Not impressed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/12/11
Our son was having surgery at Duke Eye Center and the location is perfect.  They offered the best medical rate, so we took it.  First impression coming lobby it nice, check it was great.  They even gave us a little doll for our 4th old son. Got to room, it smelled, but wasn't enough to leave. Mildew in the shower was a bit off putting, mildew was not visable for out of the shower, but when I stepped in, I could see it all along the transitions sections of the shower shell. Internet is not included, but free in lobby.  I went down with my tablet to search some pizza delivery services and could not get connected.  They have an area with computers in the lobby, so i just chose to use the Internet there.  Out of the 3 computers only 2 were working and both of them had private login.  I looked around for instructions or login/password and couldn't find any. So I went to the front desk.  Waited in line behind 2 families checking in, after sometime it was MY turn. I asked first about the Wi-fi in the lobby and the gentalman was completely annoyed by me.  he said it works it must be your computer and then looked pass my shoulder for the next person in line.  I said, okay, I'm not done, I'm trying to get on the Internet, that room over there with computers is a courtesy service, isn't it? He (still looking annoyed) said yes.  I said okay I like to use them.  He said you just go in there and use them., again looking past my shoulder to the next person, this time inviting them over.  Now they have walked up to the counter as well standing next to me.  I continued to explain that I was in there none of the computer work with out a login/password.  I told him i even tried to restart the computers. He them told me the login and password.  I had to write it down.  I felt completely irritated by his service.  But was able to get logged on correctly about an hour after I left my room. My husband thought I just left to go get the pizza.   A month and half after that stay, we have had to return for more surgeries. We actually chose to stay that the Millennium again solely b/c of the location and cheep rate (even though we both were not impresses with the place).  But When i called, our luck would have it, they are booked up on the night we need to stay in town.  So this evening we are staying at the Brookwood inn for a few more bucks.  (they too have a medical rate)  Funny thing, my husband and I feel much better about this place. It's not as fancy in the lobby, but it's nice.  We are on the 8th floor and our son likes the view.  Our room, including our shower is spotless and the room does not smell.  The room is a little smaller and we don't have double sinks like we did at the millennium.  we do have a frig and microwave here at Brookwood, which we did not have at the millennium.  We also have free Wi-fi, but it's a little slow.  I'm so glad the millennium was booked up, b/c we will return to Brookwood if we need to stay again.

Good Value
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/29/09
I liked the fact that I could get a full service hotel for the price that I paid. I am not always comfortable being in the smaller hotels, plus I like being able to order Room Service and eat in the room rather than sit in the restaurant or bar alone. I enjoyed my stay and the staff were very friendly, especially the maid that cleaned my room. This hotel was recommended by the folks over at Duke Hospital and it is very convenient with the shuttle service that they provide. It makes it a lot easier not having to worry about finding a place to park and walking a long distance to get to the hospital.

Very convenient to Duke Medical Center
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/28/09
We needed to find a room to stay overnight for an appointment over at Duke Hospital. The hotel was very close by and even though we were not familiar with Millennium we decided to stay there. The room was big and the beds are very nice. The shuttle service to and from the hospital was a big plus! The drivers were all friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay there on future visits.

More than I thought...
By Puddin Tame, 4/27/09
This hotel, though showing it's age was definitely comfortable and convenient to Duke Medical Center. The look is that of a lodge and there is a bit of a walk from the check-in area to get to where the rooms are but once you know where the room is you can park closer to a different entrance which will cut down on the walk. The rooms are nice and large and the beds are very comfortable and seem to be realtively new. The other furnishings in the room though need to be updated. Overall we had a good stay and the workers were very friendly.

Great Location to Duke Hospital
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/21/09
Suprisingly large rooms compared to other hotels that I've stayed in before. The staff was very accommodating and the shuttle transportation to the hospital was very convenient.

DISGUSTING
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/16/09
1) Asking questions of people directly at the hotel: they huff and puff and seem annoyed to answer. 2) When you decide to make a reservation, you are put 'on hold' where the phone rings, and rings, and rings with no one to answer. 3) IF/when you finally get to speak with someone, it was NEVER with a local person. 4) But when you need to verify room reservations for medical needs, you are told to call the hotel directly. 5) When you call hotel directly, the whole process starts again. 6) When you finally THINK you have gotten to someone who is helping you make a guaranteed reservation, you show up at the hotel and DO NOT have the room you were promised. 7) They try placing FOUR people in a room with ONE BED! (oh, but they'll give you a roll away?!) 8) Walking down the hallway, the place SMELLS like the bottom of an ashtray. 9) When you get outside that room, exhausted and pissed, discarded meals are sitting outside your door. 10) You enter room anyway, and something even WORSE SMELLING is in there...to the point you feel like throwing up (smells like something DIED in there!) 11) When you go all the way back down to the counter and REFUSE that room, all of a sudden a room with TWO beds pops up?! 12) You agree to take that room, despite a LACK OF INTERNET SERVICE you were supposedly guaranteed, and hobble on crutches back to that room now. 13) You get to that room, and despite the need for NON-SMOKING for MEDICAL NEEDS, and the room saying "non-smoking", it also smells like the bottom of an ashtray. 14) To top it off: the SHEETS ARE STAINED, THERE ARE BUGS ON THEM, THE BATHTUB WAS GROSS WITH MARKS, THE LAMP SHADE WAS TORN, THE CHAIR CREAKED AS YOU SIT IN IT AND SOUNDED LIKE IT WOULD BREAK, YOU TURN AROUND TO GET UP AND SEE IT IS FILTHY, SOMETHING DEAD STARTS SMELLING, YOU HAVE TO OPEN UP THE WINDOW JUST TO BE ABLE TO BREATHE...AND THEN... 14) Your asthmatic child starts to be unable to breathe. 15) You MUST leave that hotel. 16) Hotel staff don't seem to even CARE or try to help the situation. 16) You get back outside and everyone is all stuffed up. 16) You leave and find another local hotel that doesn't smell like something died in it, has internet in ALL rooms, isn't smokey, and is only a little bit more in cost...BUT YOU'LL HAVE CLEAN, COMFORTABLE BEDS AND YOU CAN BREATHE! 17) Ahhhh....you are offered a $10 extra a night deal at other hotel that covers 2 FREE meals a day for ALL members of your party (4). That makes this new hotel LESS cost, MORE comfortable, and a better deal ALL the way around. 18) Would NEVER, EVER, NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone...ESPECIALLY anyone with medical needs and upcoming surgery at Duke!!! (oh, by the way, the view outside the window we had to open to breathe was of the freeway ramp)

Wasn't What I Expected!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/10/09
Recently on a business trip, I was booked to stay at the Millennum Hotel and thought it would be a good idea to check it out and read the reviews before making the trip. Well, to say the least, after reading the reviews I was ready to forego the arrangements made and fork out my own money to stay elsewhere but figured I would check it out in person before doing so. I'm glad I did. It wasn't what I expected. I was pleasantly surprised and relieved. The rooms were clean, all of the staff friendly, helpful, and courteous. I used the shuttle daily for business, my wife daily on her shopping excursions, excellent service. Several nights we dined in the Bel Gusto (Hotel Restaurant) and was served with great food and smiles each night. Trying to recall a negative of our week's stay was hard but there was a minor one with our cell phone reception in certain areas of the hotel. A minor flaw that could happen anywhere. If you happen to stay here, I hope your experience was as good as ours.

Decent utility hotel for Duke/hospitals
By wrybread, 2/10/09
This hotel is probably not what you expect from the name "Millenium." It is adequate, clean and comfortable. The staff are responsive and very friendly. The hotel was excellent about finding and shipping to me a tech gadget I'd left behind. If you're going to Durham or Duke as a tourist, you might want a place with a few more flourishes and a little more color. But the Millenium is the closest good hotel to the University and the Duke and VA Hospitals in Durham. It's also on the Durham public transit (bus) line. Gym and pool are fine; eatery is adequate. Beds very comfortable (it appeared that Duke runs sleep studies in part of the hotel).

Not that good for a medical stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/25/08
We were going to Duke Med Center and thought the location would be good. We were there for almost two weeks while my wife had chemo treatment. They had a medical rate but our experience was poor. The room was small and didn't seem that clean, the food was overpriced and the shuttle wasn't running that often. Is it the big chain mentality or what? I'll look around next time to try to find something else with a comparable medical rate that has a regular Med Center shuttle and larger rooms. There should be something that has more space but also a medical rate. We also wanted to bring our dog to keep my wife's morale up while she was undergoing the chemo, but they didn't allow pets. I don't know, it just wasn't that nice.

The room were a big fat "0."
By Hennie, 7/22/08
Looks like a *4 hotel on the outside The charge is way too hide for this type of hotel. The room had mole on the walls (you could even smell it). We only needed a room for the night and wanted the best hotel. Well, this was the worst. The bellman?? offered us another room. The room was dusty, dirty and trash behind the furniture. I am allergic to dust. So right away I knew it was bad. If it were not for having to move my husband to another hotel (he had surgery), I would not have stayed. I was totally disgusted with the staff as well. They looked as if they were in Lala land with plenty of attitude. What a hell of an experience!!
