Would rather not go back..
By ,
Overall I did not have a good experience with Pagoda Hotel. I stayed in the Terrace on the third floor, overlooking what I assumed to be the parking lot. These horribly ugly plastic shutters they had blocked out the actual view (possibly a good thing), but the actual blinds did not block out sunlight. Could I sleep in? No. Did I want to? Not really, as the beds were uncomfortable and somewhat disgusting. They had no proper linens. The sheet that they used on the bed did not fit (it wasn't meant to) and this piece of cloth went under it to make the sheet appear as if it wasn't see-through. This was poorly done, as the cloth was also too small for the bed. The bed sheet continually came out of place showing the disgusting mattress. :( Other than the horrible bed, the noise was another contributing factor to poor sleep while staying at the hotel. Loud dirty AC was irritating. Even worse was the constantly PARTY in the parking lot, until late at night. Sometimes children screaming and playing. One night while my fiance and I came back late, we saw this party (and parked underground, away from it) as these people were all drinking and just hanging out. The police, who were almost constantly outside the hotel or at least a block away clearly did not care. I encountered many "interesting" characters if I tried to walk around. Streets were fairly dirty, especially side streets further away from the Ala Mona. The proximity to the mall was good. Waikiki wasn't a far drive. The Kitchenette had really limited supplies, and required creativity to make any sort of meal (which I wanted, as I love to cook). Knife was dull. Had a coffee pot and 1 free coffee. I love coffee but I did not find any appeal in this shifty hotel's coffee. The bathroom was okay--except for the shower. Unless you turned it on just right it would juggle between ICE COLD and BURNING HOT. Even if you managed to get it right, it was still cold then hot, and not satisfying. The water made my hair feel a little gross. House keeping was alright. I didn't get housekeeping every day, and kept it clean on my own. When I made a bit of a mess but wanted it clean I let them in, and they did not do as good of a job as my quick tidying. Though they fixed the disaster of a bed every time and made it sort of look as if it were comfortable. They don't wash your dishes, which is okay. But they didn't clean the counter except for brsuhing off some crumbs. There was some mess on the counter the first day I got in, too... :( They get bonus points for not stealing anything. When I talked to the room service ladies they were nice. The men who worked around there were frightening to me. So were some of the guests. The people at the front desk were okay.. At one point I went in to complain about getting a parking ticket even though we paid. Apparently the parking next to the restaurant isn't for the hotel. Fine--our fault. I didn't fight him, and he gave me a sympathetic look but said nothing. I had no idea there were other parking lots when I first got there. Lastly, the pools often had loud children and I didn't go in. Koi pond was not as very beautiful. Ala Mona mall has better koi ponds... It was cheap, and I guess that makes it.. okay. Paid 61 a night + tax. + 9 dollar a day parking. +40-ish dollars for a week of internet.+10 dollar movie. Over all, not worth it.

Horrible stay
By ,
Our room 465 was in terrible condition and very very dirty, stains and mold in bathroom. Towels are not fit for a dog. Beds falling apart. Not a child friendly room. Dresser is so stink that you cannot place any clothing in them. The chair cover is torn to shreds. Bed mattress is hanging under the bed and very dirty. Took a lot of pictures if anyone wants to see them. Went to complain and offered another room but we didn't take it because we had a very important meeting to go to. I asked to have the bathroom scrubed but it didn't happen. Would not recommend this hotel!!!!!!! If I knew where to post the pictures I took I would post it.

Glad to Be Back!
By ,
I've brought my family from Kauai to Honolulu many times since the early 80's. Pagoda was always the place to be. In the past 3-4 years we heard some negative things about the place so we stayed at several other hotels on the island. This past weekend, we stayed there overnight. Now it's just my husband & I and we were so pleased with the renovated room and the helpfulness & friendliness especially from the housekeeping staff. It was a please to be there and we will definitely back. I felt like I was home again and he felt comfortable too for a man who would rather be at home in his castle than anywhere else now thats a compliment! All I can say is that you are like us and have been staying away due to the negative publicity that was going around... Give it another shot, I'm sure you won't regret it!

Pagoda Hotel is worth the money
By ,
While this hotel is older and could use some updates it is also clean and comfortable. It was centrally located and within walking distance of many great restarants and you could be at the beach in 10 minutes. If what you wanted to see was not within walking distance you could hop a trolley for a small fee and get just about anywhere. The staff were friendly and accommodating. There was a smile on every face and knowlegable answers to our questions. My wife and I are looking forward to our next trip to Honolulu and will stay at the Pagoda.

Won't be back.
By ,
Stayed at this hotel a number of times many, many years ago (when it was a lot "newer"). The hotel is notable for its central and convenient location--away from touristy, overcrowded Waikiki. Spoke to their toll-free reservations agents twice, as I was having problems booking their online special, online. It turns out that one night of our three-night stay was not available at the special rate, however the reservations agent offered us the discounted rate for the other two nights. I booked the room. Check-in was fine, but the room was a disappointment. The hotel has become rundown and musty, with an a/c unit that was old and dirty (looked like black mold on the vents, but it wouldn't wipe off so I don't know what it was). Refrained from using the a/c unit that night despite warm, muggy weather. Moved to another room the next day, but it was much the same. There was one great experience in favor of the cleaning staff though: we had forgotten a package in the first room, realizing our mistake sometime later while we were away from the hotel. Called the hotel, and the cleaning staff graciously transferred the package to our new room. Check-out is where our experience nose dived. The bill contained charges that were less than rack rates, but NOT what was quoted (a paltry additional $4 per night). I pointed it out to the clerk as an afterthought, fully prepared to let it slide...UNTIL the clerk's response, which was worse than rude, practically accusing me of LYING (for a whopping $8!). Incensed, I asked for the manager, who turned out to be almost as bad. He did relent and offer the additional discount, but by then I refused. Didn't care about the meager $8, but to imply that I'm lying--that's inexcusable. So the hotel got their "unearned," extra $8 this time, but we won't be back, and we continue to advise others to go elsewhere. As other reviewers have noted, the front desk staff leave much to be desired. Hotel check-out is the last and LASTING impression of the hotel.

Luke Warm Reception
By ,
My husband and I have stayed at the Pagoda before and had no major complaints, so we decided to book a room again while our home was being treated for termites. Since we were at Jamba Juice, we decided to just walk over there, enjoy the fish pond, and do the arrangements while we were there. The pool scene was reminiscent of a budget motel in the middle of Nowhere. The woman at the front desk could neither book a room for us, nor provide us with much information beyond the fact that the rooms started at $150 per night. She directed us to a small glassed-in area with house phones and instructed us to call reservations. We did. We were put on hold. I returned to the front desk and asked another woman some questions about the accomodations. She demonstrated little or no enthusiasm and again told me to just call reservations. We're sorry to have bothered you. Our family is going to spend our $150 on a fancy dinner that night instead. Then we're going camping!

everything was wonderful except for their employees????
By ,
i like this hotel because, its close to the shopping mall, like ala moana, ross, wallmart, and there were alot of food place out there that is close by, it could of been good and a perfect vacation for me and my husband, but then one of the employee gave us a hardtime we were just taking pictures at the pool and he came to us and say the pool were close and were not allowed to take pictures there, but come on now its our last night and we just want a souveniers from our hotel it not like we were swimming, they should make the pool hours open till 10pm because people need to swim at night, but if i get to go back i would go again just as long i dont need to deal with that guy again!!!!!!!!

Always my pick!
By ,
I love this place. Being a kamaaina, I really don't like staying in Waikiki. It's too crowded and parking can be a hassle. Pagoda is close to Waikiki but more convenient. Ala Moana, Wal-Mart, Ross plus an assortment of places to eat are all in walking distance. Parking is no trouble. The rooms are clean and perfect. I haven't had any problems ever. There's also a great restaurant on the property. This is one place that I will keep going back to.

Nice, low key lodgings
By ,
My parents like to stay at this hotel for its good rates, good location, and decent rooms. Terrace rooms offer more variety with studios and two bedrooms w/kitchenette options. The Tower portion of the hotel is located over the Pagoda Restaurant and its koi ponds. Parking is either in the small lot immediately adjacent to the Tower elevators or in the upper levels of the parking garage shared by the Ross store across the street. There is a fee for parking which you can pay through the hotel desk.

GREAT! Kamaaina affordable hotel!
By ,
My husband and I just went to have dinner at their floating restaurant, which by the way was an excellent buffet. Feeling stuffed, I told my husband why don't we spend the night at the Pagoda. He agreed, why not try to see if we could get a room. Well, I did stop in at the reservation desk and the clerk there was very accommodating, I got a great rate being an HGEA member. We got our room and was very pleased. It had a queen size bed, clean and very nice. We had not anticipated this spur of the moment overnighter, so we walked across the street to Ross's & Walmart for some clothes. It was fun being a tourist, even if it was only for the night. In the morning we walked over to Daiei, which is another walking distance store. It was just super to just have an affordable, clean, hotel within walking distance of so many stores, as well as being so close to Ala Moana shopping center. I'm glad we stayed at the Pagoda, now I know why so many outer island kamaainas love this hotel too, its within walking distance to everything. I would truly recommend this hotel to anyone.
