sleep deprived

We booked and confirmed 4 rooms for our children's families and ourselves this Easter. Only half of our confirmations were honored. The 2 rooms we had for confired for Thursday evening were not available for our group until the following day. Our son's family and daughter's family had to spend that night in another hotel. The hotel staff was understanding of our MAJOR dissapointment and did compensate us for this. Unfortunately our rooms were not together as we were told they would be when making the reservation. The thing that made this worse was that the room next to us had a large group of people that made a lot of noise until 2:30 both Friday and Satuday evenings. This kept made it very hard for us and our daughter's family, that was close to our room, to sleep. The soundproofing in the rooms is not very effective! The grounds are beautiful and well kept. The staff works hard to keep them that way.

Won't be back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/09/08
The resort itself was beautiful and clean enough. Our issue was with the noise factor and the 2 beach bars right next door. They played music from 2p through 1a. It was like trying to sleep in a college dorm. There was constant drumming, base notes and screaming. There were also times on the beach where I could not hear the water due to the live music. It was not at all tranquil, as advertised. If you go, make sure your room is on the Tradewinds side of the resort, the noise didn't seem to be as much of a factor on that side. Management acknowledged the noise issue and state they get constant complaints about. It was not all worth the small fortune we paid to be there. Also, with $25/day resort ammenities fee, I thought they had gall to charge me $2 to print our boarding passes for our return trip home. Talk about nickel and diming.

Great Choice!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/03/08
I stayed at the Sandpiper with my mom and sister for spring break and absolutely loved it!!! The staff was very helpful && the chocolate slushies from the poolside bars are absolutely amazing!!! It was nice having a separate pool for kids and adults, even though I'm still a teenager myself. The hotel did a great job of keeping little kids out of the hottub and even questioned my sister and I as to whether we were 18. We weren't but of course we still said we were considering we're 16 and 17 years old. I would advise that you get in line at the cabana booking table at least 10 minutes before it opens in order to pick a front row cabana because they offer a much nicer view. They even have 3 internet-connected computers to use in the main lobby. Staff was very knowledgable and helpful. Sandpiper also had great activities and restaurants nearby to check out. The coffee bar Perks Up is way overpriced for such average coffee and muffins. Another thing that was bad was that the maids took forever to get around to cleaning all the rooms. They moved slowly, but at least the hotel was clean. Also, two pair of my mom's sunglasses "mysteriously" came up missing from our hotel room during one of the first few days we were there. Some friends of ours stayed at Island Grand that same week and I was so grateful that we chose to stay at Sandpiper instead. Island Grand is more expensive, has cramped rooms, and is just overall crowded. It also has way too many kids running around to be able to relax. I see no point in staying at Island Grand when you can have a better experience staying at Sandpiper and still be able to use all of the Island Grand amenities.

This was such an unexpected delight! We will be going back often for a weekend getaway!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/27/07
Our room was awesome! The view was breathtaking ( 6th floor--beach view) the place was immaculate! It was quiet, beautifully decorated, affordable, comfortable and met every need we could have and beyond. The staff was friendly and helpul, the beach was gorgeous, and we had access to the Island Grand facilities! It was a bit too "busy" over at the other Tradewind, so we enjoyed the ammenities during a portion of the day, but chose the peaceful evenings and days at the Sandpiper. We will be back, again and again. All thumbs up here from my daughters and myself!Even though we live in FL, we still need a little get-away. We have found it in the Sandpiper!

Smokey
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/22/07
Great location, most of the staff extremely friendly, nice rooms, and great pool and beach access. The three concerns were the additional "admentity fee", smokey smell, and the house keeping. An additional admentiy fee or resort fee was charged as we checked in. This should either be optional or included in the room rate, rather than a hidden charge. The major drawback was the smokey smell coming from ajoining rooms, balconies, and walkways in this "smoke-free" environemnt. We are not typically smoke sensivtive but this was unbearable and woke us up in the night. Room was dirty when we checked in; a open full pop can on the balcony and a sock left behind. The house keeping did an average job and completely skipped our room one day. Another minor annoyance was that everytime the TV was turned on a "used car" salesman type would advertise movies, video games, interent service, music that all could be purchased for additional charge. It would have been nice to be greeted with some sort of overview of the area and what if has to offer instead of a nickel and diming salesman.

Amazing!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/07/07
I loved this hotel.. they just remodeled so everything looks really nice.. the front desk staff are very friendly if you are friendly with them.. the employees really made our vacation a great one.. the rooms are very nice- but always pay the extra money to have a suite because the standard rooms are tiny. the resort aminity fee was explained throughly with reservations and had alot of things we used- just the beach cabanas are $30 if you dont have the resort aminity package.. the food was amazing- i love the they have so many restuarants on tradewinds property and alot within walking distance.. our stay was great- definately give this hotel a try! :)

I wish i was still there!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/22/06
I loved it. I just got back yesterday and i really really really...wish i was still there. I read these reviews about how bad it was and it was dirty and service was horrible but it wasnt. The service was really good and it was clean. In the pictures though some things didnt look the same because they remodeled it, but ya awsome. I loved the koi pond where you could feed the fish it was nice, peaceful, dreamy. The beach was AWSOME! There were lots and lots of shells and if you looked hard enough you could find some really pretty ones. the water was nice and so was the beach. And there was fun stuff to do at the beach. Me and my friend used one of those water tricycle things which was fun, and we went parasailing!!! There wasn't a lot to do around the hotel as in like parks and stuff but you just have to drive a little. But i liked it because there weren't a super a lot of people, it was peaceful. There were lots of cool little beach shops and really good food places. My favorites were Gigi's and waffle house. ive never ate at such a good waffle house. The one were i live sucks but this one was amazing it was the best breakfast food i have ever ate in my entire life! The hotel food was pretty good at pipers patio. The hotel was clean like i said before and neat. The elevators were fun hehe. Service super good, except front desk people sometimes but front desk people are always stupid. And gift shop hads lotso things. And there are two pools for good reasons. Theres the crowded with kids and splashing main pool or kids pool and there is the peaceful pretty much never crowded quiet adult pool with the hot tub near it. I couldnt get into the gym because you have to either be 18 or with an adult but you have to get a gym card, which probably prevents kids from going in and playing with the stuff. Room was good and clean. Well i don't know what else to say but it was awsome and if you're looking for a peaceful, fun, relaxing, beautiful place to stay, stay there!
