Very nice stay
We stayed in three different places on this trip and this hotel was by far the best. It was nothing fancy, but the desk crew made sure we had a good experience. Access to the freeway was very good also. A high speed internet terminal was present in the front lobby that was nice, but the connection was subject to needing a reset every 15 minutes or so. Someone should really check that out.
When we checked in, the front desk associate asked where we would like our room (close to the pool? which floor?). That was cool. After we chose one close to the pool, our first walk-in revealed an intermittent crunching sound that was probably the bearings of the air handler. The front desk associate walked down with us to check it out, agreed and found us a better room.
However, the crunching didn't get fixed during our next two days. I hope no one had to stay close to it.
The pool was great for the kids. There's a virtual lilly pad of activity, with a waterfall, so it gets kind of loud. There's no diving possible in the 3 feet of water and not much swimming possible either. But it's the best kiddie pool area I have ever seen, for the little ones.
The hot tub was shut down, which is sadly the case at half the places we stay. Are these things just atrocious for repairs or what?
The adjoining breakfast at Perkins is nice, but on our trip our kids couldn't get their free dessert crazy cookies (half sugar cookie/half chocolate chip) because "the cook didn't show up today" and we were informed that "no substitutions are allowed". Not a great example of customer service. Further, that comment kind of made us wonder about the original breakfast items: were they all just microwaved?
However, the Perkins experience shouldn't reflect badly on the Best Western, where our stay was terrific thanks to the individuals working there.
