39 reviews for Tradewinds Island Grand, St. Pete Beach
Going there in a week!
By Marcie, 07/08/09
The most magical week of our lives. We loved all the pools and the water slide. We went to bush gardens for 1 day of our vacation and wished we hadn't gone because we would've had more fun if we had just stade there. I wish I live on St. Pete beach.

Wonderful beach vacation!
By Relaxingbeachside, 10/07/08
Everything about this resort is fabulous! I was reading all of these poor reviews and I was a little hesitant about staying here, but I'm so glad we did! I have no idea where other reviewers have stayed but I don't think it was the Island Grand. The service is wonderful and the staff remembered my name from the first day! The food was awesome and I'd recommend the grouper sandwich at the Flying Bridge. The whole resort has a wonderfully laid back feel, and if you get bored with soaking up the sun by the many pools or on the beach, then there's a mind-blowing array of amenities to choose from. I loved the variety, and I stayed by the pool while my fiance hit the waterslide and then made new friends at the beach bar. The room was very comfortable and the view was to die for. Everything was spotless from the time we checked in to our last day, and I'm very particular about that sort of thing when staying away from home. All in all I was so happy with how helpful and friendly the staff were, even when other guests were creating a comotion in the lobby area. Loved the deli...so good! The grounds of the resort were pristine and tropical, and well maintained. I just can't say enough about how pleasantly surprised I was considering other reviews. The Tradewinds is a new "old favorite" for us when visiting the St. Pete Beach area.

Dreadful
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/17/08
Please take my advise & that of many others & don't stay at this hotel!! To call it a 4 star is an absolute disgrace. The rooms are dirty & claustrophobic & infested with cockroaches which crawl over you during the night & the staff don't care. Also be careful what you order from the menu you will only get it if the chef feels like cooking it!

TERRIBLE!!!!
By Crystal Fischer, 09/15/08
This is the worst place I have ever stayed. Awful service, dirty/gross rooms, roaches, remotes don't work right, staff is no help, lots of problems with a/c, etc. This hotel needs a major upgrade to be called a resort. Only nice thing is the location.

don't bother
By , 09/14/08
let's see we have been there 3 times in hope it would get better. My son is attending college in the area and we were looking for a place we could stay on a regular basis. Well the first, was ok. No one greated us had to carry our own bags, we thought okmaybe everyone was busy. Room was a suite and just ok. The remotes didn't work for the either TV thats was interesting, then we requested a couple of extra towels. We didn't get those untilthe next day. BUt I love the location on the beach, the first time we stayed was four days, the second was three days and the last and final time was 3 days. The last time we stayed I filled out a comment card, sent it in explained about the tv remotes, oh and the last time we stayed the family room of the suite didn't have power none of the lamps worked, only the tv and the mini bar. I also explained about the beer tops thrown all over. I told them I drink, but house keeping should have clean up what someone left before I got there, oh I also told them that we were looking for a place to continue to come back too. Well the letter I recieved back was thank you for your comments, and we were sorry we didn't live up to your standards, but oh well so sorry so sad was the gist of the letter. I guess I would have hoped for something in return whether come back have a drink on us, or we would like you to returnand will make your stay better. But nothing, I was a little shocked. I have stayed in a wide varitey of places from super cheap to super exspenive, and anytime I have made any comments they have always done something to correct the issues. I have never been blown off. I am now in the search for a new place to stay.

We had a BLAST!!!
By Bryan, 08/02/08
We read the reviews for this hotel before our visit (albeit after we reserved) and went with very mixed if not low expectations. Well, we were pleasantly surprised that we had the best family vacation of our life! That's right, the best family vacation of our life! We cannot for the life of us figure out how these major negative reviews came about without thinking they were self inflicted. Arrival- We were greeted by a bellman who asked if we would like to valet park the car. We pleasantly declined and stated that we would be coming and going a lot so self parking would be easier for us. He also offered to carry our bags to the room but with three kids, we had our own help as well. They were still extremely friendly. The front desk checked us in very quickly and explained how everything worked then gave us two free drink coupons since we previously joined the "Paradise Club." The Room- We got a two bedroom, tropical view suite which was beautiful and spotless. House keeping came every day and rendered our self made landfill beautiful again. The beds were comfortable and kitchen made it convenient to eat lunches in if we desired (grocery right down the street). We looked right down from our balcony to the paddle boats and the Swan Couple that graced the area. The balcony on this unit was regular size. The Resort- The grounds are constantly being cleaned and we found them comfortable if not lush. I will say the pools are small and crowded. The pool on Pirate Island seemed less crowded and was nicer than the others. The paddle boats were fun as they have a course that is about 1/2 mile round trip so you can get some exercise and look at all the HUGE Koi fish on the way around. There are numerous bars and restaurants around the resort which I'll get to momentarily. Food/Restaurants- We went out for dinner most nights but the food in the resort was grand. I had a blackened grouper that was to die for and my wife had a great shrimp dish along with the usual beach libations. The food, especially the drinks were a little on the expensive side but most hotels and resorts are high. There are plenty of great restaurants nearby including Silas' Steakhouse across the street which although a bit pricey is worth a visit. Also try Crabby Bills about 1/4 mile down the road. The Beach- The beach is HUGE! The only complaint I have about the beach is the amount of seaweed there. Other than that, the cabana chairs were great to have and the water was warm (88-90 degrees). My family- So you know where I am coming from, we are a family of five. Our three children are ages six, four and three. I am an airline pilot so I stay in many resorts and hotels around the world and have a good basis for judgment. I hope this helps another family make the decision to have a great vacation at the Tradewinds Island Grand.

July misadventure
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/07/08
It all starts at the beginning, greeted by Valet? who's only interest was getting our bags out of the trunk and getting his tip, instead of answering questions about the logistics of getting checked in; he told us that we could "take care of him here" that the bellman would be delivering our bags. It didn't get any better. The staff seemed stressed and put out with questions or when serving. Make sure you read the fine print on everything on the website and your mailed confirmation. We constantly felt nickle and dimed; Management was non engaging and when need unavailable. On the plus side, it is a wonderful location and the beach was great. Next time we will try the Don Cesear or one of the Mom & Pops down the street. Snapper's Restaurant and Skidder both across the street from the hotel were excellent and a very good value. We will avoid the Tradewinds if at all possible.

This place is a dump!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/29/08
This hotel is deffinatly not a four star resort! This place isn't even a resort! It just doesn't quallify! The rooms in this so called " resort " smell horrible. We booked a NON-SMOKING room and it stank severly of smoke. I was afraid to take a shower in that hotel room of ours. It was so FILTHY and DIRTY. Obviously the clean up was done too quickly to clean the dirt on the shower floor left by the people who stayed before us. After spending one night at this "resort" we checked-out and went to the Don CeSar which is roughly about 3 minutes away from the Tradewind " resort ". The Don CeSar is a true meaning for a FIVE STAR RESORT! And the prices only have a 20 dollar difference or so! SO I SAY if your going to book a vacation in the st pete area, book it at the good ol' Don CeSar! You won't be regretfull like us! BE AWARE AND DONT STAY AT THE ISLAND GRAND!

Great Location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/17/08
This was our first trip to St.Pete Beach and we chose the TradeWinds Island Grand because of the location. It has this beautiful long stretch of white sand and the beach cabanas was really nice, included in the fee resort! The hotel is near and within walking distance to Publix supermarket and restaurants plus there are car rentals in the area. The hotel also has live entertainment on weekends and activities for the kids. All the staff seems to be friendly and helpful. Our room has the bay view and it has 2 queen beds which we love. It has a neat little kitchen area with microwave & small fridge to put your small groceries plus plates, silver & glasses...They also supplied the room with a dining set! We really do not have much to say on the negative part of this hotel...everyday was really wonderful! I recommend this to your family coz this place is trully a family friendly hotel.
