Very Disappointed!!!!

My wife, kids and I had a great vacation until we got to the Quality Inn Bar Harbor. Pulled into town late in the afternoon to find a hotel. Checked in at front desk, paid for the room (credit card) and then went into town for dinner and walked the shops.
Got back to the hotel about 9:30pm. Opened door to the room (for the first timee) and was hit with the strong odor of dissinfectants. Immediately went to the office and told them the room was not acceptable due to the strong odor. They wanted to argue. I advised I was cancelling the room and we would be going somewhere else. They refused to "void" the credit card charge, saying, "You're Credit Card company will side with us". I told them I wasn't going to argue, that the room was not acceptable and that we were going to find somewhere else. They said they would not void the charge because that was their policy. I told them it was my policy not to pay for something I did not receive.
Long Story short- The billed me for the room we could not/did not use due to the odor. I called them on 7/28/06 and explained everything to Brendon. He seemed sympathetic and asked if he could place me on hold. He came back on the line and said, "I'm sorry, there is nothing else I can do".
I asked if he was refusing to void the charge for a room we could not use and he said, "You had the room for 4 hours", When I tried to explain that we went to dinner immediately after checking in and that, when we did return, we were in the room for less than 10 seconds! Brendon's reply was that there was nothing else he could do. So now I continue the battle via my credit card company.
PS: We wound up going to the Ledgelawn Inn that night. Beautiful & quaint hotel. Nice odor free room, great staff, continental breakfast the next morning. Loved it and would highly recommend it!
If you decide to try the Quality Inn Bar Harbor, check the room before you pay for it!
