Buyer Beware!!!!!
By BeckyJo, 08/27/09
The lobby is very impressive and the restaurant lovely. That's where the enchantment ends. No A/C. No elevator (we had brought my parents who are seniors). The bathrooms were dirty. We ate one night in the restaurant. I've had Happy Meals that were tastier and delivered with better service! The server asked us how our meal was and when we told him it was less than desirable, he got all huffy and told us that's what you get when you arrive so close to closing (They closed at 10 P.M. and we got there @ 8:30 P.M.). They are certainly NOT counting on repeat business anywhere in this lodge!

We're going again this summer
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/30/08
Sure, it's expensive, but all of the lodges are beautiful and fun. We're a family of five, and hotel staff worked with us to get the best value for our budget. They had our rollaway ready when we arrived, and did everything they could to make sure we knew where everything was. The bathrooms are small, and the hot water seemed to run out quickly, but then, there were 5 of us, so we don't hold that against the lodge. The wonderful Serrano's restaurant is right around the corner, so if you don't want to pay the (pretty high) prices in the lodge restaurant, I'd highly recommend stopping by Serrano's for some Mexican food!

View of History
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/14/07
I wanted my two grandsons to experience the Lodge, and booked one night there. I knew what to expect in re the room--gee whiz, they are trying to keep them as when they were built--if you want luxury in a room, rather than history--this is not the place. I am sure there must have have been a bell person somewhere, but didn't see one, and dragging our luggage up two flights of stairs was not fun--no elevator. Soup in the lounge was tasty, but had lumps of thickening in it. There should be a choice for breakfast, as the buffet is overpriced for what kids can eat. I am glad I spent one night there, and the hotel and lobby are gorgeous. We thoroughly enjoyed the Red Bus Tour up to Logan's Pass! People in the gift shop were extremely helpful.

Glacier Park Lodge, Not worth the Price!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/13/07
We just returned from Glacier National Park and it was gorgeous. We had a wonderful time in the park and I highly recommed it to anyone. We stayed at Glacier Park Lodge in East Glacier and it is horribly overpriced for what you get. It is historic and the lobby is very impressive and that is where the charm ends. We got to our rooms and were very disappointed. The day we arrived it was 105 degrees and there was NO A/C. We did request fans that were delivered to our rooms. There is very sparse cell phone service (NO ATT/Cingular) and NO internet access at all, no TV. The bathroom is like that of a motorhome. Very small and no shelf to set anything on, we had to use the very small window ledge. There were dust bunnies everywhere under the beds and the air circulation was minimal. The hallways were loud, though we kept the fans on all night so we could sleep. All this would not have been bad if the rooms were $80/night but for $175+ taxes, fees, etc. I expected MUCH MORE! Also, the staff didn't really seem to know what they were doing. Most of them were from out-of-state/country and were just working there for the summer. They were all nice but clueless. I agree with the other reviews about the food. The restaurant is not worth it. The breakfast buffet had much to be desired. The bar is the only place you can get something decent for a reasonable price, make sure you are not in a hurry though. And, the HEATED POOL that they advertise is SO cold you can only stand it for about 10 minutes. This place is NOT WORTH THE PRICE at all. Camp instead, you will feel better about the money you spent!

A History Lovers Paradise!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/13/06
My parents & I stayed here one night in mid-September. It was really cool, because it was like "stepping back in time". I really liked the impressive lobby where everything was made of giant logs. It makes a person feel so small. We especially liked relaxing in the old chairs, in the glass enclosed breezeway, that face the mountains surrounding the lodge. Even though I'm just 13, I really like history & architecture, but most kids probably wouldn't care for this place since there is no TV, Wi-fi, or cell service. It's a good place for either people who are not spoiled to modern conveniences or people that are, but would like to temporarly "get-a-way-from-it all" and certain for history buffs.

Got what I feared
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/14/06
I booked this and didn't check it out that thoroughly, and then I came on this page. Most of the reviews I soon found are sadly right on. It's too far from Glacier Park -- you're adding on an hour drive each way with the same drive. The rooms are old without being charming. The setting is beautiful -- it is Montana. The lobby is spectacular, but unless you want to take advantage of that and spend all time there, it's not worth it. The food is dull. The service is disinterested. In one small example, I asked for a late check out the night before and was told I could have one. Then when I checked on that in the morning, I was told now I couldn't, as they had too many of them. I'm not sure if I've ever been turned down for a late check out. It's definitely not worth the price.

Staffing needs improvement
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/26/06
The lodge was impressive as you drive-up the driveway and enter the inside lobby. The lobby and lounge area needed more cleaning it was not as sparkling as it should be for a grand historic hotel. The staff at front desk were not trained fully in customer service. They kept relying on someone in the back office. The dining was a dissappointment - food was expensive and tasteless. It didn't even look good on the plate! The worse experience was the dessert. The cake was ordered 2 days in advance for a birthday we were celebrating. The kitchen staff forgot to make the cake on time and were making it while we were having dinner. The cake was presented with dripping frosting because the cake was still hot and overcooked. There were 10 guests at the table so they cut the cake into 10 huge peices. It was not a pretty site. It ended the evening with terrible food and dessert. We won't be back from Austin, TX

Don't Waste your Money
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/09/06
I went to glacier park on my honeymoon, and couldn't wait to get out of there. First of all the room was overpriced for what it was. A $40 bed, no tv, no ac. Pipes hanging all over the ceiling. The bathroom was so small, I don't even know how to explain it. Housekeeping knocked on my door at 8 A.M. Restaurant service was horrible and RUDE. Red bus tour was laughable. I don't understand why they are preserving these things, it was like riding in a school bus at 60 mph through winding mountain roads. We stopped at the Many Glacier Lodge for lunch and one of the waitresses sat behind us with the bus drivers and they were talking about how they should shut down the restaurant when the red bus tours come through so that we would have to eat this fondue thing that nobody wanted to eat. The only blessing was the massage at the spa. The lady there was absolutely wonderful, I would highly recommend. So overall, it's a shame that these beautiful lodges are not kept up and that they charge huge rates for crackhead rooms. Makes me sick. Stay out of town or at one of the nearby motels if you can.

Long time dream.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/24/05
In June 2005 we realized a long time dream of ours and traveled to Glacier Park from Northeast Ohio. We traveled for 10 days spending time in Colorado and south central Montana. We had reservations at the Lodge and could hardly wait to see the lobby in person. We checked in and really liked our bellperson. Our room was really nice and had a private balcony with really great views of the mountains. If you want modern conviences stay elsewhere. No TV. No Hotwater until 7:30 am. It was like being there in the 1930's. Very comfortable beds. The food was just average and way too pricy, but the service was excellent. The gift shop personel were very helpful but the prices were way to high for alot of the nicer gifts. We were glad we visited the lodge and felt like we really did visit history but we were glad to leave and find a more modern facility on our way to Seattle.

Not worth it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/04/05
I disliked Glacier Park Lodge because of a lot of reasons. I went there for a visit with my family. They gave me a room with a huge balcony which was shared with another room. In our room there were two clean beds with a bathroom and a walk in closet. The bathroom was extremely small. It included a low, dirty sink (it had dirt and grease all over it), a really small toilet, and a tiny shower. If anyone has claustrophobia, I wouldn't recommend you use this bathroom. This room was stuffy and when you turned on the faucet, the water would splatter all over you. The toilet would hardly fit your butt and you could hardly move in the shower. The closet was very big. Inside you could hang a lot of clothes and put your luggage in there. I don't get as to why the bathroom has to be so small but the closet has to be so big. My family didn't even use the closet. The hotel's floors squeaked so during the night, all I could hear was people walking upstairs, even people walking in the hallway. The worst part was that our room was located near the stairs. So you could hear people coming back from the lobby head downstairs. You could hear them talk, you could hear them walk. It was annoying and a disturbance. I didn't sleep well that night. The reason I booked this hotel was because Travel Channel showed and described how magnificent it was. To be honest, if you didn't see the rooms yet, it is beautiful. The lobby is huge and unique. It made the hotel feel very cozy and warm. There is a beautiful view in the lobby hallway where everyone was. I understand why. I don't think they wanted to go back to their hotel rooms because the hallway had comfy chairs, a nice view, and there was a lot of activity going on. Their restaurant was pretty good too. I don't think I would ever go back to Glacier Park Lodge to stay for a night but I would most certainly go back just to visit.
