Im surprised at the sour grapes
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/26/09
In an attempt to establish my credibility, let me just say that we have visited many of the finest resorts in the world, having been to dozens of countries over a lifetime of travel..(lived in) Aspen, Positano, New York , Tokyo, London, Malibu, Lanai...have owned and maintained horses for decades.....the Flathead Lake area is one of the last, finest, undiscovered gems on Earth.....as far as the Lodge.....dirty cabins?, horses with hacking coughs? B.S!!..........for those of you who have barely been around block, and need to have your hand held every minute, maybe you should visit Disneyland....

Outstanding Vacation for the Entire Family
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/20/08
From swimming, snorkling, fishing, sailing, to horseback riding, hiking, golf, tennis and volleyball, Flathead Lake Lodge has something for everyone! Nestled on the shores of Flathead Lake, with the mountains around you, Flathead Lake lodge is the perfect family get-away spot. Accomodations are relaxing, tasteful and comfortable. From the rustic main lodge, with it's floor to ceiling fireplace and family style dining, to their rooms and fully equipped cabins, guests will find everything to their liking. The resort's staff is top-notched, and is there to cater to your needs. Food and service is top quality. Meals are delicious and the food is plentiful. The entire Flathead Lake Lodge experience is one that memories are made of. You're going to love everythng about it. Can't wait to go back

Going back next year!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/12/07
June 2007 was our first visit to the Lodge. We had a wonderful time and as we were leaving my two children (13 and 9) and my husband asked to make our reservation for the following year. There is so much to do that everyone can find something that they enjoy - waterskiing, sailing, horseback riding, kids rodeo, white water rafting, the list could go on and on. The food was so great, and we are really picky eaters. This is a wonderful, back to the basics vacation centered around spending time with your family and the friends you make during the week - truly a real vacation from the stress of our everyday lives.

The Best Vacation Spot I have Ever Been to
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/31/06
i love this lodge because i have been going there since i have been 3 years old... i am now a teenager. i am a picky teenager also, it is not easy to find things for me at home to do...but at the lodge, i am always amused and i ave something to do, wether it is horseback riding through scenic forests on tame horses that i have learned to love, cruises on the ranches boat, waterskiing, wakeboarding, eating (the best gourmet cuisine in the country, filet mignons...etc.), the steakfry, biking in the woods, fishing, flyfushing (on the banks of some of the finest fishing rivers in the country, swimming in the pool, swimming in the lake, canoeing, kayaking, sitting in the lodge playing poker, ping pong, pool, dances, the campfire, diving off of the ledge of the tower into the lake, sitting by the eternal fire in the lodge, sitting and talking with new friends that i ahev met there. this is the best spot for familes and well, pretty much everyone, this is so because as you leave, there are hugs and love going around to everybody that you have encountered because they have been your closest friends for the past week, i still keep in touch with all of the people that i have met there. not many resorts have as much love as this does, i love this because there is a sense of home as you arrive there, and throughout tht week, the love grows for eachother and for the vacation spot, i give this lodge a 10 out of 10. i highly reccomend this to every family in america, or in the entire world, this is even good for college kids to kick back and relax for a little while, my sister is abotu to go to college and she finds this spot very relaxing and relieving to get away from all problems. everything tha you would want to do is there, there is even internet, but i would not reccomend using it, because it ruins that whole "back to the basics" theme. there are phones, i didnt use them that much, but they are there. i spent most of my time playing or hanging out with my friends and riding horses. there is a program that is great for young kids, it is called the junior wrangler program, the child gets up early, goes to the bars, feeds, waters, brushes, and tends to the horses and other livestock (sheep, cow, goats) and they help out with the trailridesl. the wranglers at this lode are the nicest people on the face of the earth, the main wrangler (buck) is really an old cowboy. he knows what he is doing. i suggest you give it a try...i guarantee that you will absolutely love it. carpe diem (seize the day).

Want get lost in the shuffle?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/13/05
I received poor service here. We paid over 2,300 hundred dollars per week per adult but there were many hidden charges at this "All Inclusive" ranch. Bike rental $85.00, charge for soft drinks, extra, a ride from the airport on a dirty bus with a broken windshield and a driver who kept running outside the bounds of the road markers-extra. Room cleaning must be extra too since our cabin had dusty furniture and very worn carpet. We have been to three other guest ranches in the US that had spectacular service but Averill's was a bust.

OUtstanding Ranch Vacation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/21/05
We just finished our 16th consecutive year of vacationing at Flathead Lake Lodge. For the first eight of those years we vacationed for just one week. During that time, we found that seven days was just not enough time to benefit from all that the Lodge has to offer. Since then, we added another week to our stay and now spend two weeks each summer residing at the Lodge. The Lodge offers what we believe to be a unique experience, one that has allowed my wife and me, as well as our children, to enjoy ourselves in ways not offered by any other type of vacation. In our view, the Lodge combines outstanding service, a breathtaking setting on the shores of Flathead Lake, with an extraordinarily large number of outdoor activities, including tennis, golf, fly fishing, sailing, guided hiking, mountain biking, children's arts and crafts, water-skiing, windsurfing, lake cruises, swimming, volleyball and – of course – horseback riding. All of these activities are offered within a very high-service, yet laid-back and relaxing environment. These ingredients have led us, as well as many others, to return year after year. As a result, one of the unintended consequences is that both my wife and I, as well as our children, have developed deep and lifelong friendships with the other families that also return year after year. We seem to all share the same objective of spending high quality time with our families in a relatively unstructured, yet very active environment. Frankly, our 16 years is short relative to many others who have come before us since the ranch opened in 1945. Each year we have such an outstanding time that we wonder how we can ever enjoy it as much again, but somehow each year’s experience becomes richer than the previous one. I guess the best way to put it is that it is the only “resort” I have ever been in where there are hugs with other guests and staff members, and tears in the eyes of many, as they depart to go back home. It is truly a very special place.

Horribly Disappointing
By Martha, 07/04/05
Our family looked forward to this vacation for nearly a year. We were horribly disappointed to find our cabin dirty with soiled carpet, a thick layer of dust on the furniture, worn bedclothes and a leaky tub faucet that management was unable to repair. The horses were unhealthy. They had dull, ragged coats and were obviously stressed. Many of the animals had a constant hacking cough. Safety was not stressed in the riding program. We could hear the sounds of traffic throughout our entire trail ride and had to cross a busy two lane highway to reach the trails. People were allowed to ride in shorts and sandals! Safety supervision of children was inadequate. After one day my family decided to cut our losses and leave. The ranch had a mobil four star rating but we can only surmise that mobil has not been there in awhile.
