We have stayed at Hidden Dunes three different times. It is a great family place with a wonderful, clean pool and one of the most beautiful beaches you can imagine. The staff were polite and helpful and our family really enjoyed our stayes there. We stayed in a 3 BR cottage that was roomy, clean and comfortable. The resort is close to great shopping and restaurants. We will definitely go back.
I picked this resort because I was told that they had WiFi available in the condos as well. I do a lot of Web Design and have a very large client base, but once I got to the condo, they told me the WiFi was "cancelled due to poor service." Convenient. I'll never fall for false advertising like this again. On top of this, the Heater smelled like Fish and the carpeting and cookware was atrocious. Nothing about this place says "Luxery." If your considering Hidden Dunes, then I suggest you go elsewhere. The location is great, but there are plenty of other places nearby. I'll be looking into Tops'l next year.
The advertising read WI-FI provided in all units, and I do a lot of work from home, so they seemed to be a good choice, and their price was reasonable, but when we got there we found out after a lot of searching and phone calls to different people that they had no WI-FI anywhere on the property, we had to go to Panera's Restaurant for Internet access!. Also the condition ot the properties leave a lot to be desired and they have all sort of fees added to their price, like cleaning fees and super high taxes, and yet they let one know they will be charged extra fees if the condo is not left completely clean, next time we are going to pay a bit more and go someplace else for shure.
I concur with the "Beware Money Making Carpet Grab." My experience was the similar, but far worse. The management company is a joke. They clearly are in this to make money and not accomodate the paying guests!
The family & I stayed at this resort the first two weeks of July 2006. Great location, pleasant staff and average (rental) condo with normal signs of wear & tear.
Two weeks afetr we left, an $80.00 U.S. charge showed up on our card. When we called we were told that it was for cleaning stains in the carpets. This despite a note we left at checkout time noting the many things (wear & tear) for fear that we would be charged. Lesson here: insist on having someone walk through the rental condo with you at check-in & check out. WE askeds but they did not want to do this as it was not their practice. (Now I know why!)Clearly, this is just another feature to grab an additional $80.00U.S.. Management staff at Hidden Dunes Resoprt gave me the brush off and could not find my list of items noted in the check-out card. Convenient!
While the view from our room was great, the surprises we got even after reading reviews and looking at the website were not so great. First of all, nowhere does it tell you that tennis court use is extra($24/hour),no cable in the extra bedroom(not good for kids), and the fitness room is not at all like it is described. Every room at Gulfside is different I guess-maybe we just had cheap owners-but our patio furniture was in terrible shape, drawers were broken, window blinds fell off daily, repairs needed to be made to various appliances(refrigerator shelf, for one). I realize it is hard to keep things working with families in and out all the time, but when you are paying for the use of someone's "space"-you expect it to be in a little better shape. We will not stay here again for many reasons, but mainly for the "hidden" costs!!!!!date of trip-June 2007
