Good place for a Texas Experience
By ,
The stockyards hotel is one of those places you want to experience at least once. My wife and I stayed here for a two night stay in June '07 and back again for a three night stay in July. We chose the stockyards because of the stockyards historic reputation and we wanted a place where my wife could have things to do while I took care of business in the area. There's lots of quaint shops in the stockyards area all with western theme. The white elephant saloon and of course Billy Bobs, are all close. The hotel it self might not please the traveler that is used to Hiltons, Hyatts and the like that have posh amenities but the service the staff provide is as good as it gets any where. Yes, the room are small and hokey and yes the bathroom is small and the water pressure is not great blah, blah, blah but if you can't lighten up and enjoy staying here then you're too hard to please. The bar and restaurant are great and the wireless worked well. All in all, a pretty cool place to stay. My only caution is that all rooms are smoking rooms so if that's an issue, you better stay down the street.

A sentimental favorite-The real Fort Worth
By ,
We were married in the Stockyards Hotel Celebrity Suite in 1989. We have been back for our 8th, 10th, and 13th anniversaries and are planning a party for our 20th. We're not ranchers or tourists, but we have an appreciation of Texas and Fort Worth history and this is the epitome of such. The building is beautiful and the fixtures and woodwork are well preserved. Sure the bathrooms are a bit small but they are clean and the old style gravity tank toilets are so cool! The rustic furniture is not luxuriantly cushy, and cowhide is a dust MAGNET, but the ambiance is worth any inconvenience. The service is great - we've never had any problems. They rearranged the suite for our wedding/reception without extra charge and gave us an extra hour to clear the reception afterwards. When we checked in to the Celebrity Suite for our 10th anniversary and the hot tub was under repair we received comped beverages at the bar to make up for the missed 'entertainment' ;o). I didn't know if the rooms were still all smoking, but HURRAY!!!! It only reflects the spirit of independence and self-determination that defined the old west. The location is the *best*, all the highlights of the stockyards are in walking distance--from the historic White Elephant right across the street to Billy Bob's Texas (a must-see)--just mosey over yonder. Plenty of kitsch souvenir shops as well as upscale shopping transform a daytime stroll to any of the nearby restaurants into an exploration of western wares old and new--almost better than a museum trip. And in the summer, don't forget that a short trip down Main street and a left on 7th will take you to LaGrave field to see the American Association Champion Fort Worth Cats play ball! Why would anyone want to stay in the room and watch TV?!? You want modern plumbing and pay-per-view? Find a Holiday Inn.

Non Smokers beware!
By ,
Stayed during November 2006 as part of a tour from the UK lasting 5 nights. On arrival, staff were very helpful and the reception is quaint in a spittoon and sawdust sort of way. Everywhere looked and probably was old but hey, it is a themed hotel depicting the old west. Unfortunatly, the theme is carried on into the rooms which we found to be very, very dark and our room was not very clean. The bed was hard and the sheets and towels carried on the spittoon and sawdust theme also. The bathroom was very dark and dingy and small and the bathroom door would not close as it was warped. If you want hot water out of the shower, dont try it when everyone elso is getting ready to go out, as you will not get any. Water pressure was virtually nill. Dont stay anywhere near the ice machine either as you will not get any sleep. The worst bit however was the smell of stale tobacco smoke that is ingrained in the carpets, pillows, beds and bed covers, (not the curtains however as there aren't any, only wooden shutters). There is air con and a big rotary fan but as the windows do not open at all there is no chance of airing the room. Asked for a change of room but told that ALL the rooms are smoking and there is not a non-smoking room option!!! Carpets had ciggy burns as did the bed spread. Tried air freshner but it only masked the smell for a short while and then it was back to the essence of old ash trays. Fine if your a heavy smoker or have no sense of smell but if not, avoid, avoid ,avoid. The staff did try to help by changing the sheets and pillow cases but they were in a no win situation as they could not change the bed or carpets which reeked. (Maybe the rooms should have a Government health warning on the door like cigarette packets do here in the UK!) Stayed only one very long night in the end then moved next day to a hotel nearby with non smoking rooms. (bliss!) Could not find anything on the hotel web site that mentions not having any non-smoking accommodation. The resturant does brilliant food and is well worth a visit and the area around the hotel is something you should not miss.

The staff and the valets at this hotel are awesome and if you want a true feel for the stockyards, this is the place to stay. My only complaints were the bed was unbelievably uncomfortable, if you have a bad back avoid it and the shower had -0- water pressure and you were lucky if you had any hot water. Those things said, it was still a great experience.

We liked everything, roon, location, and friendly and competent staff. The resturants in the close area including bars are exceptional, the shopping is unique and amazing, and Billy Bob' around the corner is such a blast...

Can't wait to come back.
By ,
The rooms have a perfect, western ambience. Very Quiet, although there are many rooms. I had to turn on the heat, and the filters were obviously clean. I requested some Advil twice. The desk did not have any, so a valet ran down the street and picked up two for me. Cool huh?

Well worth it !!
By ,
Everything was wonderful...I wanted to celebrate my first anniversary and I knew my wife had always wanted to stay at the Stockyards Hotel. I'd tried going to the hotel's website, but there was so much to choose from so I called them direct and was able to figure out what I wanted. The reservations person was so helpful, I ended up doing the "Escape Package" with wine and breakfast and had a dozen roses delivered. It went perfect...from getting there to leaving the carhops were right there to greet us and show us our room. The front desk had our flowers waiting in the room and delivered the champagne when we got there. The room was really nice, the furniture seemed authentic and rustic. We're definitely going back, the staff and the hotel were a great hit, my wife was surprised thinks its the most memorable thing we've done yet.

Yearly trip for girlfriends
By ,
On my birthday weekend between 6 and 9 of my good friends get together and go somewhere. This year 6 of us went to Fort Worth. We stayed at the Stockyards. The Hotel and the staff are excellent. The beds could be a lot more comfortable for the price they charge and they should be able to hire a cleaning crew that actually CLEANED the rooms. Two of the six are professional housecleaners, and they really examine things closely - Even though on first site, it was pleasant to look at, the furniture had dust thick enough to write in, and the corners had major buildup in the bathroom and the toilets were pretty nasty at the floor level. They also have "goodie" baskets in each room, that are riduculously over priced. It is my opinion, that $1.99 for a Reeses Peanut Butter Candy bar is a bit over the edge. I would think that they should only have those things available if someone ask for them, or via vending machines. If I were to take a child in that setting, I could go broke in a heartbeat, if the child were not very disaplined prior to getting there. The temptation could be overpowering. The Hotel Restuarant had excellent food, and the prices were very compriable to any other place I would normally eat, and the Staff was very attentive. Check in and Check out were a breeze, and they called you by name if and when they saw you, which I really thought was amazing. All in all I would rate this place an overall 3.5 out of 5
