Beautiful location; cabins pretty grungy
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/29/08
While the area is beautiful, the condition of the cabins is sad. The woodwork was filthy dirty, windows were dirty thus negating the potential view of the lake, spider webs and bugs were on the window sills, and the smell of cigarette smoke permiated the pillows and bed spreads. One member of our group found dirty underpants in her room. Service in the dining room was outstanding. With the exception of the night clerk who checked us in, customer service must be a foreign language to the people at the front desk. They were unreasonable, rude, and confrontive when I questioned my room rate this year vs how it had been calculated for the past 15 years, and in the end, there was still a mistake on my bill. This used to be one of my favorite places to go, but I probably will not return. I definitely won't recommend Western Hills to anyone at this time.

Great weekend getaway
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/18/08
Went there with the family for a weekend escape. The lodge is older but well-maintained. We stayed in one of the cottages, which were quite comfortable. The restaurant is surprisingly good; we ate there for breakfast (great deal on the buffet) and dinner. The staff in the lodge is extremely friendly and attentive. The real star, however, is the park. There's so much to do -- horseback riding, golf, swimming (though it was still a little too chilly for that when we went). I took my laptop, but there's no internet in the rooms, you have to take it down to their conference area. I remember coming here as a kid and they had frisbee golf on the point. It's gone, replaced with horseshoe pits. A shame, I think. Overall, a great place to stay at a great price.

Not bad!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/05/07
I was concerned when I saw a previous review that was very negative, but we did not have that experience. The place is seriously outdated, but it was cleaner than many of the chain hotels we've stayed. The linens and towels were very clean. The bathroom was clean, too. The carpet and curtains probably should be replaced soon, as well as the furniture, but for a state funded entity they seem to be doing the best with that they've got. The restaurant was very reasonable and the food was quite acceptable. Don't go here expecting luxury accomodations, but it wasn't all that bad. We stayed in a cabin so I cannot review a room in the lodge.

To the folks at Western Hills
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/08/07
I just wanted to say thanks to you on my behalf and that of my family. I’m so glad my niece selected your facility and meeting place for our recent reunion. She made a good choice. The wheel chair you had available was a lifesaver for me so that I could get my husband around the campus more easily. The food in your restaurant was very good quality and reasonably priced. The kids, big & small, all loved the pool. All of your help was pleasant in attitude and very helpful. Again thanks so much for your hospitality.

This Place is Great!
By Renea, 07/28/07
I'm not sure where the last person stayed but we just came home from visiting my sister and the kids can't stop asking when we are going back to Oklahoma. Thanks sister for treating us to such a great resort Tyler loved the pool and Nature Center and Taylor so enjoyed the Stables. The Hotel was clean, the food was good, and the view is spectacular no matter which way you look. Can't wait to go back to Westen Hills and Oklahoma next summer.

What a Dump!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/24/07
We just returned from a family reunion held at Western Hills. This was our 3rd trip, having loved our first 2 visits, and we were incredibly disappointed. I cannot even describe how badly this place has deteriorated. These are dirtiest, most rundown hotel rooms I've ever stayed in. Raw sewage on the wallpaper behind the toilet says it all. Stained, dirty carpets. Gum, cigarette butts and beer bottles on our patio upon check-in. Peeling wallpaper. Our meeting room hadn't been cleaned or swept in what had to be years. Dead bugs. Curtains dangling from one corner. Windows so filthy you couldn't see out. The State of Oklahoma should be ashamed for letting this beautiful natural asset deteriorate.

What a cool place
By Aly, 07/05/06
We visited WHGR for a family reunion last weekend and had SUCH a good time. It was worth the 13 hour drive from MI. You don't find places like this anymore. Value was great. Comfortable beds, great pool, LOTS of stuff to do for all ages. I only wish we could have stayed for more than the weekend.

Great Place at a Great Price
By G3, 11/26/05
This is a GREAT place to stay in Eastern OK. The lodge has a good restaurant with friendly people and good food. It is an excellent place for family gatherings and to just get away from it all. The prices are unbeatable The only downside from my point of view is no internet connection.

This place is the bomb!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/13/05
I've been going here all my life because I live close by. It has LOTS of stuff to do: sailing, hiking, biking, swimming, golfing, horseback riding, hayrides, and more! I'm a volunteer at the Nature Center, and the animals are fun to play with. It's in the wilderness, and that's another thing that makes it cool! I hope you decide to go there for family vacation! ~Written by Olivia, look foor me at their Nature Center! I'll have a shirt labled Olivia!
