Quiet, Safe, Reasonable
By Mimo, 3/22/09
I visit this hotel several times because of the location. It's on Kalakaua, main street in Waikiki, very close to Ala Moana. 5 minute walk through the park leads me to beach. Bus stop is almost in front of the hotel. Friday night, you can see fireworks. Hotel itself is clean and all staff are friendly and know what the Aloha spirit is. I usually stay at a city view room because of the budget. Also, I don't want to cook when I am traveling. However, I could see the ocean over the park. All rooms have a regular size kitchen sink, which enabled me to cut fruits or made salad comfortably. It is not a gorgeous resort hotel. If you are too old to go see around, too busy to stay a week, I never recomend it. However, if you are a person who likes taking The Bus rather than taking a tour bus with a guide, who likes shopping at both down town and brand boutiques, Luana Waikiki is one of the best hotel in the area. I was there last Christmas, and came across blackout. No panic. All staff were well trained and the guests seemed very calm.

Quickie
By JetPlt, 11/8/07
Got in late and left early the next morning. Quick checkin. Lobby was nice and clean. Room was quiet. Only thing negative would be the lack of complementary coffee in the lobby downstairs and no breakfast provided. Also, the only hotel I have ever stayed in that does not have carpet or rugs. The floors in the rooms were tile!!!

Loved it!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/8/07
Very, no EXTREMELY nice hotel! Great location, just not really close to the beach a lot! Still, we saw the Pan-Pacific Parade from our balcony! VERY fun and enjoyable!

Better than expected
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/1/07
We picked this hotel from reviews and were a bit worried that it wouldn't live up to the hype. It did. It is a great hotel. We had a one bedroom suite. The rooms were comfortable and the kitchen was equipped fully. We ate our breakfasts in the room and snacked on some of that fabulous fresh pineapple. It is a few blocks from the beach, but it is a very pleasant walk through a beautiful park to get there. We exercised in the park daily. The beach was wonderful and not crowded as it is on Waikiki. It was very convenient to the convention center (where my husband was). It was easy to get around the area. The Seattle's Best coffee shop at the front was a big hit with us as well. The staff was very helpful and the room was kept very clean. We would definitely stay here again. My grown daughter is already planning a girls trip back to Honolulu and plans on staying at the Outrigger Luana again.

Hawaii with 80 Year Old
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/8/07
Outrigger Luana Waikiki was very convenient, easy to find, clean rooms, and good value. It is a short walk thru the park to the beach. Parking is limited and extra $$ and a very tight fit! Desk gave us extra coffee and the small refrigerator is a plus. Across the street are 2 great places--an ABC store which has essentials and a few groceries and the KEO's Restaurant, a great place to eat (dinner and breakfast), so go there! Three adults had plenty of room and even tho our room was on the 2nd floor and near the street, it was quiet. We would return for another visit.

Good for a budget
By k., 12/22/06
If you're on a budget, this is a good place to stay. Positives: The room was very clean, there was a nice lanai, the day time front desk staff was very polite and helpful, there's a small refrigerator to keep snacks. Negatives: You do your own dishes (the cleaning people won't touch them), the concierge was not helpful, the night time front desk people were rude, you walk about two and a half blocks to the beach. (I know two and a half blocks doesn't sound like much, but when you start wandering around other hotels and see them right on the beach, well..!), no amenities (i.e., restaurant in the hotel). Overall, I wouldn't tell anyone not to stay here, but I would probably put out the extra money to stay somewhere where there are nicer amenities and which is closer to the beach. One last thing: we were on the first floor...don't let them put you there! we had NO view. Ask for 4th floor or higher.

It wasn't the worst and it wasn't the best
By SHIMI, 10/24/06
It was walking distance from the tourists spots in waikiki, but the room we were in was to close the noisy street. The service was very helpful. The rooms need some wall cleaning and door cleaning.

bait and switch
By margor, 8/28/06
we had booked a night here as we arrived late the day before our resort. We had booked with skyauction, had print-outs etc. in hand! They had no record etc. etc. We ended up paying full price for a modest room, then had to dispute charges on credit card! Of note: On a previous HNL trip we had a smilar experience with another waikeke hotel... AFter booking, ALWAYS call the hotel and confirm and get a name! YOu have no leverage when you arrive in the middle of the night, and they 'lose' your confirmation.

Cant wait to go back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/21/06
We stayed at the Outrigger Luana back when it was the Waikiki Terrace-about four years ago. We had reserved a standard hotel room with city views, but when we arived our room wasnt ready yet so they upgraded us to park/ocean view! Our stay was great, very friendly and helpful service for our first trip to the island. The bellboys helped us put up the top on the jeep many times! The hotel is in a fantastic location and an nice short walk to the beach. It is on the main strip with everything right there, but the hotel was suprisingly quiet! The only thing we didnt check out was the pool, but we prefer the beach.. We will be going back in a few months and cant wait to check out the new look! You get more than what you pay for at this great hotel!
