not coming back
By marie b, 11/06/09
As soon as you come in the hotel, the old musty smell will hit you. More once you get to your floor and your room. Skip the breakfast buffet. They charge 10.95 per person but they were not clear that coffee and juice is not included. It ended up $20 per person when we paid our bill. Just go over to Hilton for breakfast buffet 11.95 per person including coffee and juice. Or better yet, one of our relatives said that there's a small quaint breakfast place few blocks away for $5.95 pancake breakfast. The front desk staff seems to lack customer service ability. Left something in our room and i called them immediately. I was told they will call me back once they found it. After 4 hours i have to be the one to call them back. Told them to just mail it to me using my own UPS account #, after 4 days i called to follow-up and they said they have not mailed it as they were waiting for my credit card. duh! that's why i gave a UPS#. overall experience... not good :-(

I frequently stay here and love it
By Bryan, 10/31/09
I stay at this hotel almost every week on business travel. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I would agree that the rooms are tired, but overall the hotel is beautiful. Since it was converted into a hotel, some of the rooms are oddly located with strange layouts. As a frequent guest this keeps my visits interesting. I've also stayed at the Hilton across the street. The rooms are more modern but all the rooms are exactly the same. The staff there aren't as friendly as well.

Fantastic service, gorgeous facility
By Mr. Adventure, 07/13/09
Stayed for two nights in July, 2009. The hotel exterior and public spaces are beautiful beyond words. The service, from the administrator who took us on a personal, hour-long tour of the facility, to the doorman, to the front desk staff, to the housekeepers, were all phenomenal. The room was spacious and very comfortable, and although a little worn, for the very reasonable price we paid, this did not affect our perception of excellent value. Our meals and the waitstaff at Trax were very good. The hotel's amenities and location within walking distance of many museums, shopping as well as the business district and the courthouse make it very appropriate for adult tourists as well as business travelers, although I would caution that there are very few amenities for children at the hotel, and families with children would probably be better served elsewhere. All in all, I give this hotel my highest possible recommendation.

We will never be back...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/16/09
While the location of the hotel is prime for Scranton University families visiting their students and the exterior of the hotel is gorgeous the staff leaves much to be desired. We had a terrible experience with Melissa at the front desk (unhelpful, rude, lazy). I waited two weeks to "cool off" before complaining about the service... it has been three weeks since my first call (I spoke with Bianca) and I am still waiting to hear back from the hotel manager with regard to my complaints. Be aware - the staff is terrible!!

Fabulous Hotel - one for the history books
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/07/09
Historic with nostalgia everywhere. Spacious rooms, great service, friendly staff. Did not eat there (preferring the food at The Banshee), but would definitely go back if ever my work called me to Scranton again. Mr. Ogelvie Vesper Crag Travel

Great Place to Stay!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/16/08
This is a great place to stay, great staff, beautiful hotel. The bathrooms could be a little more updated but overall it is a great place. We always stay in the same room and have a cozy breakfast on Sunday mornings! We go back again and again. I drive two hours to stay there and my boyfriend drives three, we have deemed it our spot,,,

Worst Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/22/08
The room was dirty, cold marble floor. The beds were very uncomfortable sleep number beds that must have had holes becasue we had to keep inflating throughout the night. Stayed in a "suite" questionable at best. Overall, I woudl never stay there again nor recommned it to anyone. Plus Scranton is a dump of a town that has seen better days. Recommned that you stay far away from both. We had to walk down the street to the Marriott for meals and morning coffee, stay there instead!

Very Disappointed
By kll, 03/24/08
The hotel was beautiful from the outside, lobby very pretty. Doorman lazy, did not help us (2 ladies) with the doors or our luggage. Front desk people very nice, but reservation not correct. Had called twice ahead and verified reservation and when we arrived the room had to be changed. We were put in a room with no windows, dark, and couldn't even open the curtains to the balcony, if we did you could see straight through the room, anyone that was walking up and down the hallways. The room was small and very dark, even with all the lights on. Room service was good, people very nice, food expense for what you got. No I wouldn't stay there again.

Most Accomodating, Caring Staff in U.S. !
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/06/08
Booked 2 yrs. ago for a conference at a nearby location, I had SEVERE podiatric problem. Requested in advance, staff had room m very amiable to my needs, most accessible to shuttle, and pointed out spot closest to room for me to put my car. Didn't get to try food, however did use tavern, w/ special guest.(However, my family always ate there when visiting my father @ nursing home). Bartendress was upbeat, happy to help, and prices fine. Anything I needed I clearly only had to ask. Great atmosphere, and great room! Carl W. Coleman, Allentown, Pa.
