THE HOTEL FROM HELL!!
By Guest, 11/13/11
This was the WORST hotel I've ever stayed in! The service was TERRIBLE & the rooms were disgusting & appeared to not have ever been cleaned! We booked a room that was supposed to have a king bed & pull out sofa & it only had a king bed. The staff had no idea about the rooms & what was in them. They were out of cots for us when they are the one's that couldn't provide what we thought we were getting. We were also unaware that we were in a smoking room. I will NEVER go near that hotel or recommend it to anyone!

The absolute worst hotel I have ever stayed in
By PaitonC, 5/9/11
My husband and I typically stay at "bargain" hotels and usually are pleased with the accommodations. This hotel was inexpensive, but I would have preferred to stay in my car for free. At first sight, I was a little concerned, but my concern grew when the manager was checking us in, he mentioned that they were in the process of renovations and that was the reason why we may not find things as they should be. Yikes - hardly anything was as it should be! The carpet was stained, the sheets had burn holes in them, the room smelled like smoke even though we asked for non-smoking room, the shower did not drain when you used it, the faucet was loose on the sink and leaked water everywhere. The window looked like it was cracked but it was just the tint on the glass that was cracked. There was no extra latch on the door except for the flimsy dead bolt. The room had an adjoining door that did not shut completely between the other room next door. It did have an extra chain and bolt there, but I didn't really trust either. I had to prop the desk chair at the front door to keep it jammed securely. And then in the middle of the night, the people in the room next door might as well have been in our room because we could hear them crystal clear through the adjoining door. I will never, ever stay in an Americas Best Inn again - Athens, GA or anywhere. Nightmare!!! Do yourself a huge favor and do not book a room here. I don't buy that they have plans for renovations and the pictures of the guest rooms on their website are not accurate. Our carpet was pink and there was no wallpaper border on the walls.

This is the worst ever.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/27/10
My husband and I were touring georgia and happened upon Athens when there was a match going on and was very busy. We pulled into the Best American and booked a room, everything looked ok in reception. The first thing that hit us when we went into the room was a very strong chemical smell, wasn't too unpleasant but couldn't work out what it was until I took my shoes off and my feet was wet, the'd been cleaning the carpet and it was wet through, yuk.. Looking round the room was filthy, from the telephone to the mirrors to everything. Couldn't understand why they'd cleaned the carpet just in one big patch until the next morning when I walked along the walk way and saw that a few of the tenants had been leaning over the balcony and I really don't want to discribe to you what they had been doing. its making me feel ill thinking about it. then I got to thinking about the wet carpet, say no more? I really didn't feel like breakfast there or anywhere after our experience. When I got to our next motel I took my clothes out of our case and they all smelled of the carpet smell, really strong, I had to visit the laundrette? So to sum up if your passing and thinking of staying don't just go on past. I don't know about Americas best should be Americas worst. I'll look twice next time I need motel room. Don't be fooled by the stars I gave it wouldn't post until I'd given it a rating. Jackie. Leeds. England

Grossest place I've ever stayed in my life!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/20/08
The room was nasty and dirty with dead bugs in the tub, toilet paper holder pulled off the wall, blankets felt like sandpaper. Had the nerve to charge $100.00 a night due to Ga. Bulldogs game but it was our only option. Do NOT stay here. Almost slept in car due to the FILTH!!!!

DON'T STAY HERE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/22/08
There is one good review out there about this place and it's totally false. It was probably written by the owner. We drove up after making the reservation online and it didn't look good. The building was dirty, the roof next to the check in office was leaking something, but I'm not sure what since it hadn't rained all day. There was astro turf carpeting that was coming up in several places. There were several men just hanging around in the parking lot so we decided not to stay. We went inside and tried to be polite and explain that we decided not to stay after all. They were rude and charged us for the room anyways. Avoid a huge headache and stay somewhere else.

Fire hazard
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/2/06
My family reserved a king room with sofa bed and jacuzzi. When we arrived, the room was a king with no sofa and no jacuzzi. The desk manager was rude and arguementative. He finally brought us a roll-away bed (worn mattress over plywood). It was so filthy all three of us in the family refused to use it, and slept in the one terrible bed. In the middle of the night the smoke alarm started chirping and the desk did not answer the phone. The a/c worked, but there was ugly mold all over the underside. But the worst, was the five appliances hooked up to one outlet (tv, refrig, microwave, etc). A real fire hazard. We had a two night reservation and left after one night. Since I used Amex, they did charge only for one night (after I threatened them). NEVER STAY HERE!

Not a chance I will return
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/14/05
Before I begin, please understand that I know this motel is NOT a 5-star hotel, but our experience was terrible. First, we were overcharged, it was only by $6, but it was still more than what I was quoted. At check in, the desk man took my printed (personal) vacation plans that had all our conf #'s, maps, and car rental info (including cc #'s) and stood behind the glass reading through all of it. This may sound petty, but added in with the rest of the issues, it bothered me. On to the room itself, it was nasty. The bathroom had not been cleaned, as there were pieces of toilet tissue, a shampoo lid, and a dirty q-tip on the floor. This only leads me to wonder how clean the rest of the room really was. (keep in mind, we arrived at 2:30am after a 18 hr drive, and I had not discovered any of this until the next morning, otherwise I would have changed rooms then or just not stayed at all) The last issue is what concerns me the most, at about 11:30pm the next night (oh yeah, we had prepaid for 2 nights since that was what was confirmed, and told no refunds are available)the smoke alarm starts going off, my 15yr old nephew goes to the office for help while my husband & I try to stop the awful beeping, and returns with this response: "I cannot help", needless to say, I am then calling the front desk, apparently we were interruping or annoying the person on duty, as I was greeted with a deep sigh, and am told to remove the battery. At this point I am livid. It took us the better part of 20 minutes to get this to stop, as removing the battery, somehow did not rectify the situation. I found that the hotel management was not concerned for our, or the other guests safety, and obviously was not worried about the possibility of the place burning down. When we checked out I questioned the overcharges, and asked for a manager to discuss the stay,I was told he was not available until the next day,and he was the only one who could help me. We then moved on to Howard Johnson up the street for our last 2 nights in town, and could not have asked for better service. My advice to anyone visiting Athens, drive right past America's Best Inns, and dont look back!

Maybe Not
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/17/05
If you're looking for a bargain, this place is just okay. The sheets, towels, and bathroom were clean, but that's about it. I had to pay in advance for the 4 nights and then when I checked out one day early, the manager on duty didn't know if I was due a refund, or not, so I had to call back later and then drive back by there for the refund.
