Keep the dogs, dump the people....
By sherry, 10/26/12
This was a great stay. It was a beautiful place, the service fantastic. And being a dog parent, I was thrilled that this beautiful place took dogs. They had a cute little area wiith fake grass, poop bags and even a fire hydrant. However, while crossing down the grass slope to the parking lot, I was really disappointed to see the lawn literly covered in dog waste, and the fact that the grass was manicured tells me that it is cleaned up at least once a week.m It also tells me that some people are lazy and just plain selfish. You can get poop bags that attach to your leash for 3.00. next year when no one can bring there dog to the hotel we will know whom to thank.!!!!CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR DOG!

great experience. better than expected
By Art, 7/16/12
We just returned from Reno, visited for the first time, celebrated our 11 year anniversary we stayed at The Grand Sierra Summit Tower. We have no complaints everything was great! Beyond our expectations! Check in was pretty quick, less than 5 mins., even with a few baseball teams also staying there. Got a screaming deal " $165 for the grand suite, Friday -Sunday , 2 FREE tickets to see Vive Le Cirque "good seats" also a great show a must see! Rooms are beautiful! marble floors in the bathrooms, tv also, huge shower, very nice updated shelving, magnificent view of the mountains & swimming pool. Also got the added on breakfast in bed " $38 " includes everything 2 breakfast meals, a small garafe of juice, room service fee and gratuity! Sierra skillet breakfast was delicious! They also have a few different restraunts to choose from higher end steak house all the way down to the cheap $5.99 breakfast & of course a buffet. Few different stores to shop at. Little fun setup up in front right when you pull in, go-carts, and some type of high rise swing thing, lol & cant forget about the bowling alley inside the hotel! All around great experience! Will definitely be back. would recommended this place to anyone!!!! And if you forgot to bring ANYTHING Wal-Mart is right across the street.

NIGHTMARE- Motel 6 is even better
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/30/11
PLEASE STAY AWAY. WORST NIGHTMARE! I WOULD GIVE A -INFINITY. SUPERVISOR THREATENED TO EVICT US. DID NOT ADDRESS OUR CONCERNS AT ALL. I KNOW THIS IS LONG, BUT WORTH READING FOR A HONEST OPINION and know what you are getting into. SUMMIT GRAND 2 SUITE PET FLOOR **BEWARE NOT CHILDREN OR PET FRIENDLY** I'm really not a picky person when it comes to hotel since I've been in only 2 hotels in my life. We had to pay full cost for this. First off: 1) found a pacifier behind the couch 2) I stepped on a sharp rock/glass on the carpet causing my toe to bleed 3) shelves were all old and secured with falling off dusty black tape 4) there were cigarette holes on sheets 5) found brown/blood stain on sheets 6) outlets are broken 7) no ventilation 8) fan is weak and ready to break 9) lights are so dim, strained my eyes 10) floors/carpets were not vacuumed 11) cups provided were stained 12) resort fee covered "FIJI" water however we got "GRAND SIERRA RESORT" water 11) shower is very tight and shower head does not move 12) no point in the huge mirrors since the mirrors are so dark we can't see anything 13) someone kicked me out of the casino area because I looked under 21 but in fact I'm 30... there are plenty of other girls who looked younger than me but didn't 14) phone barely works, had to punch in the numbers several time before the call went through, the connection is poor. All i heard were static noises. 16) black, dirty markings all over the walls 17) dust and leaves left in the corners 18) the "pet friendly" grass area was covered with decomposing pet crap. Technically not even a grass area but HAY area, since there were naked blotches among the YELLOW dead grass. 18) don't be fooled by the pictures the site provides ***NIGHTMARE BEGINS*** So we got a room on the pet floor because I wanted to stay with my minipoodle. As we walked down the floor, the halls so very poorly lit and dogs were barking. That didn't bother us since we understand that it's a dog's natural instinct to bark and we have a dog ourselves. I came back to my room to get my ID and found out that my room key didn't work. At that time I disregarded it and thought it might probably work later. ( we did not get any notice about the room key deactivation) Boy was I wrong, after supper we came back to our room to find out that our keys are still not working. Therefore, we had to head back to the front desk to ask for assistance. The supervisor, DAVID greeted us with a impartial look. He claimed that the hotel received 3 complaints about my dog barking and that there will be a $100 cost for the disturbance. I tried to explain to him that no one notified us about any disturbances, however, he retorted that he had called 5 times and even left a voice mail about it. When we checked our phone that had been locked away in our room. It showed only one missed call. The voice mail we received mentioned nothing about disturbances but just "urgent". He clearly exaggerated and did not rightfully notify us before deactivating the room keys. Moreover, we had explained to him that other dogs barked menacingly at us when we walked in and out of our rooms. He simply replied, "your incident is irrelevant." Now, we all agree that it is irrelevant, but I had a complaint as well. This supervisor refused to listen but continued to complain to us how our dog caused them to lose 3 customers and hundreds of dollars. BULLSHIT, they have no proof to determine that they left solely because of my dog's barking. I'm upright sure that those three customers were just as displeased as we are now, so they simply took advantage of my dog's slight barking to get a refund. What happened to the "GUARANTEED SATISFACTORY CUSTOMER SERVICE ADVERTISED". Supervisor DAVID even threatened that they could evict us now. Really? Really now? He told us we HAVE to pay the $100 because we signed the the pet liability statement, despite never given the whole contract. We only had the page to sign

DO NOT STAY HERE!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/14/11
Be Warned!! The wait to get a room was 50+ people long, and took over an hour. The first two rooms I was given were unacceptable. The third room was without a working AC unit. Was 8 pm before I could get into my room. The worst part of my stay was that these problems were not the worst part of my stay:( I contracted food poisoning after eating a raw, undercooked hamburger at the Grand Sierra Cafe the very next day and spent the rest of my "sick-ation" seriously ill. The hotel never even offered any compensation for my illness??:( Do not stay or eat here!

WHILE ON VACATION.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/5/11
While on vacation at our Sierra property in California. We decided to go to the gun show. After paying my entry fee, I went to the gate to show the ticket for entry. I was denied entry because I had a digital camera on my belt. Hey guy's we are on vacation. I had more than 4 guards there to escort me out of the area. I was told to take my camera back to the car. This parking lot is huge. I told her to give back my entrance fee back to me and I will be gone. Most everyone had a cell phone?Camera? unreal. This is first and last time. It was not good first time visit. I can not speak of resort or casino. I will never go there again.

Bait and switch, worse than horrible service.
By Justin77, 12/29/10
Doest not guarantee your booking, threathened to kick you out if you argue! Family of three checked in December 26, 2010 around 11 PM after exhausting 7 hour driving from San Jose under snowy condition. I booked room with two queen beds. First, the front desk sent us to a room that was already occupied, and told us that it was a computer error (how computer could make an error if it was not a human error? Pointing finger to computer?) Then, front desk sent us to a room with only one bed but greed to deliver a roller bed. I was very unhappy because my son is 6’2” and roller bed just won’t fit. Arguing with supervisor, he just said “read the term and condition: Grand Sierra will not guarantee the room type of your booking”. What? Come at your own risk? I said “your hotel knows exactly what kind of room and how many of those you have and should accept booking accordingly!” Immediately, the front desk supervisor threatened me “IF YOU RAISE YOUR VOICE, I WILL CANCEL YOUR BOOKING!!” What? If it was not with my family and under severe whether condition outside; I would argue with him to the end!! I hope everyone knows my horror story and boycott this hotel!

DISAPPOINTING
By DogsLife, 11/16/10
The pool and lobby bar were often closed for private parties. As well, the pool was closed due to a guest vomiting in it, etc. The gym equipment was poorly maintained and machines important to me were not functional. As well, there were plumbing problems in the tub/shower. The bathroom fixtures were old and worn.Don not expect good food. I unexpectedly had to use the the room phone for a short long distance call and, for example, was charged exorbitantly over $35.00 for a relatively short call. When I disputed the amount for telephone calls, logs were sent with detailed information on other guests. Overall cleanliness was fair, the location and parking availability worked well for me.

Wouldn't waste my money
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/24/10
My furniture was literally held together with black duct tape; both bed side tables and the desk had black duct tape holding most of the edges of the furniture together. Also, the photo they show on their website of the lake is nothing more than a concrete holding pond that they added some floating golf holes in the middle of...definitely not a beautiful water front.

Beware of Pit Bull dogs Your Floor
Yes, I found out the had way that Grand Sierra is a pet friendly hotel, that includes pit bull dogs as well!. I was checked in on the 16th floor with my family and entered the elevator area around 7 pm with my 6 year daughter and wife. As the elevator door opened, out jumped a huge, white pit bull dog on a leash. When my daughter approached the dog within a half a foot, I immediately grabbed and lifted her away. That's when the owner of the dog informed me that the hotel is pet friendly and it was registered with the front desk. After calling security and having the dog and the owner checked out, the owner had lied and the dog was snuck upstairs via the arcade floor (ground floor). A full report has been filed with the hotel. The hotel has a few serious problems. First and foremost the lack of security on the most vulnerable floor for entry - there is no security officer or perhaps video monitoring like other major hotels. Although there is no full proof system to discourage pet owners from sneaking their pets into their rooms, the Grand Sierra does not practice any safeguards to protect its patron from potential a horrific disaster. Second, after reading the pet policy for the hotel, it clearly lacks any guidance on permissivable breeds and poundage. I hate to think what would have happened if the huge pit bull had locked his/her jaw on my daughter's fragile arm or leg! Even if the pit bull was allowed on one of the two pet floors (4th, 24th?), there a great chance that the pit bull might have attacked another pet or its owner. As I was quoted by one of the accompanying security officer while writing the incident report, " This is an accident waiting for it to happen." Unfortunately in my case the hotel failed to disclose to me that it was a pet friendly hotel.

Wonderful
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/15/10
Loved the beds, want one just like it sleep like a baby. We were on the 26 floor. The rooms were Great. Beautiful. I wished it had a bathtub but the shower was very Lovely. It had everything we needed and more. My only complaint is the Beach lounge that you can barely hear on the 26 floor. I feel sorry for anybody lower than us. We (two couples in two different rooms) just loved it. I still want the bed. The restaurant Charlie Palmer is pricie but so well worth it. Everything that we ordered was mouth watering GREAT. The service was also WONDERFUL. Four people 189.00 without the tip but also 4 drinks. Just something you have to do once on vacation.
