Good experience witha budget hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/30/11
I have stayed at the Americas Best Value Inn in Lima Ohio for a year and feel I must express my opinion about some of the reviews here. Yes the Hotel is older and could use some updating. As far as being there being a musty smell in the halls I have never noticed that but can smell the chlorine from the pool. The carpet in the halls that doesn’t get vacuumed does but when you have 30 plus guys that do tree trimming and work in shops that stay there five to seven days a week and drag mud and grime in the hotel every day good luck keeping up on that. If you can’t get your money back because you are unhappy and paid a third party for the room, don’t deal with them next time and take it as a lesson learned. The hotel is off in the middle of nowhere in the country at an exit, only five minutes to one of the main strips in Lima. Yes the side doors are not locked; I have never felt unsafe one time. My room did smell like smoke, I got a smoking room and it smelled like smoke just like all the other smoking rooms I have stayed in which includes a Comfort Inn. The parking lot does need repaving I cannot argue that point. I am leaving a 3 instead of a 4 for cleanliness due to the hotel needing updates. I have traveled in Canada and the U.S. doing service in shops and have stayed in some bad places. I left thousands of dollars in computers and tools in the hotel room and never felt uncomfortable doing so. I did have a few issues over the year I spent staying at the hotel, all I had to do was go down and talk to Kenny or Mike and give them a little time to rectify the problem and they always did. I love the location being out of the city of Lima but only being 15 minutes to downtown and 5 minutes to a main strip with shopping and restaurants. North of the hotel is Bluffton a small farming town with restaurants and a grocery store. The prices are reasonable, they do offer weekly rates and I took the cheapest room possible, I was also supplied with a microwave and a stuffed chair with an ottoman. I stayed 12 days at the hotel and then 2 days at home, showed up the one Sunday and the hard back desk chair had been replaced with a more comfortable computer chair. I have found through my travels to talk to them, treat them like a person and they will work with you, I bounced motels for two months and then stayed at the Americas Best Value in Lima for a year. I cannot comment on all of the rooms, the management always put me back in the same room every time I came back. I kept coming back for a year if that says anything.

NASTY!!!
By JOHN C, 11/2/11
I did not like anything about this place. Disliked everything about this place! My husband pre-registered online, We checked in and within 15 min we checked out. Lost all our money, the person at the desk said we would have to check with the online company to get our refund (my husband thought he was dealing with the hotel direct when he pre-registered, not so). We called 3 different times and they kept saying the hotel was responsible. In the end we lost our money. The lobby had water damage, the room was very nasty, holes in the wall of the room, the bathroom had not been cleaned, plaster was fall off the walls, dust was an inch or more thick on everything and the oder in the room and halls was mold infested. I would not have let my dog (it is an outside dog!) stay there. I am not sure how the place passes any inspection from the Health Department. Being cheap does not mean you can be nasty and dirty!

totally disgusting. bates motel meets children of the corn. rest easy somewhere else.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/28/08
i stayed at this hotel last night and knew as soon as i drove through the weed-riddled parking lot and approached the main entrance that i wouldn't be happy with my stay. there was grime all over the front windows and the doors were propped open, emitting a musty, old smoke odor. the lobby itself was spacious, but reminded me of a dingy mental institution. i then went to my room which was on the other side of the hotel. i had to drive my car around to get there. i removed my luggage from the car and proceeded to my room through the unlocked side door. again, the musty odor hit me first. i then noticed the carpet that hadn't been swept in a while, rips in the wall paper, just filthy. i opened the door to my room and was even more disappointed. my room smelled like smoke, pets, and a blueberry air freshener that probably had been sprayed to cover up the previously referenced nastiness. the room was kind of clean except for the bathroom, whose tiled ceiling and shower curtain was molded and mirror looked greasy. after seeing this i moved immediately to the bed to check the linens...everything seemed fine. nevertheless, i drove a few exits off I-75 away to a walmart and bought lysol and sprayed the bed and bathroom down generously, just to be sure. at one point in the evening i was walking down the hall to find the front desk and an iron, when i came upon a defunct ice machine in the hallway and heard the sound of running water. confused, i scanned my surroundings to see a perfectly round hole cut out of the carpeted hallway down which two small plastic pipes were gushing water. out in the open...uncovered. i saw that and quickly returned to my room. is this an issue for the health department? why didn't i leave? i ordered it from priceline and couldn't get a refund...and i was there on the company dime and didn't know if i'd get reimbursed for a second room elsewhere. other than the general lack of cleanliness, my other big issue with this hotel is safety. it's literally in the middle of nowhere. the parking lot and hallways inside are poorly lit and the side entrances are not locked nor are equipped with security measures to allow entrance for guests only. even the wireless network is unprotected, allowing just about anyone to hack a visitor's computer. overall, its just plain creepy. the staff, who was one guy who checked me in at 7pm and then checked me out this morning at 7:30am, was very nice. it's cheap. nevertheless, UGH. don't do it.

A great place to be all around
By Davidrn3301, 2/2/08
I am a traveling nurse and found America's Best Value Inn through Yahoo. I have to admit that I was a bit leary when I read some of the reviews. Well, they were quickly despelled. THIS IS A GREAT PLACE! The staff ALL go the extra mile to make sure I have what I need. Very friendly and accomodating. The rooms are very large for a hotel in this price range and clean. Microwaves and refrigerators are at the ready upon request. The hotel is slightly back from the road. This means it is quiet. I work nights and have only been disturbed once around the Holidays. Comparred to other hotels I have been in, this is a welcomed change! If you are going to Lima, or the surrounding areas, save yourself the time and trouble of looking for a great value at a great price and stay at the America's Best Value Inn!!!

We'll stay here again!
By traveldox, 7/9/07
Stayed here two nights in July 07, and found it VERY comfortable. Rooms were clean, well-appointed. We asked for, and promptly received, refrigerator, microwave, iron and board, extra towels. Extremely accommodating staff at desk and in housekeeping. This is a pet-friendly property where, sadly, some guests have abused the privilege. We suggested ways to deal with that if inconsiderate guests are there for dog shows, as we were. Did not have a chance to visit the restaurant. Pool looked nice but lacked time and energy to take a dip. Parking lot needs repaving.

i don't know where these other reviewers stayed
By nicole, 6/4/07
I stayed at the Best value inn in Lima Oh on 6-1-07 and i thought it was real nice for the amount of money I spent. They did not have a continental breakfast but the resturaunt more than made up for it. My room was clean the staff were excellent the pool was awsome. They have a neat mural painted in the lobby as well as a fire place and big screen t.v. this place was nice really. I asked about the bad reviews on here and they said they had no clue why they were here. so just to let everyone know i had a great time.

best hotel for the price
By nicole, 5/1/07
i visited this hotel for the weekend with my family, it was very nice, this time i had stayed before a couple years ago and it wasnt so nice. But there has been alot of changes and the place was clean and it had new furniture also there was no mold, the swimming pool was great it was real deep at one end so people can actually swim in it. the only thing that was the same about this stay than the last time was the friendly staff and the price. great place to stay take the kids and have a good time. P.s the new bar and grill was a nice relaxed atmosphere.

Avoid at all costs
By NicoleM, 10/5/06
My first sign that this hotel was not a good pick was that as I pulled into the parking lot of the hotel, a police cruiser was leaving and there was another one at the hotel enterance. The parking lot was a disaster and had not been maintained or repaired in quite some time. The lobby wasn't too bad and the man that checked me in was very friendly. There was a sign that said they were remodeling just as another reviewer commented. The lights in the interior hallways were dim and the hallways were unswept and dirty. The room was eh. The bathroom floor was dirty, there were dead bugs under the sink and the shower curtain had mold on it. The wallpaper, knobs and other room fixtures were in bad shape. The indoor pool area was also dirty and the pool hadn't been cleaned in a while. There was stuff floating on top of the water as well as black stuff on the bottom of the pool. There wasn't not a breakfast. I travel 25 weeks out of the year and for the price I paid for the hotel ($64.00 after tax), I was very disappointed and disgusted. You can tell that the hotel was nice at one point but there has been no upkeep. I was told by some locals that it was not a good place to be. I will be back in that area again but will not return to this place ever again.

It's a mystery to me
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/1/05
What this hotel lacks in cleanliness, style and comfort it makes up with its friendly staff. They say they're in the midst of remodeling, but the tubs are old with black caulking, doorknobs on bathrooms don't work and therefore bathroom doors don't close. The carpeting was stained and the toilet seat showed signs of wear. The paper was peeling, it was just not a good scene. The hotel left the exterior side doors open all night; that was frightening to say the least. Once they clean up their facility, they might move to a three star if they keep the same dedicated and friendly staff
