Good Location, but you get what you pay for
Several of the other reviews I read seemed like they set their expectations too high for this hotel. It is a two star hotel that costs less than $100 per night on south beach with an easy walk to Lincoln Road. That said, this place would be a great disappointment if I had paid $150 or above. But I didn't, I went for the best price for the location and I was relatively pleased. The Good:
The location is great. The room was comfortable and decently well maintained. Everything worked and I had shabby but comfortable enough accomadations.
The Bad:
The staff, as many other reviews have commented on, is terrible, and I had low expectations. Additionally, they charge an extra $2 per day to have a safe in your room, an option you can't decline and it is not included in the price when you book online. Also, parking was a nightmare. You chose between the hotel's $18 per day valet service that leaves you spending a large amount of time waiting or paying a dollar an hour (in quarters) at the metered lot across the street, which filled up on Saturday night and left me driving around for another spot for quite a while.
In the End:
If you want a cheap place to crash in an excellent location, this is your type of hotel. If you are picky or discerning or are looking to be wowed, stay at the Mandrin Oriental for $500.00 a night, I hear its worth it.
