not good
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/24/08
They gave us keys that would not open the door. We had this problem with the the key... the three days we were there. (I also heard others complain about the same problem... key not opening the room door). It was not super clean... to put it nicely...just not up to standard! They have a snack bar by the pool which was CLOSED the three days we were there " no chef" they said! We will not stay here again. However, the location was good.

great service
By Yank, 04/03/08
I took my kids to South Padre for xmas....weather was cold for the people of Texas.. but considering we left subzero temps.. we loved it. People at Sunspree were very accomodating...one fellow at the front desk even scrounged up a deck of his own cards for us to play in the lounge one night...pool and hottub were cozy even in the early morning hours. Extra towels were no problem...breakfast was good and Christmas buffet was great! Was probably the last time I will get my kids all in the same place...and I couldnt have asked for better accomodations! Thank you Sunspree!

Childhood dream fullfilled!
By jack, 02/27/08
As a child we went to Padre Island every summer. This was when there was no burger king or hotels or anything on the island. Just a bunch of cars parked here and there and people enjoying the beach. I saw this hotel getting built. For many years I wished we could stay in that hotel instead of the tents we had. Just last week thanks to business travel I got to stay in this hotel. I am old, broke down and wore out...just like this hotel. Everything everyone here has said is probably true, but it's a hotel on the beach. Your not paying for a room or service, your paying for the beach. The elevator was slow, and tiny. Each floor has a mural painted on the elevator area, that was interesting. The fish-tank front desk was interesting too. The poolside bar was nice. When I arrived I was suffering from an upper respiratory infection...so the joy of a child hood dream realized was a little...unsatisfactory. I will stay in this hotel again, hopefully when I feel better and when the weather is more condusive to...bikinis...lol.

Management not helpful
By JamesB, 02/22/08
Booked the room 3 months ahead of time thru YAHOO. Our plans changed and tried to cancel the reservation 6 weeks before arrival. Because of Yahoo's clause that a cancelation would have a $25 to the full cost charge, the manager would not give a refund. Book directly with the hotel, they only had a charge if canceled within 7 days. Holiday Inn Corp Customer service said there was nothing they could or would do. Good luck.

We'd Stay there again!
By TxCin2, 02/21/08
Great view, we had a room overlooking the pool which was truly a beautiful area. Very easy walk to the beach, we were beachside and this hotel is on a great location. Lots for the kids to do during the day too, poolside bar, we spent our honeymoon there and we'd go back. Pets are even allowed if it is not peak season. Our bed was really comfortable for a hotel bed at these prices and we were really pleased. We had a nice sized patio and table with chairs to sit it out there as well. Well decorated rooms and had all the amenities plus.

Loved this hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/07/07
We stayed here during Thanksgiving 2007 so of course it was quiet and inexpensive - $70.00 for ocean view King bedroom. The grounds are very beautiful with a heated pool and one pool not heated and a (noisy) jacuzzi. The room was very nice with fridge and micro and a balcony. (The sliding door would not open because of a build of sand in the rollers but maintenance came right up and fixed it) The room was showing it's age but it was clean and functional. Al the staff was helpful and nice and we really experienced no problems at all. Location is great, too. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone. In warmer months I can imagine the poolside bar and other amenities would be very welcome.

I will be staying here again
By Jeannie, 07/25/07
Not sure why there are more negative reviews than positive ones. My family and I stayed here and had a great stay. The room was clean and the staff was very friendly!! They were not even stingy on towels!!! The price was reasonable too. The breakfast was great and the beach access was so convenient! Loved the poolside bar and loved the location on the island. We will definately be staying there again!!!

Should Remove "Resort" from Name
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/07/07
I typically stay at resorts when I travel. This hotel needs to remove the word "resort" from their name. This hotel is run down and needs a good renovation. In our room there were water stains running down the walls from previous leaks, bathroom light fixtures did not work. There are two very tiny elevators that worked only sporatically. Most of the time we took the stairs because the elevators were not working. We reserved a 5 night stay and on the 4th night they told us that we had to move because they did not have us in the computer for a 5th night. The room we were moved to had a leak in the bathroom ceiling. The staff was extremely rude. Restaurant food was okay but nothing I would recommend. Half the restaurant was closed during our stay due to leaks in the ceiling (our sever said happend everytime it rained). Only good thing about this place was the location...as close to the beach as possible. Pool was also in a good location, with a beach view. Cabana bar, when open, was also nice. This would be an excellent place to stay if they would renovate and give their staff instruction on customer care.
