i stayed at this hotel last night and knew as soon as i drove through the weed-riddled parking lot and approached the main entrance that i wouldn't be happy with my stay. there was grime all over the front windows and the doors were propped open, emitting a musty, old smoke odor. the lobby itself was spacious, but reminded me of a dingy mental institution.
i then went to my room which was on the other side of the hotel. i had to drive my car around to get there. i removed my luggage from the car and proceeded to my room through the unlocked side door. again, the musty odor hit me first. i then noticed the carpet that hadn't been swept in a while, rips in the wall paper, just filthy. i opened the door to my room and was even more disappointed. my room smelled like smoke, pets, and a blueberry air freshener that probably had been sprayed to cover up the previously referenced nastiness. the room was kind of clean except for the bathroom, whose tiled ceiling and shower curtain was molded and mirror looked greasy.
after seeing this i moved immediately to the bed to check the linens...everything seemed fine. nevertheless, i drove a few exits off I-75 away to a walmart and bought lysol and sprayed the bed and bathroom down generously, just to be sure.
at one point in the evening i was walking down the hall to find the front desk and an iron, when i came upon a defunct ice machine in the hallway and heard the sound of running water. confused, i scanned my surroundings to see a perfectly round hole cut out of the carpeted hallway down which two small plastic pipes were gushing water. out in the open...uncovered. i saw that and quickly returned to my room. is this an issue for the health department?
why didn't i leave? i ordered it from priceline and couldn't get a refund...and i was there on the company dime and didn't know if i'd get reimbursed for a second room elsewhere.
other than the general lack of cleanliness, my other big issue with this hotel is safety. it's literally in the middle of nowhere. the parking lot and hallways inside are poorly lit and the side entrances are not locked nor are equipped with security measures to allow entrance for guests only. even the wireless network is unprotected, allowing just about anyone to hack a visitor's computer. overall, its just plain creepy.
the staff, who was one guy who checked me in at 7pm and then checked me out this morning at 7:30am, was very nice.
it's cheap. nevertheless, UGH. don't do it.
