Exceptional Guesthouse!
By ,
I've been going to this guesthouse now for many years. They have beautiful grounds, delicious swimming pool, and an awesome happy hour. Phillipe is the greatest and tends to your needs..ask him for suggestions for dinner. All in all its where I stay in Key West..and if you can..treat yourself to the apartment WORTH EVERY PENNY. Mixed crowd mostly gay but str8 people go and are very pleasant. On Fleming street..the best neighborhood in KW. Can't wait to go back!

on our way back

My partner and I went to Key West for our first time, and stayed at Alexanders(2004). The staff was very attenitive without being intrussive. The landscape was breath taking. It was excellent waking up to all the other guest ,talking about their day of adventures. The breakfast is definitely worth starting your day for. Then, there is happy hour. Free drinks and a lot of conversation, You find out where everyone is going to watck the sunset? Needless to say we had a excellent time and have booked a trip in may 2006.would recommend for any lesbian couple or single lesbian.AAA+++

How to keep them coming back
By ,
Beautiful grounds, located in a quiet neighborhood and yet just minutes from Duval St. The apartment is some of the most exceptional accommodation you're likely to find in Key West. I could not believe the rate, it was comparable to run-of-the-mill rooms in the large "straight" hotels. I was worried at first that I'd booked something "too good to be true", but when the desk clerk met us at the curb and shook our hands (and insistently carried in our bags), I had a feeling I'd "lucked out" after all. The phone rang several times during check-in, but the clerk (I forgot his name) managed to gracefully field the calls and get us to our rooms in short order. I now know why the phone is ringing so much. A cobalt-blue swimming pool is the jewel set amongst a lovely courtyard lush with tropical foliage. A third-floor sundeck was the ideal place for some "au naturel" sunbathing. I got a peak at some of the other rooms and they struck me as being unique: this is no "cracker box" hotel. Owner Raul was onsite and paying very close attention to the landscaping and decor. We even spotted him preparing breakfast one day. What's better is that he mingled with the guests at Happy Hour and personally made our restaurant reservations for us! The staff were all very attentive and eager to point us in the right direction for our activities and dining. We are trying to recall an incident when we were given a "no": it seems there wasn't any! The room was cleaned thoroughly and quickly by the friendly housekeeping staff (at OUR convenience, a BIG plus!). We rented bikes (brought right to the hotel first thing in the morning!) and getting around was a breeze. Philippe, the manager, was on a first name basis with the guests and has obviously befriended many of them over the years. What impressed me the most was how many guests were returning to the property for their 2nd, third, or even eleventh (yes i said "eleventh") visit(!) I think there are about 17 rooms there and we met 6 couples who were returning to the property! This fact alone told me I'd found a good place to stay in Key West. I strongly recommend for gay men AND lesbians. I am returning next year and will be meeting up with a lovely lesbian couple i met there. I just know it will be as much fun as this visit was. I am a VERY fussy traveller and they have reduced me to a raving fan- Kudos to Alexander's Guesthouse!

Home away from home
By ,
It's a good thing to be away from Duval so that you have a retreat from the craziness there, and Alexander's certainly is. I wished it were a couple blocks closer though and that is my only complaint, and is so insignificant compared to my overall joy that I happened upon this place. The room I had was quite large for K.W. standards. After meeting some of the friendly other guests and being allowed to peek into their rooms, I am pretty sure most if not all the rooms are spacious and very nicely appointed. The nicest part about our stay at Alexanders was the staff and the guests we met while there. Being locals, the staff offered great informal concierge service. They were all very friendly and concerned that our stay was comfortable, and enjoyable. Even more than that, they were personable and I feel that when I go back, I will be visiting friends there. The free, pretty much full bar happy hour, and free breakfast that I would characterize as 'Continental Plus', facilitates meeting new friends and mingling w/guests. We actually ended up hitting some nightlife with some of the guests we met and were on a first name basis with most of the guests. Social hour isn't rammed down your throat though, and you can easily remain relatively anonymous should you choose. Though the place has a social atmosphere, it does stay respectfully quiet in the evening/overnight. It's a fairly small place (maybe 15 rooms) so even in the day odds are that most people are out and about. I would say it's even suitable for business travel when quiet at night is required. Great landscape complete w/huge blooming (spring-time) Poinciana with pool/spa well maintained and sparkling. Thanks everyone at Alexanders, we'll see you again soon!
