Not worth the money.
By Betty, 07/08/08
We went to this hotel to see my son off to military basic training. This hotel is supposed to be non-smoking and our room smelled of stale smoke and was musty. They allow smoking in the bar and the patio which overlooked the pool area. We were going to be short on towels so I asked a maid in the hall for extra towels and a blanket. She said "Huh, no English." We then went down and asked the front desk for extra towels and an extra blanket. 3 hours we asked again and was told by the front desk clerk we were on the list of people who “wanted something” and they would get to it "soon." We decided to try eating in at the on-site restaurant. We were seated at placed our order and were served an hour later and we never did get our salads and our food was cold. There were a number of trays on the floor still at 11:30. A girl knocked over the stack of glassware and broke them spilling liquid on the floor. Some of it was still on the floor in the morning when I went to get ice at 5:00 as was the spilled liquid so I picked up the glass and discarded it in a nearby waste basket. I did not clean up the liquid. When we checked out at 7, it was still on the floor. I did not speak with a manager. In all honesty, I was focusing on making my son's last night with his family as uneventful and stress free for him as possible. This is his first time away from home. His friend was equally as nervous and we wanted to make them feel relaxed with nothing to mar their remembrance of the last night home (or in the hotel as it were). While we do understand that the hotel was busy, we felt that it wasn't right. In my lifetime I have watched the Holiday Inn go from one of the best hotels and my personal favorite, to one of the lower class of hotels. My husband and I spent our honeymoon in this hotel and have returned many times in the past 19+ years and each time it slipped a little. We did debate about returning to Holiday Inn but felt that we wanted to spend as much time as we could with the boys so opted to stay there. While I know that each hotel is independently owned and operated the last three trips we have stayed with the chain and each time were disappointed. We are planning a 7 day vacation to Texas in August when our son graduates from Basic Military Training and based upon the reviews in and around San Antonio at other websites, we will not be staying at the Holiday Inn chain.

Disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/05/08
The lobby, pool and restaurant were good, but I was very disappointed in the room. I found bugs in the bathroom, a dead bug in the bed and the overall room condition seemed a bit run down. When I told the front desk about the bugs they did not seem very surprised and did not even offer to switch rooms, or give a discount on the room price. The desk chair was dirty, and we placed a towel down before sitting in it. The beds were hard and very small. The beds were more like an extended single than a double bed. I normally would have changed hotels but after a day of driving I did not have the energy, and since we were there only one night it did not seem worth the effort of carrying our luggage down. After not sleeping very well because the beds were so uncomfortable I wish we would have. The food was very good, the kid's loved the pool, and the service I received when asking for more towels and coffee was good. I would not recommend this hotel to any but the desperate.

Leery but loved it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/23/08
I read the reviews before I left for my buisnes trip and I was worried, but from the time I arrived and left everything was great! I was greeted by a friendly front desk clerk, and got up to my room and it was nice, the bed was very comfortable I was a little bummed that the restaurant was not open but they had full menu at the bar/pub.the bartender was great and the food was the best I have had in a long time! I would definately stay again!

Not Impressed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/25/08
I was not impressed by the hotel at all. The beds were hard as a rock and the room itself didn't look or smell very clean. I noticed the light fixture the last day I was there. It was so dirty it looked as if a nest of some kind was forming in it. It was in a great location convenient to our office building downtown. However, I would much rather stay in further away in a cleaner hotel next time I have to go.

Poor Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/05/07
There is plenty of good stuff to say about this Hotel that you can probably read about in other reviews, but for my stay, this was all negated by the rude and generally unhelpful staff. There were several instances with different members of my party at different times where something was required from the front desk. 9 times out of 10 the person behind the desk would do as little as possible to get you out of their way. I've never experienced anything like this before. This leads me to the conclusion that there are other workplace factors for the employees that are causing their generally bad attitudes and missing sense of customer service. I would recommend staying away from this place. You can find much more pleasant atmospheres for much less money elsewhere.

Good hotel
By B, 09/27/07
I recently returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel for a conference. To the previous reviewer in 01/07: 5 people, 2 beds? That's a bit of a stretch for one room in any hotel! The hotel staff was as close to perfect as you'll find. They met all requests quickly and reliably. The hotel did a solid update but this is not a Four Seasons hotel. My room was brightly and modernly decorated but you could see imperfections. The newer carpet was rolling up in places and the outside balcony window/door needs updating. If you are on the northeast side you will hear the hum of the AC units below and most street noise. The beds and pillows were very comfortable in my opinion. This is a solid hotel with some very nice interior touches for an older Holiday Inn. Downtown SF has it's limits. No Walgreens or similiar grocery close by. Closest Starbucks is 13th/Minn.From the 8th floor facing south I could pick up the free downtown WIFI signal.Falls Park is walkable. You'll need a car to see anything else. Empire Mall is nothing extraordinary.

Horrible Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/10/07
I was in a non-smoking room and it reeked of ciggarettes and some sort of cheap perfume or cologne. Like a Journey song (lol). I tried buying some airfreshener but it only masked the smell. A business associate of mine was two rooms down and she got bit by bed bugs all over her back and legs. She reported it and they moved her to another room. Less than a hour later they sold that same room to someone else. Rooms were not good at all and there was construction all around the hotel which is understandable but still was an inconvience.

Poor quality stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/18/07
The bathrooms were old and tiny with peeling paint, and scuffed up toilets. When someone flushed the toilet in another room, cold water blasted into the shower. For its high cost, the rooms were plain and in dire need of updating. In addition, the hotel overcharged for everything from rooms to food to drinks in the lounge. The staff was a mixed bag, some nice and helpful and some seemed as if they couldn't care less about customer service.

Never again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/01/07
When I made the reservation, I was told the room had two double beds and a sofa-sleeper and would accommodate my family of five. When we checked in, we were told that it only had two double beds but they would get us a roll-a-way. When I called the desk for the extra bed that had not been delivered to the room, I was informed of an additional charge for the roll-a-way. We were very disappointed in the room not meeting our expectations; when we spoke to the desk clerk, he was very unaccommodating and just stated, “that’s the policy”. I did then speak to the manager who was very pleasant and professional. He did accommodate us with a roll-a-way at no additional fee. The room was over priced for a 2-star hotel with hard beds and drafty rooms with ice on the windowsills by morning.

Great service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/23/06
I loved this hotel! The rooms are large and the housekeeping staff is wonderful. I don't think that I have felt so welcome at a hotel before. The front desk was very busy during my stay there but, they always made time for me and my family.
