Worst hotel stay ever!!!
By Zeke, 03/02/09
Where do I begin? OK, there was no internet connectivity in our room. The little "tent" type placard on the desk said to call an 888 number for someone called "Answer IT" if you need help 24/7. I called and when I gave them the required info, they told me the hotel had no service contract with them! I called the hotel desk twice and was told that maintenance would "re-set the thing upstairs". Well, that made no difference. I went to the desk and was told I had to log-on AT the desk and then walk back to my room. I did so and by the time I got back to my room the connection was gone again. To access internet I had to sit in my car.
When I questioned the Answer IT placard and the lack of support, I was told that the placard was probably left over from when the hotel was a Holiday Inn. I then asked, "how long has it been Clarion?" She said "one year"!!!!! Holey-Moley!!! Didn't anyone notice and think to remove these placards? She said she has never stayed at this hotel and has no idea if the placards are in other rooms. She then suggested that the weather may have been the culprit for lack of connectivity. When I challenged that she admitted that she didn't know what the weather had been like in Anderson, since she had just gotten back from South Carolina!. She also tried to throw the housekeepers under the bus, stating that they have no idea what should or shouldn't be in the room!
There was no fridge in the room. Every room I found online for this hotel listed a fridge in room. Also, no microwave. The coffee maker was there, along with the grounds from the last guests pot of coffee AND their empty sugar & creamer wrappers.
Whew! I needed a drink. Of course, the ice machine in our building wasn't producing or dispensing. I went to the desk and was told to go out the door at the extreme rear of the building (I was in the front, of course) to another building and there I would find ice! It was really cold that night. I was fuming.
When we went to bed, we realized there was no air/heater, just a switch on the wall that said "Hi, Off or Lo". We could barely breath by mid night and opening the door only let in the Chlorine scented air from the pool area.
Be advised: the exterior doors are open all night. They have no locks on them. There is no security at all, no cameras, etc. One exterior room had the picture window busted out.
The indoor pool entry doors were designed to open with a key card swipe, however, the locks mechanisms were missing. Talk about a disaster waiting to happen! The pool water is bath warm, however, the air in the pool area (which is like a big atrium) is freezing. The maintenance guy kept opening the door to the outdoor pool and every timer he did everyone in the indoor pool screamed. My kids got blue lips from the air, not the water. I also noticed that the outdoor pool was filled with filthy, frozen water! This was February 28 - March 1, 2009!
As previous writers (see Expedia, etc.) have pointed out, this hotel needs to be thoroughly cleaned, repaired and painted.
Breakfast was standard, only the woman drenching the kids waffles with syrup was an issue.
I would recommend this hotel ONLY as a last resort.
You can ignore the little satisfaction thing that you'll find on the desk. It says something like "satisfaction made simple". Yet, they were not able to satisfy and of these issues. In fact, they made it seem like it was just someone else's fault (like ours, the weathers or the housekeepers)
