We stayed for two nights and I have nothing to say but good things about our short stay...the night manager and the staff were amazing people and treated us wonderful...and they treated my daughter like a little princess.. worst hotel ever!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/30/09
I stayed at the Omni last week and had the absolute worst experience I have ever had at an hotel. First the reception guy, Chris, I do not think could be any more ruder to a guest. Second we found 3 Security guards sleeping on DUTY!!! We later found out that 3 vehicles were broken into in the parking lot. Then the security guards that were awake harassed my friend, who is black, saying that he wasn't a register guest and that he "didn't belong at this nice hotel!" We then went and showed this racial profiling rent-a-cop my friends name on the room check in sheet and his reply was "Well guest there is a first time for everything!" When we finally got up to our room, our neighbors were smoking marijuana all night and the great security refused to do anything about it. Our room had hot water on and off and the sheets smelled like a 1950's smokey hotel room! And then we get down to the front desk and they have withdrew money from my friends debit card and then stated it was just an "honest mistake!" DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!!

MGMT AWFUL-WIll NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/10/09
I frequent Austin for weekend getaways and chose the Omni for the first time, as I got a great rate on Hotwire. First I will say the rooms were small but nice. The housekeeping was very friendly, as were the bellhops. However, the first night I came back to lobby after a night out with friends. I am in my 30s, and not some college kid cruising in drunk from 6th street. Long story short, a very low class group of girls drunk and looking for a fight were provoking my friends in elevator. As we continued to ignore them, this angered this and I ended up being punched. After filing a police report, she wasnt kicked out of hotel! The mgr and general mgr were RUDE and not accomodating after the girl threatened to finish me off later. THey said I could change hotels at MY expense. So you can get kicked out for noise as policy says at check in, but clock someone in face and you can stay! Mgmt handled POORLY. Also, they put made up charges on our bill. Had to argue that as well. The guests at pool were so trashy like something at a motel 6. NEVER EVER AGAIN would I stay here. Very disappointing stay.

Downtown Austin Omni
By lynn, 02/09/09
This was a very nice hotel. The staff exceeded my expectations...the front desk staff was always cheerful and helpful, I always had the door opened for me and the gentleman that work outside are friendly and fun. The rooms below the 13th floor have been updated. The beds are extremely comfortable and the rooms very nice. The gym is also great. However, the hotel has walls of paper! We could hear every word our neighbors were saying. Also, we stayed facing the street and got to listen to rock bands play all night long! It was extremely loud and I had to wear ear plugs. Other than that, I thought it was a great hotel!

WORST Staff experience
By ericka, 10/15/08
I had my wedding there and the mislead me to believe the pricing and that I was going to get thing included for no charge. The withdrew money from account witih asking. And so many other things that I would not wish for any bride to be.

They secretely take advantage! Watch your bill.
By Conrad, 09/12/08
The OMNI hotel secretly overcharges their customers for "odds and ends". I was charged for lip balm, the person behind me was charged for a movie, another patron was charged for a movie, and another was charged for another "locked cabinet" item. Once I finally had my bill cleared (20 minutes) I was suspicious, but satisfied. Then the credit card bill arrives and there are MORE charges for another $10.70. That may not seem like a big deal, but with a few hundred customers a day, they are really happy owners! Watch you bill! Finally -- no vending machines. No late night snacks unless you walk three blocks past the pan handlers to the mini mart.

This hotel sucks
By Shea, 08/24/08
The staff was very rude to us from the beginning. The area is close to 6th street but thats it. Not a very young crowd and very pretentious. Also the shower didn't drain properly and room service took forever to come. Not worth the expensive price tag.

Not worth it ...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/23/07
Great value, but not quite a luxury retreat! Can not compare to other Omni hotels... stay at the Driskill, Four Seasons or Intercontinental F S Austin hotel.

in need of upgrading
By Radio, 07/07/06
Pros: nice location, stylish lobby and bar; friendly service Cons: noisy - proximity to 6th street leads to lots of street noise filtering in; rooms are poorly soundproofed - we were awoken at 4am both nights by loud neighbors; beds need to be replaced - not very comfy I'm sure the elite Omni executive rooms live up to 4 star quality, but for any other room in this hotel, I would rate it as 2 1/2 stars. Omni needs to decide if it wants to cater to the frat boy/sorority girl customer who use this hotel as a launching pad for 6th street club hopping, or the family/business travelers who want to sleep at 4am in peace.
