I would never stay their again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/3/09
My stay in this old dirty Inn was a night to forget. I had Ants in my room including my bed for starters. The second part of this nightmare was listening to the faucet dripping all night long which just happened to be within nightstand reach of the bed. Let me just say that the water in the mold infested ,tiny bathroom smelled foul. I called the desk and they where no help. I was stuck in this hellish room for the night. Let me also say that the walls and ceilings looked as if they where going to fall on my head and the side of the vanity was pealing off and had huge water stains inside it. In the morning I turned in my complaint upon check out and I explained to the clerk that I was extremely upset at the money I spent on a room where I couldn’t sleep more then an hour at a time because I thought I had Ants crawling on me or because I was forced to listen to a dripping faucet all night long. The clerk took my name and number and said management would call me about my stay . Guess what they never did. •Would you recommend it to others? Never •Was it worth the time/money? No they should have refunded my stay. •Was the experience fun? Its real fun killing Ants at Midnight.

Better than I expected
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/12/08
I liked the room and thought the staff were very friendly, I was travelling on my own but the warm reception made me feel at ease and very comfortable. It was a small room but clean (isn't that what matters??) Breakfast was pleasant and afternoon sherry was nice. Overall I enjoyed my experience very much, it isn't luxury but the price reflected that. Pleasant, clean and a bargain price.

Warning, Stay Away!!
By Sujatha, 12/9/07
I had an awful experience at the Windsor Inn. I stayed there for one night, in the supposed deluxe room, which was just a few ugly and uncomfortable beds, with an old tv placed out of view. The taps in the sink did not work, when I tried to call reception, the phone did not call out. And the worst, at 5am, I received a wakeup call from reception, when I never asked for it! I couldn't fall back asleep till 7.30am, then I slept in and missed my morning meeting. The manager was extremely unfriendly when I complained, offered at the most to refund $20 from the cost of the room, then accused me of threatening him. Do not make the mistake of staying in this place. I have stayed in hotels across the world, and have never come across one as bad as this. I am posting this where-ever possible.

Swankadenda with an edge of decay
By Zon, 8/15/07
I loved this joint. We were possibly upgraded from our original digs cuz we somehow ended up in a 1st floor suite that was bigger than my entire apartment in NYC (granted, not hard to do) and well less than $200 a night). Maybe i'm easy to please but i felt like i was stylin it and that our room was very tasteful. Our suite had a/c, a big living room with desk and widescreen tv, wetbar type sink (cool!), fridge, and nice selection of books on the shelves, quiet back bedroom with phone and large closet area to store belongings. Pros: Very clean and no peculiar smells. Cleaning staff did good job. Very comfortable (My mates took the bedroom, i slept like a baby on the pullout sofa, and the 11 yr old happily camped out on couch cushions in the closet). Nice and helpful staff (one dug around and found a cell charger to lend me- life saver). Cool details like sherry laid out for nightcaps in the commons area, a lovely outside area for reading one of the free Washington Posts and drinking complimentary coffee. Pretty and green neighborhood close to restaurants and action. There's also a convenience store right across the street. Handy! The decorative books in the room are actually REALLY GOOD READS. I tucked in every night with a great bio, history, or novel. Wireless access (i had WIreless N which would pick up through the door on the 1st floor but my travel mates had problems with their wireless abg modems so they had to go into the hall study) Good water pressure and the toiletries were Way nicer than the Holiday inn we'd stayed at the night before. Decent continental breakfast with bottomless cups of coffee and tea, cereals, yoghurt, & breads (croissant/danish/donuts, etc..), juice. Safe (the place is always locked and the staff let guests in) - never scary like some of those big ass hotels. CONS: Breakfast stuff *was* a little sweet. I was dying for an egg. Coffee was good tho. A/C from the room above dripped on my a/c which sounded like it was softyly raining outside. Not a big deal tho and if i'd bothered to complain, i'm sure the staff would have remedied it, they were so nice. As mentioned, some may have a problem connecting to wireless inside their rooms. I didnt, but you may. TV reception could have been sharper/clearer. The selection of cable channels was pretty good ,tho. I would totally stay in this place again (especially if i could score that room). The staff knew the area very well and were so nice and helpful (personally, i would be super grouchy having to buzz people in all day). It was a slightly rough around the edges but in general, clean, safe, tasteful, and had a nice personal feel. All ages in our party felt we were treated with respect and kindess.

Terrible
By Dylan, 5/1/07
Wow. I didn't think that hotels this bad could exist in a great city like DC. The Windsor Inn was easily one of the worst hotels I've ever had the misfortune of visiting. I was given acommodations on the "garden" level. No garden was visible, just lots of cardboard boxes and storage closets. It was more like a dungeon. The management told us that our room was "one of their best". Woe unto the rest of the guests. I don't usually write reviews but have promised myself that I would try to warn as many people as possible about this terrible place. Please stay away.

Disappointing stay at Windsor
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/20/06
We stayed at the Windsor Inn with our child for 7 days this Spring. I loved the location and the charming feel and the fact that they didn't spray pesticides indoors. I like antique, mature looking interiors. However, some things were just falling apart and in poor condition. Someone else showed me their room in the bottom floor and it was in even worse condition than ours. In addition, the manager obviously didn't like kids, snapping at ours for asking to turn the channel of the t.v. in the commons room that no one appeared to be watching. The continental breakfast was not very nutritious, consisting of doughnuts and high sugared yogurt. The cereals were o.k., offering some corn flakes in addition to the sugary ones. The danishes provided were the cheap types. The breakfasts are promptly removed, one morning even 5 mins. early but the maids brought back some cereal for me. We booked a room for 3 people, since they kindly offered a cot for the one queen size bed room. The room was the size of our bathroom at home and the cot literally sagged so much in the middle, it was at 45 degrees in the center. Staff came in and said that's the way it is. Only a child could sleep on a broken cot like that! They didn't tell us that once we put the cot in, there would be no room to even step in the room! So when we tried to check out earlier, the manager insisted we give 72 hr notice. We decided to honor the contract, stayed our 5 days, and gave a notice by telephone and he said it would be o.k. to check out by a certain date. However, when we were checking out, another desk person told us the manager we spoke with charged us for the entire stay because we didn't give notice in time. We concluded that this manager must may be making money from us staying longer or have a mental condition where he really doesn't remember conversations. Regardless, due to our experience, we'll not return to this Windsor Inn.

No elevator - not for biz traveller
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/27/05
Stayed at the Windsor for one night with a TV crew - the location was great but for anybody lugging many cases this is the wrong choice. Not only is there no elevator but there are steps to go up even for rooms on the ground floor. And frankly some of the rooms are way too small. Additionally if you need internet or even extensive use of the telephone this is not your spot. That being said, the staff is friendly, the location superb (near Dupont Circle, cafes, restos etc)and if you aren't traveling heavy and like a funky older feel it's a nice place.

Great location, gracious service
By Jessie Royce, 5/27/05
This is a European-feeling inn on a tree-lined avenue in DuPont Circle, close to cafes and restaurants. Rooms are well-appointed and comfortable. Rates reasonable. Feels homey, with continental breakfast and afternoon sherry served in the lobby. Very pleasant.

WOWED BY THE WINDSOR@
By RebeccaL, 5/19/05
Looking for an inexpensive, quaint, bed and breakfast type experience - then this is the hotel for you. Nothing fancy, but this little out of the way hotel, with its afternoon sherry in the lobby, and neighborhood atmosphere, was just the ticket for us four southern ladies visiting D.C. Although we changed rooms for several reasons, and there are no elevators, it was a hotel I would recommend for traveling on a budget. Close enough to walk, and catch the bus or grab a taxi, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would recommend this hotel. Oh, and the front desk people were hysterical. Every day a new person was on duty, and we kept them busy with our room changes. The only suggestion I would make - don't carry too much luggage. The stairs will get you and they don't have a lot of help. But, if you like french decor, out of the ordinary type hotels, this is just the ticket to a fun stay in D.C. enjoying the sites with a taste of local neighborhood living.
