Not your ultimate romantic place...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/08/09
This motel is like a flashback in the 1950s or 1960s. Not that I lived in those times, but the way they show those motels in the Hollywood movies.. Its decor (if that could be called a decor) probably has not been changed since the place was built. Dated carpets, dated chunky furniture, dated lamps. On a plus side, the motel is clean. Something to be aware of - since it has not been remodeled for a long time, anything can happen. Meaning, I woke up one morning from the sound of water dripping - someone above my room was taking a shower and the water started coming through the ceiling in my bathroom... Thank God they finsihed their shower within minutes and the water stopped dripping. Otherwise I might have been in trouble. The breakfast is served at the adjacent restaurant, which they call Russian, but it is actually Uzbek (the place is called Chaihana Oasis). So keep in mind - your breakfast will be served not the buffet type way they usually do at the hotels, but you will be seated at the table and waitress will come up to you to take your order. There is nothing wrong with that serving style, but... the owner of the restaurant must be quite greedy as when I came in, there was only one waitress and about 15-20 people waiting to be served. The girl was running around like mad, completely irritated. When I finally came up to her and asked if I could get some sugar and cream for my coffee she sort of exploded at me. Finally I was served breakfast after more than half an hour of waiting. So if you only have that many days in Miami, you might be better off eating your breakfast somewhere else close by (there are a few fast food places and diners nearby). Another thing to keep in mind - the receptionist mentioned to me on the phone before I arrived that there is a free shuttle at the motel that runs to South Beach. Mind you, the shuttle never runs. Or at least it never ran when I needed it. They would tell you at the reception "Oh, yes, the shuttle just left and the next one is not until two (or three?) hours later." What is the point of having a shuttle if it is never available?? So, I ended up taking regular bus 'S' to South Beach. It takes about 35 minutes to SoBe. The only good thing about this motel is its closeness to the beach - 2 minutes and you are by the ocean.

COULDN'T EVEN STAY THERE IT WAS SOOO DISGUSTING!!!
By Erin A, 12/25/08
We planned a trip to the beach for the christmas holiday and thought that this place looked nice. Well its HORRIBLE! It looks like someone took an old crack house and made it into a nightmarish hotel. The room smelled like urin, the blanket looked like it had not been washed, the toilet ran, there were wires haning out everywhere, the tv didn't work, the clock was off, you cannot control your own temperature in the room, the rooms are mainly down this creepy hall, then outside where there is contruction, there is no internet so the lady told us to steal the internet from the hotel next door, then there was a creepy old man who took us to our room, you have to pay for a hotel fee (per day) and a parking fee (per day) and the parking is horrible (you have to park in front or behind someone and if you block someone from getting out you have to give the front desk your keys, then in the lobby it smells of urin, the sign outside was broken...... I could go on and on... JUST DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!!!!! The only good thing was they refunded PART of our stay....

Memorable Experience
By Michelle, 11/25/07
My husband and I just got back from a 3 night trip from this resort. We had a fabulous time! The staff was extrememly friendly, warm and helpful upon our arrival. The hotel is old and does need some renovations but it has lots of character. If you are looking to be close to South Beach, this probably isn't the place but the beach that it offers is beautiful as well. The bar at the hotel has a great atmosphere with a fantastic view (the bartenders there are superb!) Great trip and can't wait to go back!

Would not recommend!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/22/07
The place was dirty and the staff not very helpful and creepy! The room did not have a chain lock because it had been broken off but never replaced, and the door had to be forced closed (with a hard slam or a kick). The toilet didn't flush. We got on the phone as soon as we saw the room to find a different hotel. When we told the staff that our room was unacceptable they pretty much told us good luck getting your money back if we decided not to stay. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone!!! If you are looking to stay right on the beach we found one on the same street, about three hotels down from the Monaco for only a few more dollars a night called Days Inn Thunderbird that was wonderful, still right on the beach, and much better service, and the room we stayed in had a eat-in kitchen, much better!

SPRING BREAK 07'
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/14/07
it is an older hotel but it was well worth the money. However SOUTH BEACH IS 11.49 miles and even catching the shuttle you will have to walk about 6 blocks to the clubs. the water pressure from the tub amazing. there is a walgreens and a dennys right across the street. the tiki bar and lounge was not open..THAT WAS NOT GOOD. But Denny's has a full bar, and a great waiter named **BERT**. BUT THE HOTEL STAFF IS GREAT

Okay hotel
By MarilynL, 04/06/06
My stay was okay. The location is amazing but the service was terrible. The people at the hotel need to take classes in customer service. The pool was good enough for the children and we were right off the beach which was awesome. So for the price we paid, it wasn't bad, if you don't let the people annoy you too much. We also stayed for just 4 nights, if we stayed longer I don't think I would have enjoyed my stay. They had renovations taking place while we were staying there. They were painting the floor in front of our room while we were trying to get in and out. Not good planning on their part. I also had a problem checking out, apparently they thought I had to pay when I booked it online and it was all prepaid but their paperwork showed otherwise, took 30-45 minutes to clarify.

no go
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/21/06
if you get a room facing the street, get your $$ back-- loud, noisy, smelly, no water pressure.- the bright side is the ocean & the Tiki Bar, very nice people running the bar especially Debbie-- I'll probably stay elsewhere next time but will stop by & spend time & $$ (of course) @ the bar
