Nice Location, Needs Updating
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/28/09
The room was very small with 2 queen beds. The furniture, mattresses and bedding were very old, the wood on the walls was scratched, and the bathroom wallpaper had seen better days. The office area is cute and homey with a cute ranch motif, but once you hit the halls it is pretty rundown and not as clean as it could be. The outside looks nice and the cafe has great food. For the price of this motel you could find much better accomodations in the area. This place really needs a huge remodel, not necessarily the motif, but new carpets, walls and furniture are a must.

western charm
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/26/08
Tha Dude Rancher Lodge was a wonderful change from the uptight snobby hotels that you find in Washington D.C. My husband and I stayed at the Dude Rancher for 3 weeks for buisness. He works right accross the street at the federal building. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The bedrooms were warm and cozy, with a refreshing and fun western theme. I loved the real pine furniture and even though the hotel has some age to it,it has been kept very well. The staff in the restaurant was warm and friendly and the food was amazing. I will definitely stay again and again and I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Montana.

NEVER AGAIN DIRTY
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/20/07
The idea behind the western theme was nice but the over all stay was the worst I have ever had! The rooms were dirty, carpet gross, bathroom had dirt laying on floor when we checked in, Tub and sink were peeling paint to cover the age and all was very dirty. I sprayed everything possible with alcohol and still had a problem taking a shower in that room. My son could not get over the dirt and refused to shower there at all. Would never walk on carpet with bare feet. Sheets were not changed the entire three day stay. Sheets had a mark on them that stayed there the entire time. Stay was June and air condition did not work we were told to open windows. Not comfortable with that but room was just too hot. When we made reservations we were told all they had were rooms with queen beds we had full beds I think that is all they have. We did receive a non smoking room but I think that is all the good I can say about that. We were offered a breakfast coupon due to lack of AC but we refused due to the look of the kitchen. I work in food service and would NEVER eat in that restraunt. There were no rooms for the three nights we needed in Billings that weekend so we were stuck. I would have paid $150 somewhere else to not stay in that room. They may only charge $54 but so not worth it!!!

Will not use again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/12/07
The room rates were higher than when we confirmed reservation, not including taxes. We had a renovated room that was ok to look at but was dingy & dirty. Heavy dust around bathroom vanity and lots of loose dirt on floor. Carpet was really bad with dirt & stains. I wiped the table with some toilet paper and it turned black. Not just a little but bad. We made reservations for two other families and their rooms were worse than ours. We were told we all had queen beds. No way. A very humiliating experience. None of the air conditioners worked the first night and only one worked after that. As we entered we walked past the open kitchen door. I would never eat there just based on what we saw. We needed the rooms for 3 nights and there were no other rooms in town available at any price so we were stuck. Never again. We did receive the non-smoking rooms promised. I must say that the pillows were new and the bedding was clean. That made it tollerable.

Great taste of the west for a downtown hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/19/04
We enjoyed the Dude Rancher - lobby is cramped and there is no elevator - price was right tho - no comp breakfast - breakfast and dinner at the restaurant was fine - room was small but clean. Would stay again if ever in Billings. Forgot to try the coconut cream pie!

Dude Rancher Lodge
By White Buffalo, 04/12/04
Great old style motel/hotel. All rooms have oak furniture w/ recent updates. 2nd floor rooms have vaulted ceilings and a spacious feel. Located in the heart of downtown Billings. Restuarant is old style cafe with big-haired, motherly type of waitresses. Great inexpensive breakfast. Give me the Dude Rancher any day over the Sheraton.
