Reasonable rate & excellent stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/24/10
My husband & I were going back home to Olympia from Colorado & found this hotel to stay overnight. Our first stop was expensive & the front desk clerk was not friendly. Our second stop to look, that night , 15 Oct 2010, I was not able to get her name, this young lady greeted us with a smile & offered us this room at reasonale rate. Very clean spacious room & meet our expectation. Breakfast was great & had variety of choices from fresh fruits to pancake, etc.

Get your hepatitis shot if you stay here
By Neil Downing, 10/8/10
My company booked this hotel for me. Otherwise I would have never stayed here. The sink area had hair on the counter when I arrived. I used one of the glasses for a drink of water. The next day the same glass had been put back with the others. The next guest will be able to use my glass too. And the next. Real nice. I wonder how many used it before me. The sheets were thread-bare and had permanent marker on them. The heater didn't work, so I froze the first night. The second night I turned on the hair dryer for fifteen minutes and that warmed the room enough. Why didn't I call for service? No way. Not worth the trouble. I'll live. I used the iron to get some wrinkles out of my unpacked shirts. The first shirt I ironed got a big waxy mark on it from the iron. I cleaned the iron and got the residue off for the other shirts. I did not eat in the restaurant, so I cannot comment on the food. However, I watched the restaurant employees on their break and they were in the parking lot unpacking boxes and generally getting clothes and hands dirty. Then they went in to cook. I went elsewhere to eat. If this hotel were $8 per night in Mexico City, I would not have minded so much. But the room was over $100 per night and it was quite unsanitary. Next time I come to Butte, I'll stay elsewhere.

The best accidental find of our trip
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/12/10
My husband and I found the Butte War Bonnet Hotel on our way to Glacier from Yellowstone. It was the least expensive hotel in the area so we were a little concerned. What a find!! Exellent, large, clean room facing The Lady. The heater was broken and the maintenance man was there immediately. The breakfast and the dinner special were both delicious, well prepared and plentiful. The pool, jacuzzi area was clean, clear and a perfect ending to the day.We would most definitely visit again.

Would never stay again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/9/08
I'm not sure where to start. The bed was hard and uncomfortable, with semi-transparent (worn?) polyester sheets and hard, lumpy pillows. The air-conditioner was so noisy, we turned it off and opened the window, which was screenless. Amenities were few - basic shampoo & 1 soap, thin towels. All furniture, fixtures, flooring, carpeting, had the appearance of "cheapest available". We were quoted a rate of $150/night (possibly high because of 4th of July holiday), which was more than double the value of the room. Had it been the only room available in town, and substantially cheaper, we would have expected what we got, and not felt so taken. Also, not knowing Butte, we were attracted to the "centrally located" description, and found it's far from any attractions, and the outskirts of town.

Not worth the money
By Meredith Morris, 5/23/08
The hotel is in need of some serious updating/remodeling--everything looked very old and worn out, including carpeting, bedding, bathroom etc. Much of the hotel showed signs of wear and tear and doesn't look like it has been cared for very well. Also, there was a bad, musty smell to the room. The price ($99) was way too high for the poor quality of the hotel.

Rip Off!
By Ron, 8/24/07
Apparently this was a Red Lion franchise, but is no longer. Red Lion must have bailed out before dumping money into updating the hotel, but the current owner continues to charge rates equal to Red Lion. Beyond the condition of the room---which other reviewers here accurately describe---the air conditoner did not work. Eventually, we were relocated to another room with a "somewhat" working air conditioner. The night desk clerk could offer only $8 off the room rate for the inconvenience; the morning desk clerk did manage $20. When I called the assistant manager? later, she offered a comp room but needed to have it authroized by the manager. That is the last I heard. Our party included other people who rented a suite. It smelled so badly that they went out and purchased air fresheners. Guests in an adjoining room also were relocated because of a strong mildew smell.

Not a 3 Star
By Maggie Jane, 8/22/07
We figured we were safe reserving a room here, with it being rated a 3 star hotel. Well...I was pretty disapointed when we opened the door. Needs remodeling badly. First thing we noticed was the toilet would not flush, not a good sign... The ONLY good thing about this hotel was the bed was comfortable. There was no information in the room at all re: pamphlets for town attractions, places to eat or even a phone book. The bath tub needs replacing and looked dirty and worn out. Actually the entire bathroom needs replaced. I was really disapointed with the room. Total with tax was $117, should of stayed at the Super 8.

a real disappointment
By jake, 5/6/07
I have stayed at a number of Red Lion Hotels over the years, but this one in Butte, Mt. was a real letdown. The room was dingy with stained walls and curtains. The alarm clock was broken and the tile in the bathroom was peeling up. There was no cold water, only very warm to scalding. The sign outside boasted of a spa, but the hot tub was ice cold and not working, and the workout room had old equipment and the floor was beyond dirty- it had leaves, twigs and dried mud in it. The complimentary breakfast had cold eggs and a barely edible fruit salad. The front counter staff were more interested in moaning about the work schedules and new computer system than asking if everything was alright. I will think twice about staying at Red Lion again, especially at at these prices, however, if you like high standards of mediocrity, then this is the place.

Disgusting!!!
By Jay, 6/27/06
Our room had a foul smell the moment we opened the door. Motel was full so couldn't move to another room. Opened windows to air out room. When we returned in the evening it was raining so we shut the windows. The stench was so bad during the night that we woke up with burning noses at 3 a.m. Price of room was jacked up for the busy weekend and was only worth less than half of what we paid. Bathroom was old and grody. Only had one desk person on duty to check everyone out in the morning so checkout was a nightmare. We won't stay here again!

Awful!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/10/06
I would never stay at this hotel again. The bathroom toilet was stained and the tub was filthy. We finally gave up even trying to have a shower - you were either scalded or frozen. As well, there was a strong smell to the bed and linens - never did get much sleep due to the odor. The morning "breakfast" was poor as well. The porridge had a crust on it. The scrambeled eggs were burnt and cold and if you like biscuits that shatter when you cut then - well then you would sure like these. Staff were not particularly concerned with our thoughts on the room or the food. I would not recommend this hotel.
