a simple bit of understanding of the hotel industry.

TERRIBLE--NEVER GO THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/10/09
The place was terrible, first we got there and there was manditory valet parking. You pay an extra $25.00 for that, if you want. My family chose to park on the street since weekends at meters are free. Probably not the best option. We went downtown to check out the local shops and started to realize that this is a pretty bad part of the neighborhood for families to stay. We decided to stay in our room the rest of the night and watched homeless people and thugs on the streets all night long. This also explains why they give you a card and you have to use it everywhere you go, including the elevator. Apparently they had been having a problem with people coming in and taking things from the hotel, or rooms. My boyfriend went to get some food and several people came up to him asking for money and food. It made us very uncomfortable. From the beginning we didn't believe the hotel was very clean. The morning rolled around and I stepped out of bed, our floor was SOAKED. They had some sort of leak in the wall to where all of our belongings were soaked. When I went to bring it up to the lady she told me she was going to take 50% off of our bill and never appoligized. In fact, she told me it was a reaccuring problem. I began to think there must be a mold issue, too since the problem was obviously never properly addressed.. I didn't think 50% would suffice. For feeling so uncertain about my families safety, my family ended up complaining 3 times before they just wiped the full bill. It also ended up they charged for valet parking when we didn't even use that option!!!!!!! Absolutely not worth the money, you don't want this kind-of experience for your family!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Noise abounds at Hilton Garden Inn Austin Downtown
By jackk, 4/12/09
I stayed at the hotel on 4/17/09 and laying on the bedstand was a pair of earplugs with a note that says "Austin is the music capital of Texas, we can't do anything about the music, but these will help you sleep." About 8pm the bars on 6th street crank up and I could hear 3 distinct music venues from my room. Fortunately the music only lasted till 2am, the freeway noise from IH 35 lasted all night as well as the noise from the thousands of roosting birds (grackles I think) (when would these birds sleep, they certainly didn't stop making noise that night). If you are a light sleeper you need to stay away from here. There is also madatory valet parking for which you are charged an additional $25 per day and the valets still expect to be tipped. The staff was great, the food was fine though overpriced since you are paying from the view from the 18th floor. The room was fine, but because of the noise factor I would never stay there again.

never go back
By josefd, 2/29/08
restaurant service very slow and unfriendly rooms are more or less OK the accounting is absolutely terrible. Iwas forced to dispute the charge with credit card company. My bill included charges for room services that have never been provided. The hotel could not provide receipts for those and even three days after I left the corrected bill weas not available Will never come back

Worst hotel ever
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/7/07
These rooms were $250 per night We got there and there was no gift shop. They have what they call a pantry with a couple of things in it that you get and take to the front desk to pay for. We stopped for a drink in the bar, we waited 15 minutes and no bartender came our. There we 3 people in the bar so I went behind the bar and made my husband and I a drink. I noticed about 10 minutes later a bartender was back. There is one place to eat. I is bad. We never say more than 3 people in the restraunt. When you pay that much for a room you expect to have a place to eat. It was not opened most of the time. I will never recomend this hotel to anyone. I thought because it was a Hilton it would be better

Service and Cleanliness Was Great!
I love to have access to my automobile since I do a lot of travelling. The parking garage was valet. I guess it was secure, but I could not peak out the window and observe my vehicle. It was in downtown Austin. It was great. The pool was on the roof, so we got a lot of breeze and the shadow from a neaby rooftop made the pool too cold. The lobby was spacious and the staff was helpful. There were a lot of amenities and staff located throughout to guide you in the proper directions and provide towels for the pool. Oh, bring your cooler to the pool. It seemed to be a hangout for college students, but the hotel was setup for business travelers and high-profile guests.

Like Sleeping on the Highway? Here's Your Hotel!
By Sam, 6/4/07
I travel 200+ dates a year, and this is my worst experience yet! Thought I'd take the family down for a little R+R to Austin, one of our favorite cities. We got to the hotel and it was just aweful...Turns out we were not told that it was the Ride of Texas Biker Weekend! What a disaster, especially when you consider that we were there with our 6 and 8 year daughters! Now don't think we're prude's...We're from New Orleans and know a good time when it's around. The hotel was just terrible in trying to deal with our situation. They would not move us to a quieter room (Room faced right out on the highway...and it might as well have been inbetween lanes on the highway!). They were very "friendly', but they wouldn't do anything! Also, the walls were paper-thin (Our neighbors that came in at 3:00am couldn't have been louder). We did have a nice meal in the restaurant which was not too overpriced...But they could have stung us hard due to the fact that we were basically prisoners in the hotel! If you are going here on business, I don't recommend staying here for the business traveler if you want to be fresh for your meetings...There is no way you will get any sleep! Two days later I still am hearing motorcycles revvvving it up...Thanks Hilton!

Love this hotel!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/18/06
What a refreshing, lovely room! Everything was neat and clean. Service was great and breakfast buffet was wonderful. Love the gift shop and the variety of goods sold - very helpful. Pool was great too. Will definitely recommend to others and stay again!

Was expecting better conditions
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/3/06
I would like to say that the location for our needs during our stay was very good. The staff overall was fine and helpful and the dining staff on the 18th floor was great. I will say that I expected the bathroom to be in better condition. I was shocked to see rust on the ceiling as well as on the light fixtures and other places. There were holes left open in the ceiling where the sprinklers were located. I also expected a hot shower each day, but the only temperature was luke warm to cold. Another suggestion would be to provide brighter lighting, it was rather dark and hard to see unless you were right next to the lamp. Based on the cost and what I had read before reserving the room I expected it to be in better condition. It certainly did not reflect the standard I would expect for the price. I felt the room did not reflect the high cost.

Nice but noisy
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/19/06
The hotel stay was great. The room, staff, lounge were great. The rooftop resturant was not that great. We had the breakfast buffet. Our room was facing 6th street. From midnight to 2am, all we heard was bands from the nightclub by the hotel. Otherwise a nice stay.
