Perfect Night!
By ,
Had a great room and the view outside was spectacular! The desk made us feel welcome and we talked to them everytime we left the hotel. Only thing i would suggest is booking this at SweetHotelDeals. Net

GREAT LOCATION FOR SMITHSONIAN MUSEUMS
By ,
The location is great for walking to the museums. The room was clean and the staff helpful. No bugs! Our room was on the 7th floor away from the trains and elevator, no problem with noise. The room is a little small, (double bed standard) you can't setup your suitcase at the end of the bed. But there is an in room refrigerator. The area around the hotel is business, across the street from the Department of Education, mostly during the day people in suits walking around instead of some of the characters as in other parts of the city. There is nothing to do at night around the hotel, the streets are quiet and empty, the CVS pharmacy shuts down early. The hotel is close to the Metro and has a taxi stand in front. I had no problem with the food. The hotel is attached to a Starbucks, has a full service restaurant, a full service bar open to midnight and a deli express. The bar food was good, priced right and large servings. The staff was friendly even when busy. There is a CVS Pharmacy, Quiznos, and McDonalds right next door. The pool is on the roof and you have to take a flight of steps to get to it from the 9th floor. I was disappointed that it was closed for the season and the door to the pool area was locked. I would have liked to have been able to see the view. We had no problems staying here. Good for families or people wanting to see the sights of DC, but not good for people looking for nightlife. No bars, no restaurants, no shopping, etc. We had a great trip and enjoyed our stay here!

BED BUGS!!!
By ,
Avoid this hotel at all costs!! We discovered bed bugs crawling on our bed after the first night of staying in this hotel. Our room had a huge infestation. The hotel staff were very rude and unhelpful (except Edith). They sent all of our clothes to be cleaned and the dry cleaners shrunk and destroyed almost all of our clothes. The hotel only comped one night of our 4 night stay and did not offer to pay for our destroyed clothing. This was a bed bug nightmare. AVOID this hotel! It was an awful experience. The staff is unorganized and rude and the hotel is infested with BED BUGS!! Absolutely disgusting!!

Awesome staff!!!
By ,
We stayed here last November 2008 and they were awesome! front desk staff were genuinely concern and very attentive to my kid's needs and they were very accomodating. The breakfast buffet was great and the staff. We visited Washington again last December and tried another popular hotel, more expensive but costumer service ass pitiful. We will visit Washington again this feb. and this time we will stick with Holiday Inn!

Great hotel, give it a try
By ,
We arrived on Christmas Eve. I booked us the Holiday Special which included free parking and discounted breakfast. Even though businesses closed early for Christmas Eve, the both restaurants were open. The wait staff was very attentive and the food was good. A little expensive but good. The undergroud parking was a little difficult to maneuver. It's very tight and confusing as far as where the hotel above ground is. We ended up coming out in the FEMA building. The hotel is out of the way but close enough so that we walked the Capitol Mall and up 7th street for several blocks without any problem. The staff was great. The hotel wasn't very busy so we were upgraded to a one bedroom king suite. We will definitely be back when we visit DC again.

Nice hotel but...
By ,
As mentioned in other reviews, request a room away from the side of the building facing the railroad tracks. Otherwise, great hotel for the price and the location can't be beat.

Much nicer than expected
By ,
The Holiday Inn Capitol exceeded our expectations. The location was across the street from the metro so getting there from Ronald Regan Airport was a breeze. We were in walking distance from the Mall. The staff was courteous and very helpful with our room reservations to finding our way around D.C. We would be glad to stay with you again. Atlanta, Ga.

Extremely \"Busy\" hotel
By ,
I booked my room right after Christmas. When we arrived, three tour busses of high school aged kids had also just arrived. We got our room assignment after a 35 minute wait. Got up to the room, and someone was already in it. On the way down the elevator, I discussed my misfortune with another guest and he said the same thing just happened to them. So, another 25 minute wait. The person who helped me did come up to the newly assigned room with me to check it out. However, it was now close to 8:30 pm, we were in the air all day and the five of us were starving and tired. I thought an upgrade offer, a reduced one night offer, a free meal offer, anything, would have been nice. The restaraunts are OK for food. Way overpriced for the quality.Go to an off site reataraunt and eat. McDonalds and Quiznos a block away. The location to the Mall and museums is 2nd to None. The lack of an Off Sale liquor option anywhere is unfortunate.Pool was cold. Lots of activity in the halls at night when we stayed.

Disappointing at best
By ,
My husband, son, and I stayed at the hotel during the cherry blossom festival at the end of March 08. I, unfortunately, did not read the reviews warning people about the trains. We were on the 5th floor in the back of the hotel, right above the tracks. The trains ran most of the night and practically shook the windows. I had chosed this hotel because kids eat free in the downstairs restaurant. Breakfast buffet was $2 for my son but $14 per adult person (clearly making up for the kid's breakfast). Conceirge was less than helpful in finding things to do at night (besides a pricey guided tour) and recommended a terrible restaurant on the wharf, within "walking distance"...Please don't walk to the wharf from this hotel unless you have adequate provisions. My husband, a firefighter, ended up stopping off at Washington Ladder 10 to ask them for a recommendation (which, by the way guys, was great, thank you!) Note that the pool doesn't open until May, so if you go before then, don't tell the kids. It will save a lot of whining. And, if you have an oversized vehicle, be prepared to have to park in the unsecured lot. Finally, everyone is right, it is a great location, and if you don't require a lot of sleep and have an endless supply of money to eat bad food, this is the place for you!
