Afraid of FIRE? Don't stay here!
Asked for a room on first floor. Told-even before being asked if we smoked-that there would be a $100.00 fine added to our bill if we smoked in the room.
Lamps on either side of the bed did not work even when we tried moving a working bulb to those fixtures. We then noticed the clock did not work. We did not make a complaint about this.
I plugged in the coffee maker after adding the water, etc., and the outlet caught fire. I immediately notified the front desk-at which point I was accused of smoking in the room. When manager finally inspected the outlet and smelled the burned plastic, he said he would look into it 'tomorrow'. He offered us no other accomadations. After 15 minutes, the odor became stronger so we called the fire department.
When confronted with the fire department, the manager said he would move us to another room but changed his mind from the sink to the door and told the fire captain he would
check us out because they were all 'booked'.
Ours was only one of 2 in the entire motel-and this was 9 p.m.
We were given a refund but during the transaction the clerk told the other tennant 'They plugged the coffee pot in wrong'.
For those familiar with 3 prong electrical cords, the impossibility of this is obvious.
The rate was exceptional (33.95 with a travel coupon available on the highway)but no amount of savings is worth one's life. We spent $74.00 at the Best Western in Edmund, Ok. And it was money WELL spent.
