Wouldn't Choose This Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/20/06
Because my husband and I have two young children, we opted to stay in one of the suites. The suites are located next door to the rest of the hotel. This wasn't a real problem, except that it was quite a walk to the breakfast room all the way on the other side of the property. The "continental breakfast" was terrible. I hadn't experienced the doughnut/mini muffin/coffee continental breakfast in years. I guess I've been spoiled by all of the other hotels that now offer real breakfast choices - little boxes of cereal, toast, fruit, yogurt, etc. It wasn't worth the walk over, so for the rest of the trip we journeyed out to the local breakfast places in town.
The room offered a typical suite kitchen - complete with a large refrigerator, oven, microwave, coffee maker, dishwasher, etc. Had I felt like cooking, I would have bought groceries and made meals for my kids. It's handy to have everything right there, though, but if you're not in the mood to prepare food it's a waste.
The bed was very uncomfortable. It was not a queen size bed like I was told. Believe me, I know because we have a queen bed at home. This was a double bed and was a little bit tight for my husband and me. Also, the mattress was uncomfortable. We didn't sleep much, needless to say. Also, the air conditioner is located in the main room. The bedroom became very warm at night, even with the bedroom door open.
I was told that there was Internet access in the room and brought my laptop, as a result. Everywhere else that I have stayed charged $10 or so to hook up to the Internet. At the Ogunquit Resort, you are charged as if you are making a long-distance call. No thanks! Long distance calls from hotel rooms cost a fortune! I couldn't use the computer in the main office, either, because it was out of order during our stay.
I didn't really care about the decor in the room, but if you are judging what your room will look like by the resort's brochure then don't. There were no pictures on the wall - nothing whatsoever. The television was on a little stand in the corner of the room. The sofa was a futon, and there was one chair.
The resort's location was very average. You can't really walk to the shops and restaurants on main street if you have kids with you (The resort's on busy Route 1). Plan on driving a couple of miles and paying to park.
I can't speak to the regular rooms, which may very well be more comfortable. Just think twice before staying in one of the suites if you are used to places like Hilton's Homewood Suites or Hampton Suites (There is a new one that is just opening right in Ogunquit - We had hoped to stay there, but it wasn't going to be open in time. I totally recommend Hampton Suites!).
