BEST WESTERN Olympic Inn, Groton

My husband and I stayed for two nights. We had the most enjoyable time. The gentleman, Tom, checked us in was great as was the young lady, Jennifer, who checked us out. We ate dinner the first night and breakfast the second morning and both were great. The pool was big and very clean. This is our hotel of choice from now on. Ten minutes tops from Mystic and fifteen from Mohegan Sun was a bonus. Plus they offer a shuttle that will drop you off and pick you up from the casino. Cant wait to return!!

I had booked reservations at the BestWestern because the Mohegan Sun was booked for several months. When I read the reviews on Yahoo was very worried about my hotel stay. However, I was very pleasantly surprised. The rooms were very clean, the furniture was new, and it didn't even smell like smoke when I walked into my smoking room. The hotel staff was also very courteous. It was definitely worth the 15 minute drive to the Mohegan Sun for the money I saved by staying in Groton. I would recommend staying at this Best Western if you want to save some money and willing to sacrifice on luxuries.

I liked that the restaurant was in the building and the entire hotel and restaurant staff was pleasant.The pricing wasn't bad, even though I got a good price and usually you get what you pay for, I think I got a little better then that.

We stayed here for a night when we went to Mystic.The prices were great.Decor was simple.AAA rating is a little wrong I think!There was a simple restraunt and small pool area.Next time i am only 30% sure I would stay here Again.Plus it was far from Mystic!

Just came back from two nights at the Best Western Olympic and was very satisfied. First, the front desk was very courteous. The place was clean, as was our room. I requested a non-smoking room. Bathroom was roomy, towels were clean and we had plenty of them, we also had a microwave, coffee pot and refrigerator. Room overall was nice, had all the basics. Beds were comfortable. This hotel has a nice indoor jacquzzi and pool which was secure. You had to use your room key to enter the pool room/exercise room. All of these rooms were clean. Elevators available. The hotel is 3 or 4 stories. Parking was ample. The restaurant, Flanagans, is attached and was also very good and clean. People were friendly, service was good. Also, guests are given a $10 voucher daily to use in the restaurant or for room service. Also there is a Dunkin Donuts located right next to the parking lot which was a plus!! We were 15 minutes from Mystic attractions. All in all it was a pleasant visit and I would stay there again.

I would not stay there again. In spite of the decent rate and good location. Our complaints seemed to fall on deaf ears. There were no glasses in the room, some of the lamps did not work, and we were awakened at about 3 a.m. by 4 young men pounding on one of the doors trying to get into their locked room which lasted about 30 minutes or so. That was the end of our night's rest. We could not call the desk as there was no designation on the telephone for the front desk. The room reeked of stale cigarette smoke. Being a smoker, I have stayed in smoking rooms before and never encountered this problem. When addressing these problems to the front desk staff, the answer was "Oh, sorry. Here's your bill". I will never stay in this Inn again I will pay twice the amount next time and stay at the Mohegan Sun as we usually do. That is what we get for trying to save a few dollars. Not worth it. I am going to contact Best Western also and inform them I would like my money back.

The room was nice, convenient, and clean. The free continental breakfast was good with more variety than we expected. The staff was helpful and courteous.

Basically this hotel had one problem. My husband, young son and I specifically requested a non-smoking room. We hate smoking. We hate breathing it in. I am very allergic to it and always get a headache when I smell it. Well, despite our requests, our non-smoking room was located next door to a smoker. The whole hallway seemed poorly divided in a mishmash of smoking and non-smoking rooms. The corridor stunk of smoke. Our room, near the door, smelled of smoke.

The price of the room was reasonable. The two double beds comfortable and clean. The microwave, refridge, and coffeemaker were welcome bonuses. The hotel offers 10 dollars a day in "money" you can use if you go to eat in their restaurant. We didn't.

The hotel was located about a few minutes drive (didn't time it) from Mystic Aquarium. You may consider staying in Groton over Mystic because rooms seemed a bit cheaper away from the attractions.

I had to rate the value poor because the smell of cigarettes ruined our stay. Even though the staff offered to move us the next day, we felt there was no point. Obviously they didn't understand mixing smoking rooms next to non-smoking would produce this problem.

So, if you are a smoker or non-smoker who isn't bothered by cigarette smoke, then stay at this hotel. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and steer clear of Groton's Best Western. The wisdom of non-smoking floors seems to have eluded the people who run this establishment.
