worst hotel experience I have ever had
By RebeccaE, 4/20/10
It started when I drove up and discovered that there is only valet parking available. The valet parking is free, but of course they expect tips. Then I got inside to check in, and found out that there is a charge of $3.50/day "resort fee" + $11.50/day "parking fee" (or whatever they call it). That was an additional $15.00 cost each day that I did not know about. (Was it in the fine print? I don't know.) This place is most definitely NOT for business travelers. No ironing board or iron; no coffee maker or cups; no rerigerator; little space to keep personal items. The telephone in my room would not call the front desk, and the door locks in my friend's room were broken. When we returned to the hotel at night, there was "music?" very, very loud, thumping, thudding which went on literally ALL NIGHT LONG - until 7:00 AM. I could hear it and feel it in my 3rd floor room. In the lobby, the lighting was so dim I felt like I was in a cave. And the red lights in the elevator and elsewhere, along with much of the artwork, made me think more of bordello than boutique. If you're interested in partying all night, you might like it.

service is horrible & this hotel is filthy
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/6/09
The hotel is beautiful but unfortunately very, very dirty! Our hotel room floor was so dirty we didn't take our shoes off the entire time we were there. Our room was too hot (we were finally told on the 3rd day that the A/C required a key card), the front desk rarely answered the phone, there was opened wine and dirty glasses in our refrigerator, there are no vending machines, we had 1 washcloth between the 3 of us, and the pool was dirty. I was very disappointed that such a beautiful hotel with excellent potential was so filthy and disgusting. I would pay a few extra bucks for a clean hotel. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Ripped off and Disgusted
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/20/08
We stayed at the Artisan in March 2008. Other hotels were already booked for this weekend. The Artisan sounded interesting, so we booked our reservations through TravelWorm.Com. The outside of the hotel looks like an older motel with a face lift. The inside is dark and creepy looking. The room was just ok, kind of old and dark, with a view of the freeway offramp. Once you check out, you find they have additional charges, like an energy charge, and parking charge. They only have valet parking, so every time you leave or come back, you need to tip the attendant (this is in addition to the parking charge); and, you do have to drive everywhere, because they are not close enough to the strip to walk and even if they were you wouldn't want to. They are not in the best location. They are surrounded by strip clubs. We made the best of it, but decided we would not be back. Then five months later in August 2008, to our surprise, we find that there is a charge of $433.82 by The Artisan Hotel on our checking account. We are disputing the charges but it is very aggravating and disturbing that they would do that. They did send us a letter after the fact, claiming that they charged our account because TarvelWorm did not pay their bill. They had the audacity to say in their letter that they recognized that this may create an inconvenience for us and offered us one free room if we booked a minimum of two nights stay in the near future. I was disgusted. How could they rip us off and think we would ever want to stay there again. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE!

never stay in this hotel anymore
By Tony X, 9/21/07
The hotel was terrible. 1. When I grab the key and opened my room, it was locked from inside and the room was dark. I pushed send time and someone from inside opened the door, he claimed he was the technician fixing the air-conditioning. Shouldn't technician open the door when they he was working inside, what's the reason he literally locked the room, I mean the upper hook one. And I noticed the bed, it seemed some one was laying there. I tuened on the TV and the Adult channel was on. I felt disgusting, I complained to the front desk and change to another room. 2. Since I booked and paid online, after I received my credit card statement, they charged for overnight parking and resort fee of total 15.00 a day! That's robbery. I mean, you can't advertise low price and charge guest all the junk fees. They claimed that they have post this in the lobby and checking sheet. Who will notice that? Terrible robbery! DOn't stay there!

Nickled and dimed. Rotten views . Beautiful interior though. Gorgeous pool area.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/21/07
The interior of this place is absolutely spectacular ! Very very nicely appointed. - You get actual glasses and not plastic to drink water out of here. And, wow are they CLEAN !!!! - LCD flat screen television is AWESOME ! - Beds are the most gorgeous I have ever seen ! The sheets are CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN and beautiful ! Bedspreads and pillows, just as amazing ! - Below the lcd television is a bottle of J.Roget champagne ( $ 20 charged to your room if you drink it, or $ 15 for Salmon Creek Merlot ) . Two EXTREMELY clean white wine glasses are provided along with a glass champagne bucket ( again, extremely extremely clean ) ! - Bathroom is understated and CLEAN ! - FREE internet !!!!!!!!! Bottom line with this place is it is the MOST GORGEOUS place I have ever stayed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cleanest place I have ever stayed either !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just to give you an idea I have stayed at the De Anza in San Jose California, one of the W hotels in Cupertino California , the Drake Hotel in San Francisco California , two other five star hotels in San Francisco California , and two four or five star hotels in Reno Nevada, among others. This place is the BEST of them all and I am @@ NOT @@ employed by any hotel anywhere , and ~~ NOT ~~ getting paid to write this !!!!!!!! ____________________________________________ Drawbacks __________ - NO coke machine ( I went into the Vagbound next door on the third floor to get three cans of coke ) . You have to go out the back past the pool to get there. There had been a flood at the Vagabound and the entire first floor was wet and sectioned off by security tape. - NO coffee maker in room. You will probably pay $ 5 in the restaurant downstairs for one cup of coffee NOT including gratuity. - NO snack machines ! Again, you can go next door out the back to the vagabound for that. - UGLY views out the window just like from any other hotel period in Las Vegas. There are NO views in Las Vegas ! - At the pool, you will probably pay $ 5 to $ 2000 or more for a glass of coke to a bottle of wine %% NOT %% including gratuity brought to you by someone that works here. - **** $ 10 cab ride NOT including gratuity to downtown. Cabs are BIG TIME FROWNED UPON here !!!!!!! Jaguars and cars from upwards of one hundred thousand dollars are in the parking lot ! **** - Valet parking ONLY !!!!!!!!

Unique Hotel / Bad Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/29/07
The Food was great and the Hotel has a feel that you will not find in any other Las Vegas Hotel. Great for Adults. I really like the fact I did not see any kids in this Hotel running around. My only problem was the staff. Let me correct myself. The Staff was good in all areas but the front desk. I asked to speak to the manager because my room was rented from under me. I came back 3 times to check in to my room and the person told me that my two bed room will be ready at 4:00pm. When I came back the 3rd time they stated they did not have any rooms with two bedrooms left. When I asked to speak to the manager he stated they never guarantee what types of rooms they will reserve. I told him I had this reserved for about 7 days. The bottom line, if someone comes behind you and is going to stay more nights, they will sell the room from under you. (Thatᅵs how I feel) When I went to speak to the manager there were 3 people that were waiting to speak to the manager. Itᅵs funny that all of us were renting the rooms for a few nights. The manager was nice but he could care less. I am a manager of an IT company in Orange County. If the service was not bad I would send all of my employees to this Hotel because of the atmosphere and location from the main strip. I will be sending them to the South Point. The service was better. Americans need to wake up and start getting back to being more service oriented. I guess the customer is not always right if there is someone that is waiting behind you to pay for the room.

NEVER AGAIN!
By Loyce, 5/21/07
Takes some very defensive driving just to get to it in the first place. Found out why the price was so cheap, so were the accomodations. Gaudy, ugly paintings EVERYWHERE. They make up for the lower room price by charging you for parking and "resort fees" whether you like it or not. There is no other place to park, except valet parking THEN they make you pay for it AND expect you to tip them every time you turn around. The front desk staff had very poor attitudes.

Loved the Artisan!
By Jennesis K. Jensen, 4/20/07
My sister and I both stayed at the Artisan Hotel in Las Vegas in early April 2007. We absolutely loved the hotel, and it was a refreshing change from the usual neon glitz of Vegas. A Few Tips About the Artisan: Rooms: All rooms are named after famous artists and decorated inside with their artwork. If you have a favorite artist, request their room! The best rooms are the large king bedrooms versus the two double bed rooms, because the king bedrooms face the Vegas Strip, and the double rooms face the parking lot. The beds were comfy and the rooms were clean. Sometimes the maids made up our rooms twice a day! They had a good blowdryer and nice big towels. The rooms are a bit small and dark, but we didn't mind. Oh- minor alert! The TV's have a a "Channel 69" that airs porno without a block or pay system. Interesting to stumble upon while channel surfing with your little sister in the room! Halls: It's kind of like walking in a fun-house down the halls which are studded on all sides with art. Also, the floor is a little uneven, so sometimes you feel like you are unbalanced! Lobby: Everyday at 4:30pm The Artisan has free wine-tasting. This was awesome! Great wine, and a great place to meet new people. By the way, the fact that the hotel is non-smoking is one of the best things about this place. Smoking is restriced to barside and poolside only. Front Desk: Really nice, friendly, accomodating people. However, a word of warning. If you have a car (which I recommend) you will have to pay a $6.50/day valet charge to park it. There is no self parking. However, we really liked having the convenience of 24 hour valet. Also, there is a $3.50 energy tax placed on your bill each day. I thought this was worth it, given that the guest business center was free, with free internet access, wifi, printing, etc. and I used it every day. Also, if you want a pool towel, you have to leave your license at the front desk and won't get it back until you return the towel. Pool: The pool is really small, but clean and refreshing with beautiful vases and decor surrounding it. There are lounge chairs and lounge daybeds for relaxing. There was no jacuzzi or spa available at the time we went. Also, there is no open bar or food service poolside. You can request food or drink service from the restaurant though, but it's pricey. Restaurant: Beautifully decorated, good Italian food, but definitely a bit pricey. Entrees range from $12-$32. Location: I would really recommend having a car if you are staying at this hotel. The hotel is quite a ways down Sahara Ave. over a freeway overpass. You can walk to the strip, but it takes about 25 minutes, and you have to cross quadruple lane freeways on foot. There is no way I would do this by myself or at night. Also, remember, you are walking in the Vegas heat!. There are no major casinos nearby that you can catch a free shuttle from. To get a taxi to the strip from The Artisan costs $7-$10 one way. This is way too expensive if you are going back and forth to the hotel. We ended up just renting a car and paying the valet fee, which actually worked out well since we felt we needed a car to get around the strip efficiently. The hotel is located near some strip clubs, but it is safely cornered away, and there is no seedy element or shady drunk people coming into contact with the hotel. Overall, my sister and I were very happy with The Artisan. If you have a car and are looking for an amazing alternative atmosphere with a chill, relaxing vibe, this is the place for you. I would definitely stay at The Artisan again.
