Trudy's Place
By Edward, 07/03/08
It is interesting, my wife and I have stayed at this motel at least three times if not four times before we were married (prior to 2004) and I am not sure if we have been there since but reading the other two reviews I am a bit perplexed.
I will give you our impressions of the place but keep in mind they are several years old and the place could have gone down-hill.
When gas was a buck or two a gallon we would spend a few weekends in the summer and a weekend or two in the fall in the Hudson River Valley. Previously we stayed at the Courtyard by Marriot in Poughkeepsie but that place was a bit $$$ (like in the $125-$140 range) and this one day we went for a ride with no room reserved and happened to drive past this Golden Manor joint and we pulled in.... it looked like a throw back to the 60's or maybe even 50's but I was smart and asked to look at a room before I registered....we looked at the room... the furniture looked like it was around from the 60's or 70's but the place was spotless and the bathroom was sparkling clean...so we stayed there.
Like I said, we have been there in all seasons numerous times and once we even used the pool and it was just a laid back place to be, next to the drive-in movie which we go to when we are there and across the street from FDR's house.... yes and once we even went to the Rhinebeck Car Show.
Cost at the time was $50 a night off season and $60 a night summer. After we got married we did spend one night there with my step daughter and got a room with 3 beds for $75 but that was the summer of 2004.
So, had anyone asked me back then I would have said the place was a clean, inexpensive, dump. Now...I don't know what to say...I guess I will listen to the other two reviews and probably not go there.
Note:
1- The owner's name is Trudy. When I call for a room I always ask for her as if I know here.
2- Don't count on the continental breakfast sfilling you up it i snothing more than coffee, juice, and off brand donuts.
