Travelodge Iowa City, Iowa City

Having read the previous reviews, I wasn't expecting much. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Nice people, clean, modern building, nice pool, great rates.

We stayed in room 132. When we stepped in the doorway, the carpet was wrinkled from wear and it was wet! My wife was in socks and they got soaked! The bathroom sink fixtures were free or loose from the sink. The outdoor light fixtures were loose from the wall and not working. We were there only one night for an anniversary celebration. I didn't take my clothes or shoes off and slept in the recliner. My nephew booked a bunch of rooms for visitors, but they showed him the only "show room" they had! Ours and another of the party said there room was very bad also. We paid $63.84, I wish I would have paid $100 at a different motel! Like another person said, what a joke!

I'm fairly laid back and easy to satisfy, but this place was disgusting. The rooms and the hallways at the Travelodge in Iowa City literally stink. The matresses, upholstered furniture, draperies and carpet were stained with huge yellow/brown streaks, even the wall paper was stained. The door handle and lock assembly to the balcony were busted. The railing on our second floor balcony was broken, even missing a few slats. The bathroom was even nastier, use your imagination, yes that bad. Couldn't stomach using the shower. This will go into the record books as one of the worst, ..I have proof in pictures! The cleaning staff of middle eastern origin do not speak English. I immediately returned to the front desk to ask for a refund which I was denied. When I asked to be moved to another room, I was told there weren't any singles available and there would be an additional charge to move me to a double. After pleading my case to the clerk, I was told that their cleaning staff is underpaid and have become rebelious. I was told the General Manager, Joey Sable, would call me about my concerns. 2 weeks have passed, I have not yet received a phone call from Mr. Sable. Although, I did receive a free night voucher that went straight in the trash. What a joke!

I am 27 and don't have back issues but the mattress was horrible and made my back hurt. There were pubic hairs on the bathroom floor and in the shower. When I called the front desk he moved me to another room, whith a dirty bathroom floor. There was a balcony, and the door to go out to it had a half inch gap under it. I did get a 10% discount when I checked out the next day. The morning desk attendant cared more about the issue than the person who was there the previous afternoon. Had a two noght reservation and checked out to go pay double for another hotel. . . It was worth it!!!

Had reservations for a King Non Smoking Room. Arrived and they informed me that we would be staying in a SMOKING ROOM. Got into the room and immediately our clothing picked up the smoke smell. The hallways were absolutely dirty. The room was dirty. The staff at the desk informed us that they couldn't do anything without the Manager. Of course the Manager wouldn't be in until around 9:00 o'clock the next morning. Travelodge says satisfaction guaranteed. The manager wouldn't do anything in regards to this situation. Finally after calling Expedia and complaining, they would reduce the price by the amount of $10.00 (WOW). Tell me if that is Satisfaction Guaranteed. The cost of the room was $84.00 + Tax. In a brochure, it shows the rooms being $45.00. That is about what these rooms are worth. Extended variety breakfast w/ fresh baked belgium waffles is a direct quote from their website. If they call that an extended variety breakfast, a few donuts, bread for toast, two types of cereal and coffee, I guess that I don’t understand extended variety. Being involved in education at the secondary level allows me a great opportunity to inform students about different business situation to not become involved in. Staying at this motel will be at the top of my list.

Decent size rooms, they are renovating. Good size pool and jacuzzi. Breakfast was good. Beds are older, but they are replacing them. Definitely a good place for the money. We are going back this weekend. Has free internet too.
