Great Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/4/11
It was a great hotel, I stayed there a few nights. I paid for most of it with a free gift card that I got from ESPN. I think they're still giving them out at nflgiftcards.info, hurry before they run out!

WE WILL RETURN!
By Karen, 7/1/08
My family and I have just got back from a wonderful 4 days in NY, from the moment we arrived at the San Carlos until we left, the Staff could not be more helpful(especially Matthew on the door) The check in was very quick and being able to get in our room before 3pm was much appreciated. First impressions of the room was the good size, plenty of room for the 4 of us. We got allocated a room at the back,it didn't have a view but was very quiet. You are hardly in your rooms so this one suited us just fine. The complimentary continental breakfast was an added bonus, which filled us up until mid afternoon, get down to breakfast room early because it's very small and gets very busy. Great little restaurant across the road which we used a couple of times, very friendly and very reasonable. The hotel is in a great location, very central to most places, and we felt very safe even walking around at night. We mixed sightseeing with shopping,Gound Zero,Staten Island Mall & Statue of Liberty, and the highlight Top of The Rock which we left till last. Worth every dollar for the view. We went up at sunset but unfortunately it was cloudy, but you could still see all the sights. The highlight for my 2 Daughters was the Shopping, looking for bargains, timed it well with most shops having sales on. We will be coming Back and would use the San Carlos again

Jewel on 50th
By saul balagura, 11/17/07
We made reservations based on the reviewers’ comments, and we want to add to them. It is a relatively small hotel with the décor of a fine European hotel, and given its impeccable look, it seems it was recently refurbished. The staff is courteous and efficient. It had a very international clientele. The room was appointed elegantly and immaculate and it was indeed large for New York, or for that matter any other city. Continental breakfast, included in the price, was quite adequate. We recommend this hotel highly and surely will stay there again in our next trip to NY.

All That Glitters Is Not Gold
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/27/06
Having recently returned from another New York City visit, we thought it necessary to provide another insight for this hotel which seemingly garners good to top reviews. We say NO. This hotel is quite less than what it and others says about it. First, the property is neither elegant nor charming and definitely not sophisticated. The reality is that the property is nothing more than a bit above a Holiday Inn Express or similar hotels that you may find on any airport strip, Second, while the Hotel trumpets its offering of a free continental breakfast one would be well advised to brace themselves before viewing the selection and confines of the offering. A closed and spartan room with tables and chairs accompanied by an orange juice dispenser and toaster does not, a continental breakfast make. Third, previous commentary on Trip Advisor and other web sites laud the staff for their friendliness and desire to accommodate. That was not our experience. On our arrival, we were confronted with ATTITUDE and plenty of it from the front desk representative who in a pre-emptory fashion dictated that one of the two rooms that we had booked was to be changed. No discussion or advance advisement. We challenged the representative and only when asking to speak to the Manager, were we able to arrive at a compromise. The room(s) were not elegant nor sophisticated but rather what would you expect from a hotel that is definitely not a 4 star hotel. The interior of our rooms on the 10th floor ( Junior Suite and Exec King) were well worn with the bathroom showing distinct signs of use and needing a good painting, Finally, previous writers on Trip Advisor have referenced the street noise. We agree and there was plenty of it. For a hotel that has spent a significant amount of money on refurbishment ( their words) and notwithstanding that New York is and can be a noisy city, the noise from the street at all hours is quite incredible. For our money ( and the hotel is not cheap) we say that the San Carlos is not what it seems nor says and to that extent, we say exercise caution in choosing the San Carlos Hotel. There are better hotels in the same area at the same or lesser price. Ottawa, Ontario

Relaxed Elegance
By MichaelB, 9/21/05
After making a reservation for My sister-in-law and niece when my old stand-by hotels were unavailable, I was pleased that they loved my choice although it was sight unseen but well recomemded. I then spent a long weekend there myself and could see why it was such a hit. The Hotel is very European in sensibility. An elegant adult aura for sure atlthough there were several nice young familes from arround the world. The Breakfast Room was a mini United Nations. And the staff: all of them were efficient, attentive and charming. MLB

What a remarkable find!
By Debra, 5/24/05
We visited New York City for the first time in August, 2004. After looking at reviews for the many available hotels in the area, we decided to try the San Carlos. What a gem! Upon our arrival, the hotel staff was friendly and fast. We were immediately taken to our room upon arrival. The room (or should I say mini-suite) consisted of a combination livingroom/kitchenette, including a microwave and small refrigerator, and a large television set. Off of this room was the bedroom containing a king-size bed, dresser, another large television set and mini-bar. The bathroom was also roomy. The hotel also offers a lobby area where you can access their computers and obtain free internet information.....great for checking email or finding a restaurant for dinner. You also get a continental breakfast with your stay. All-in-all, we had a fabulous time there and enjoyed our stay in New York at the San Carlos immensely. We would definitely stay at the San Carlos again, if and when we return to New York. As an afterthought, we extended our stay one night and decided to try out the Fairmont. Although the lobby and shops at the Fairmont are beautiful, the room we stayed in there was well below the quality we experienced at the San Carlos. What a remarkable find!

What an experience!
By Jennifer, 5/16/05
My experience at the San Carlos was nothing but pleasurable. The staff were friendly, polite, and helpful and the the hotel had top notch cleanliness. There's free internet access at this hotel which is great because most hotels charge extra for these services. They provided aveda bath products as well as very comfortable robes. We had free continental breakfasts each morning and the owner of the San Carlos visited each table during breakfast to see if the guests were enjoying their stay. The location of this hotel is great too! What a place to stay! If you're looking for a great hotel in NYC this is it!!!
