this time disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/30/09
we had planned my daughter's bachlorette gethering just for family, aunts and cousins and were looking forward to dinner at ballyhoo. when i made reservations, they told me to make dinner reservations when we arrived. well at our surprise, there was no ballyhoo. they were not open and we were told this was because they did not renew their licquor license. I think after booking 7 rooms we should have been told sooner. we had to eat hoagies from wawa because it was jazz weekend and everything else was booked.

DO NOT STAY HERE
By jonathan, 12/20/09
We booked a room for the holiday festivities. The day we were supposed to arrive, there was a blizzard. Cape May county declared state of emergency but we attempted to drive down anyway. We soon found out it was too dangerous. I spoke to the receptionist, Amelia, on the phone to see if we could get a different night. She was rude & she would not allow us to speak to a manager. She was unprofessional & unwilling to help. I expected more from this calibur of establishment!

Huge dissapiontment
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/02/09
We paid for an ocean view room, with hopes of sitting out on the balcony at night over-looking the ocean. Instead we had a view of the big ugly dome that covers the indoor pool. Our complaints were ignored and our calls unreturned from the manager. The staff was rude and careless. I will never again stay there nor would I recommend this hotel to anyone ever.

Grand Hotel is my favorite!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/22/09
My husband and I spent a weekend at the Grand Hotel in Cape May. I must say that the Grand is my favorite hotel in Cape May. The rooms are very clean, the satff is wonderful, and the Restaurant "Ballyhoo" is lots of fun. We were told that the restaurant was going to be renovated in March. I can't wait to return to see the new restaurant! If you are considering a vacation in Cape May, do yourself a favor and try the Grand!

too late to dine!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/22/09
My husband and I arrived at your restuarant 30 minutes prior to end of early bird special limit . We were told by the hostess that the computer already changed over to regular menu and early bird wasnt available to us.WE are regular customers at Ballyhoos and had driven 35 miles to dine that night.Due to the lack of courtesy and disregard for us as customers we left to dine else where. The next day a letter was written to the ballyhoos manager in regard to situation . AS of this time have not received reply. This is unaccptable due to the fact that local business, and all business should be welcomed during these hard times.

Call before you go to Ballyhoos restuarant !!!!
By , 03/22/09
I went there one morning for breakfast on a sunday .. 1100am .. Half the buffet was empty never refilled . Had to order everything from kitchen except toast. The food that was out on buffet was cold.. I have never seen this restuarant run so poor.. The other problem was employees were standing around talking and not attending to tables. I have been to this restuarant many times before and have had good meals breakfast or dinner. I thought this was a 1 time deal but I went back again On a sunday night and it happenned allover again.. I called for the manager who wasnt available or asst manager who wasnt available either. Then I went to front desk to leave message for manager to call.. they never did.. I definetly wouldnt recommend this restauarant anymore to anyone .. But hears the kicker I asked where there s a better restauarant and the grand hotel staff was very helpful to recommend a good restaurant in cape may.

Never Again
By CT, 08/14/08
I would NEVER recommend this Hotel to any one! It is definitely over-priced at over $200.00 a night. The young girls at the front desk did not know what they were doing. Every one told us something else. When I made our reservations, I was told I could stay only one night. I agreed to this and they charged my credit card the full amount (this was a charge; not a hold) that day, before we ever got there. When we finally arrived, we could not get into our room because they could not make us a key card, but they were able to swipe our credit card. They eventually gave us the Master Key, with the instructions to guard it with our lives. The electric was down a few times during the day. The next day we were told that another room was available if we wanted it to stay another day. We would just have to change rooms. We checked out of the first room & I went to pool with friends while our husbands went out until the room was cleaned supposedly by 1 PM. It was not cleaned by 1, or by 2, or by 3. Finally by 4 PM, but they would not let me into the room because I didn't have the credit card with me. My husband had it with him and he had gone out. This was the SAME card they charged before we ever got there! We were the SAME people, staying at the SAME Hotel, using the SAME credit card they swiped the day before, but they had to physically scan the card again! The young girls they had at the front desk were no help; even the manager was no help. The manager was definitely NOT a people person! As many times as we saw him in the Hotel, he never once even said Hello, How is your stay? Nothing. The only good thing about this place was Kate at the front desk; she is very pleasant & as helpful as she could be under the circumstances. Sean at the bar was also very nice, not that anything at the bar or restaurant could be charged to your room. You had to pay this separately. The same applied at the pool. Make sure you bring cash if you want to eat or drink there.

nice place, will go back
By sandra, 08/06/08
I was there with my family. 3 grandkids, daughter and son-in-law. My grand-daughter who 6 years old lost her tooth , the fairy god-mother left her a hundred dollar bill so that she could spend it on her vacation. I the grand-ma gave her 2 ten dollar bills as a bonus. we placed the tooth in tissue and the money in an envelope, into her pocket book, and tucked in between some clothes that were hung up. We went to the pool when we got back I noticed the bag sticking out and pushed it back in. When we got home after we checked out I looked in the envelope that was sealed and the hundred dollar bill was missing. We never sealed the envelope...the bathroom never got cleaned, and I the cleaning person got a tip of $120.00 dollars shame on Ilevea....

Overpriced but across from beach
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/13/08
We just returned from staying at the Grand Hotel. We rented a oceanview townhouse. Our rooms (two story) had a great partial view of the ocean and a full view of the outdoor pool and parking lot. We were thrilled that the hotel accomodated 5 people with 2D beds and pullout couch and 2 baths) Although the hotel is directly across from the beach, the hotel is old and does not offer exceptional ammenities for the price (almost $400/night with taxes). Upon check-in we weren't given any kind of information packet for the hotel. The indoor pool was open most of the time but no towels were supplied in the pool areas. The outdoor pool hours seemed arbitrary. We had thought that after dinner, we could take the kids for a swim and most evenings the pool was closed. The rooms are in dire need of updating. The kitchen cabinets are metal, and don't stay closed. The refrigerator was stuck and when one did get it open it had to be slammed shut. The couches, one regular and one pull-out did appear to have been purchased at a yard sale. The second bathroom on the 2nd floor was so small and if we were any taller than our 5"7 heights we would crack our heads on the ceiling. Plus, we found ants crawling through our luggage on the floor( since there wasn't enough space for luggage) Our townhouse was also 5-6 feet shorter than other townhouses on the floor but our bill was the same( I inquired about this at the front desk out of curiousity) We were disappointed in the hotel and won't return there when we return to Cape May
