Great Hotel!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/2/11
I thought this was a fantastic hotel! I stayed here for a week with my family while visiting Philly and this was a great choice. The staff were really helpful and had no problem telling us the best places to go in Philly. The beds were amazing and the rooms were clean. The only problem was that the fire alarm went off 3 times in one night! Once at 9, then 11 and even 1! But the manager made up for it by giving us free passes to the buffet :) I most definitely will be coming back here!

Will be back with learned tricks!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/14/11
Ok so I know that their are a ton of negative reviews of this hotel out there and really I'm not sure why. I read them before I went and it sounded like a bunch of people whose expectations were equivalent to the Westin in NYC (a $500/night place) and yes I have stayed there as well. Truth be told, we had a great time and paid an absolutely fantastic price, so much so that instead of just being a Marriott rewards member we are now Starwood members too. Here's what you need to know; 1. the parking is either self-park or valet, the difference in price is like $4.00 and still comes up to almost $40 per 24-hour period...TRICK: their is a parking garage literally across the street (if you've just pulled into the hotel, you could drive right out the driveway and smack right into this garage its so close, right on 16th st.)- best part is, it's $5 yes FIVE dollars to park any day after 5pm AND its $15 or less to park any day before 5pm for a complete 24-hours...2. Breakfast, if you are not upset about walking 1-2 blocks in either direction from the hotel then I would highly suggest doing so. Breakfast in the hotel is fine but it is almost $20 per person. You can have a superb meal for $25 for 2 people at any of the area restaurants. So, in a nut shell... this hotel is perfectly fine, it is in a good location (walking distance to attractions, many restaurants, etc), hotel bar is open every night until at least 11pm and very open and comfortable, bed was perfectly comfortable. If you want something like a downtown NYC hotel then be willing to pay top dollar and stay at the St. Regis or the Ritz-Carlton but if you want a very good comfortable (for all GLBT, racially diverse, all included) hotel for an outstanding price then just follow my 2 tricks and you'll be on your way to a great stay!

Great for the money
By Alexis, 5/29/08
My friends and I only needed the room for one night for a night on the town in Philly. The location is pretty far from everything. unless you are prepared for a hike through the city, you have to take a cab to night spots and shopping. After calling for room service and front desk 3 times with no answer, someone finally picked up on the fourth try after 5 or so rings. I loved the decor and modern "theme" of the colors. For all the upgrades, I was surprised the see an older television set. Big disappointment that there was no DVD player. The carpet in the room felt a bit "grimy" beneath my feet. The bed was absolutely warm, comfy and cozy!

Just satifactory (nothing more, might be less)
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/19/07
Although it isn't the dirtiest hotel I could think of, it definitely could have paid better attention to its upkeep. The carpets were dirty (my room had distinct black marks as if somebody wiped their mud-soaked shoes on it, and the navy blue-carpet of the hallways made the dirt very visible to the guests). My bathroom was pretty clean, but I did find that an extra hair-dryer on the counter was enveloped in oily muck, which was quite disgusting. I ordered room service about 4 times and found that I had no spoon for my dessert and no knife for my toast and butter, BUT I did have a BUTTER KNIFE for my steak. On my last day, I placed a breakfast order on one of those door-tags so that I can immediately eat at 6:30 am without having to wake up 45 minutes early just to place the order. It was my fault for forgetting to check off the time I wanted it delivered, but I found that the hotel didn't care to let me know either that I forgot. I called at 8:00 am to see what happened and that's when they decided to tell me, "Well, you didn't check off a time." All in all, I can't completely say that my stay was dismal, but there were a lot of inconveniences to make me not want to come back if I didn't have to. Also, be careful not to order the WiFi internet. If you must, you might as well go straight to the ethernet cable since their wireless seem to have weak spots. At $318 a night, I wasn't very happy. NOTE: Their elevators are veeery slow (and old).

Dirty
By Jamila, 10/1/07
The hotel room was not clean. We didn't have any soap, shampoo, or lotion until we asked. Then the sink drain wouldn't open. There was a bug on the door and hair in the shower. The electrical outlet didn't work, so we had to move the coffee maker in order to use it and do without the lamp. There were stains inside the toilet and stains on the bedspread. We waited and waited for a new room, but never got a call, we were so disgusted we left soon after we came.

all you need.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/3/07
my girlfriend and i recently stayed here while checking out the king tut exhibit. the hotel offered us a one night stay with 2 VIP tickets to the exhibition for $229.95. the hotel was about 3 blocks from the museum which was very convenient. parking was easy, but expensive ($25/day). check-in was quick and flawless and the front desk person was very courteous. my girlfriend and i were given a smoking room (like we asked) on the 23rd floor. we open the door to our small, but cozy room which had a beautiful view of philadelphia. the room was well appointed and had a nice modern photograph on the wall instead of the common re-production of some cheap oil painting. i haven't stayed in a hotel recently, so i don't know the prices of amenities, but $4.95 for a 1 liter bottle of water seemed absurd, as did the $15 to rent a movie (not to mention the room service & breakfast prices). i ended up having to open the bottle of water water because of the god awful taste of the lukewarm tap water. housekeeping knocked on our door at 9 am which was a little unexpected, and pretty unpleasant as i scurried to the door to tell her to come back later before she keyed her way in. an itemized bill and a USA today paper lay in front of my door. check out was even quicker than check in, and we were soon on our way out after a nice 24 hours in philly. i must say that wherever we went in the hotel, the staff always greeted us with a smile and a 'hello.' pros: nice atmosphere, friendly staff, perfect for short trips cons: expensive amenities, small rooms, tap water (bring your own bottled water!)

Very pleasant staff
By Maurice, 6/12/07
We stayed at the Sheraton Philadelphia City Center for a church convention that was convening in the hotel ballroom. This was our first visit to Philly. The staff was wonderful and pleasant. We stayed on the 18th floor and had wonderful views of the city. My only complaint was that there was no refrigerator or microwave in the room. Other than that, I had a very pleasant stay.

Unfriendly staff and no amenities
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/22/07
Staff was very unfriendly. They thought they were obliging us by helping us check in. One of them raised her voice when I asked her the way to the elevator. She made me realize that I was unwanted, when I was booked for 10 nights. The rooms were badly lit and I had no room service for the first two days. Had to call the reception and confirm. They changed my towels only after that. The coffee maker had fungus in it. No one apologized for it and all they did was replace it. Internet is charged at $10.00/day and water at $5.00 a bottle. preety crazy. The breakfast is expensive and I rather chose to walk down a few blocks to get a good breakfast. The only good thing about the hotel is the vast lobby. I feel they need to work a lot on their customer service and spruce up their facilities to get customers. Marriott, a few blocks away is a fantastic place and I had no qualms paying a few dollars extra to stay there the next time I visited Philly.

Wouldn't stay there again for that price
By CassandraA, 4/26/07
If you plan to stay here, be prepared to pay $25 per night to park your vehicle in the hotel parking garage. Also, don't expect any more than 9 channels on the television in your room. Couple those things with the $10 per night internet connection, and you've got an overpriced stay at a mediocre hotel that's just making money on its location. We disliked the restaurant in the lobby. The service was awful and the food prices were obscene. The swimming pool had a 15 person capacity. What a let down for such a huge hotel with 26 floors. Plus, there was no jacuzzi or hot tub! Overall, our stay was good, though. The hotel staff was very friendly and our room four walls and a ceiling. I cannot, however, recommend this hotel to anyone, as this is the worst Sheraton I've ever stayed at.
