Great place..some friendly spirits as well!!
By UncleTom, 11/03/09
Love the room I had..the lady who owns the house made up a little basket each morning with fresh muffins..OJ and coffee and placed it outside my door in the morning. Had a visit by a mans spirit but he was not menacing at all may have been the Captain himself. Can't wait to get back!!

Rude and Obnoxious
By Kim, 10/14/09
I was planning a trip for our 1 year wedding anniversary. We were married around Halloweed and I thought Salem would be perfect. I called to inquire about reservations. The lady who answered the phone sounded half asleep. I said "hi, I'd like to make reservations?" I waited for a response (you know...like for when or when would you like to come?) Instead, the lady rudely said "well, aren't you going to say something? I replied, "well I was waiting for you to say something like for what date?" So, she rudely repeats.. "for what date?" I tell her and she completely cuts me off and says "no we're booked" and hung up on me. What a B*tch. Oh, so they're booked so they've already got they're money for that weekend and they don't need to be nice, is that it? I'm going to Salem anyway and we're staying somewhere else, and I am now tempted to go to the Coach House Inn just to tell her, yeah, you know what? I am going to say something. Your customer service skills suck!

Bad Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/02/09
I did not find the owner very welcoming. When I arrived, I had two other guests with me, which was not planned. I originally paid for a room for two guests. I requested if there was any way she could accomodate us. Her response was to purchase another room, which we were not able to do at the price she was asking. Consequently, we could not stay that night. I lost $159.07 in addition to having to purchase another room elsewhere for $100.00, which provided accomodations for four people. Traveling all of the way from Phoenix and pre paying for the room, I thought the owner could have at least tried to offer us some type of alternative for the other two guests, or perhaps she could have been nicer about the situation.

A GREAT EXERIENCE
By RobertM, 06/05/08
Today is June 2008 but my wife and I stayed at the Coach House Inn in 1999. I would guess it's still a great place to stay. At the time they were refurbishing the outside and had scaffolding around the front but it's a beautiful place, inside and out. The rooms were almost lavish with anti-bellum type furniture. The breakfast nook was tiny but just right for two people and it looked out over the front street. The bath tub was the smallest I've ever seen, about 3' long, and my wife loved it. Took lots of pictures of the place. Comfortable bed, two chairs by the fireplace and like someone else mentioned, a really neat fruit bowl delivered in the morning. We found this place by accident. Could not find a real motel anywhere in town, just B&Bs. But we lucked out and came across this one on the way out of town. We HIGHLY recommend it.

Beautiful!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/05/08
This Bed and Breakfast was absolutely beautiful! All the rooms were amazing. I wish we could've stayed in each one. It was nice and quiet. Having your own bathroom was a plus. Each morning we were served muffins, fruit , orange juice and coffee. The location was great. Just a short walk to all the festive activities. Overall, the Coach House Inn was a wonderful experience. I can't wait to go back.

Very much enjoyed our stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/16/07
We very much enjoyed our recent stay at the Coach House Inn. The manager/owner(?) greeted us warmly. She was very helpful with what to see and do in Salem. The rooms were very nice. We had a twin bed room on first floor and had to share a bathroom, but we did not mind. It all worked out well. The Inn is slighly off the beaten path, just slightly - but we enjoyed getting away from the crowded downtown area. The warm morning muffins and croissants were just that - warm and absolutely on time. It was warm and cozy and one of the nice parts of the trip. We would stay again! Hyland

Home for the Halloween Holidays
By Flyingwitch13, 05/25/05
Theres nothing better than staying in travel accomodations that feel like HOME. The Henry Derby House in Salem, MA is just such a place. The propriator is very pleasant, warm and friendly. She has great knowlage of Salem, MA and events and history. She even provides flyers of the city's history, attractions, and haunted Halloween events and maps to them all for your convieience! Breakfast is even served around the family dining room, which gives you the wonderful opportunity to meet your gracious hostess, her affectionate cats who also greet you, and the other guests of this cozy bed & breakfast. It gives you a chance to sit and chat about your different experiences of Salem. You can compare notes of your daily excursions, and get ideas from one another about what to do & what to see next. THere's always something happening in Salem on October, (their BUSY season as you can imagine) and you just might learn about something from your new friends about the city or it's month long Halloween Festival that you hadn't heard about, but would like to experience for yourself! The location is perfect. It's close enough to walk to all of the downtown historic district's attractions, shops and haunted spots, yet just off the main drag enough to allow peace & quiet after a day taking in the sites or a FUN night of Halloween parties! There are 5 rooms, some with shared bathrooms. All are clean, quite comfortable and relaxing with a very easy going, New England feel to them. This is just a perfect and simple choice for a "no stress" vacation for Halloween! The Henry Derby House is also listed on the internet and the Salem,MA city website in case you wanted to see it for yourself! I'll stay there again.

Very cozy, it felt like home
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/13/05
It was very cozy. It was nice to come "home" every night. Beds were comfortable. Wonderful "victorian" experience. Beautiful street with gorgeous houses to walk by. Very friendly owner. Only drawback - the traffic in front of the house was very heavy and a little noisy at night.
