A mouse in the room.
I had to be on a business trip to Rhode Island for 3 weeks and therefore chose the Hilton Providence Downtown for its great location. During my first week of stay, I spotted a mouse in the room. That sent me jumping on top of the bed screaming hysterically. I sweared i was almost scared to death. I happened to be on the phone with my co-worker and she had to help me call someone from the front desk to come up and get me.
When she told the front desk what happened, the lady at the front desk said that they have been looking for the mouse the whole day. Later on, someone came over and brought me out of the room and the maintenance guy was putting cheese and other mouse trap stuff in the room. When they were finally done about more than an hour later, i came back to the room to pack my belongings and moved to another room. I asked the guy if they found the mouse and they said there was no mouse. But i sweared I saw the mouse running around in my room. I would have fled the place had my co-workers not insist on staying in a hilton hotel for points.
The reason why i am writing this is because i have always viewed Hilton to be a better brand compared to Marriott. As a frequent traveller, I have stayed in hotels all over the country and this is the first time I have a mouse in my room and a plain denial. On top of that, I wasnt given a reasonable explanation. During the 3 weeks i was staying in the hotel, I constantly couldnt fall asleep as I kept dreaming of the hotel room filled with mice. It has been a really bad experience for me and i am really surprised that no one has even called me to explain the matter and just let it go for the ordeal that i suffered. I would think that such an accident would require an apology to any guest let alone a Hilton Honors member. On top of that, most of the front desk personnel were rude and difficult to talk to. This has definitely deducted many points off my impression of the Hilton brand. I would definitely think twice about staying in that hotel again the next time I travel to Rhode Island.
