Boston Park Plaza Hotel & Towers, Boston

This place is a disaster waiting to happen. False fire alarms are apparently the norm here at all hours of the night and morning. The bathrooms in pop up campers are more comfortable. There is no discernable ventilation system I could find, and regulating the room temperature is done by opening and closing the drafty antique ill-fitting windows. My bed pillows were covered in long black hairs and bore dirty scuffs around the edges. No wireless internet and a $13 charge if you use their antique cable. Power outlets are circa 1915 if you can find one. The biggest problem I had was the unrelenting noise. The sirens, horns, buses, trucks, and motorcycles are practically in the room with you since the place is drafty and totally un-insulated. It is impossible to sleep in this building at any hour of the day or night. My company foolishly chose to bring 200 of us here for a week and it was an utter disaster. The stairways are dangerous, and the false alarm thing could get someone hurt or killed, as it apparently happens so often that many ignore the warnings. Even the few elevators still in service were not up to contemporary standards, shuddering to scary uneven stops. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this alleged hotel unless you're into masochistic archaeology.

The unprofessional staff informed us that our reservation for 2 nights had been booked as an "afternoon" reservation. While wondering if we had accidentally booked a room at a brothel, we sat and waited 20 minutes in the lobby for her to tell us our double bed accommodation was ready. Unfortunately we had to wait in the lobby yet again after informing the rude associate for the third time that we had booked a room with a queen size bed. After the exhausting inaccuracies at the front desk we were led to our extremely small and dirty room with two double beds pushed together disguised as a king size. The web TV and wireless keyboard were nowhere to be found. We were appalled by the stained walls and carpet, the bloody tissue under the bed, the hairs in the bathtub and the plastic bag taped over the smoke detector. The $40 a day parking, $11 a day internet and the $2.25 bottles of soda accompanied by the complimentary fruit flies and ice complete the list of this "luxury" hotel's undesirable "amenities". We left the Plaza wondering why our room missed out on the $20 million room renovation and comfort upgrades they proudly advertise on their outdated, puffed up website. Unless you don't mind spending $13.50 for a 6 pack of Sierra Mist inconveniently located on the opposite end of this 900+ room atrocity, you will be better off staying at your local Super 8 Motel.

From trouble making the reservation, to not being able to check in at 3 (ended-up getting a room at 4 after persistently being blow-off by the staff for 1.5 hrs), and then being charged for no-show I didn't even book. This was the worst hotel experience to date and I spend 50% of my time in hotels for business. The prices are high and the rooms were modest at best, I'd give a Hampton Inn 10 compared to this place. I'd stay anywhere else than here.

Well, I'll start with the one positive thing about this hotel. It was within walking distance of Grill 23 (the wonderful steak house my boyfriend and I dined at for Valentines Day). With that being said, I'm moving on to the the negatives. We waiting in line to check in for at least 25 minutes (which is inexcusable with what I paid for to stay at this "world renowned hotel" ha!). They (the one person working) told us that they were over booked and offered to put us up in their "sister" hotel, The Westin. For some reason I turned that down, partly because we were exhausted and just wanted to lay down, and the restaurant where we had reservations was in walking distance of this hotel. We went upstairs and went into the room. I instantly had a bad taste in the back of my mouth. The room (and I've stayed at my fair share of nice hotels) was tiny. The bathroom was the smallest thing I had ever seen. I was hoping the view (out the one window) would make up for this terrible start. I opened the shade to find a brick building (which is common in Boston, so I can't complain too much). The gross part was that that window, and it's shade were utterly filthy. I called down to the front desk to say that I'd take up their offer and go to the other hotel. Well, because we stepped foot in the room already, (we were there for under 5 minutes) the deal was off the table. They would have had to send housekeeping up, and lord knows, they couldn't do that! I took a deep breath and dealt with the terrible decision I had made. There was hair on the ceiling in the tiny bathroom. It took us a good 5 minutes to find the hair dryer (which was in the bottom dresser drawer, for anyone that needs to know). There was exposed wires under the heater. The walls were PAPER thin. We heard every movement in the rooms next to us. People slamming doors was what woke us up in the morning. Housekeeping would not leave us alone the following morning. They were loud and rude. Also, with the appearance of our room, they could not do their job. We definitely didn't use the glasses provided, as someone left their fingerprint on it. Overall, I was completely horrified with this room. I will never stay at this hotel again, and will never recommend it to others. Sorry to be harsh, but it was a complete waste of time and money.

We hated this place from the beginning. The bathroom could not even fit an averaged size person!!! Also the staff is VERY rude and unaccomodating. STAY AWAY!!! I would have rather slept in my car.

The lobby and front desk had the feel of a luxurious 5-star hotel, but the room certainly did not. The hallways, carpeting, and doors were old and outdated. The service was great. Another thing I would complain about is the speed of the elevators when the hotel is crowded. We had to wait for a while just to get down to the lobby...

I stayed here the night before the Massachusetts Bar Exam and was really disappointed. The room was small, there was no fan in the bathroom, the coffee maker was broken and when I called to see about getting a new one they didn't respond. The walls were thin and you could hear your neighbors. The room decor leave's much to be desired The location is good and the lobby is nice. Parking costs $40 per day, which is excessive even for Boston. I would recommend that unless you have to stay in downtown Boston, pick a Holiday Inn etc. and you will have a better stay.

I just returned from a 4 night stay at the Park Plaza. I have traveled all over the world and am easy to please with accomodations. I have never felt compelled to write a review before, but everyone should be warned about this hotel. I am also a travel agent. THIS PLACE IS THE WORST! Do not even consider this hotel if you like friendly staff and clean rooms. We got a "deluxe" room with two bathrooms. The bathrooms date back to a time long ago and are so small you can hardly turn around in the shower, and if you do, the shower curtain immediately adheres to your body. It was complete with hair on the toilet seat and a dirty toilet bowl. I wanted to wear sandals in the shower. The maid service was terrible; the heater did not work. Our room overlooked the area in between the two hotel "blocks", which had beer cans and a dirty sheet someone had thrown out of the window. All of that might have been bearable had the staff been just a bit accomodating. Not once in 4 days did we get or see a smile on the face of ANY employee from the desk staff to the concierge to the bar to the absolutely worthless and disgruntled doorman. In addition, they charged a $200 deposit upfront because we wanted to pay CASH. At 3 am one morning a drunk man tried to kick our door in, and nearly succeeded as the doors are a bit rickety. The very next morning a group of trumpet players on convention there fired up the band at 7:30 am, waking everyone in the hotel. Total lack of consideration for the guests. The inroom movies did not work ($12.95 charge)just to add insult to the situation. Oh yes, and internet connection is $12.98 per day. The ONLY good thing about the hotel is the location. What a jewel they could have if they would clean up their act... and the hotel...and the staff. It was such a downer to come back to that place after a pleasant day in Boston. We couldn't wait to leave....

We stayed here midweek while in town and were very, very pleased with the comfort level of both the room and the hotel as a whole. It's a big place, and could easily be just another big hotel in the middle of a big city, but the service was personable and friendly. We loved the beds! Amazing mattresses and perfect pillows...something not lost on these frequent travelers. The view we had was fine, but some of the rooms facing toward the city would obviously have great scenery. I would like such a large hotel to get their rates closer to $300/night, but we paid around $370 with taxes. But we made up for it with the awesome location in the Back Bay near the Garden and some nice places to eat. Legal Seafoods is around the corner, and we found an awesome deli - Croissant Dujour - in the building across the street serving cheap and delicious breakfast sandwiches and pastry and coffee. We ate there a couple of times and saved a ton of $$. There are other things to do in the immediate area, too - we didn't go on the duck boat tour but we heard someone talk about how they had a nice time. We preferred walking down Newbury Street and looking at all the unique shops. We would consider staying here again in a heartbeat.

I stayed at Boston Park Plaza Hotel for a week, in an upgrade Tower Room. For over $300 a day, I couldn’t even get hot water for shower in the morning. I also experienced billing error and loss of item at my room. The staff was trying to help, but the hotel is so overwhelmed with problems that they either couldn’t do anything or did not care. I checked out with an erroneous invoice, and the security manager (service manage was not in on duty) promised that a fax copy of the revised invoice will be faxed to me. As of today (more than one week later), I am still waiting for the correct invoice. I emailed the security manager; she did not reply. I called the security manager and the hotel, and nobody picked up the phone at the front desk, or at the accounting. Apparently, nobody cares in the hotel once you leave. The lesson I learned from spending more than $2k? Stay away from Boston Park Plaza Hotel!
