Rodeway Inn Estes Park, Estes Park

The staff was rude, incompetent, and misleading - at best! We did not have hot water, the room was shabby, the staff did not care AND they charged us DOUBLE the amount they quoted on the phone (and online). Before we left our home, I requested email confirmation of the reservations and price - twice - no confirmation was ever received. We moved to a different hotel the next night, stayed there 4 nights and it was perfect. There are many nice places to stay in Estes so just avoid this one! I wrote to Choice Hotels and received a "sorry for your inconvenience" reply - nothing more. Really hate being ripped off - hope it doesn't happen to you.

We booked our last nights stay because Choice Hotels told us the Comfort Inn down the road had no availability. I booked this room thinking it would be fine since we were referred to it by Choice Hotels. We were wrong. When we arrived the hotel had no security locks on entrances to the outside door. The hallway was dark, and the carpeting was extremely soiled. The ice machine had dirty hand prints all over the front of it. The room was of average size, but again the carpeting was soiled and had not been vacuumed. The nightstands were full of dust and crumbs. The bathroom toilet had clearly not been cleaned. The hot tub was falling apart on the outside. The inside looked like water scum. The pool was actually a good size and didn't look quite as bad. We were absolutely shocked that Choice Hotel had referred us here. We had stayed at the Comfort Inn the night before which was a really nice place! The Rodeway Inn did not compare to that hotel one bit. We decided we just could not stay here the one last night of our vacation. The receptionist employees were actually nice when I requested a refund. They promptly gave us a refund. We actually went back to the Comfort Inn down the road, and they had a room available. We could not understand why we were referred to the Rodeway Inn. We will never again stay at a Rodeway Inn and word of advise, call directly to a hotel. The referrals aren't always what you might think they are.

Upon arrival, my first opinion of this place is that the lobby area is very warm, inviting, with the lighting, the fireplace going, and the TV on the local Estes Park channel. The front desk girl was very very nice and helpful with answering all the questions I had for her, since it had been awhile since I had been to Estes Park. She was just great. The rooms were clean, roomy, and although I had made a mistake and had left my DND on the door, when I got back to the hotel and come to find out, it was all my fault housekeeping had not come in that day, they were so very gracious to call housekeeping to my room-although I was very embarrassed. I do appreciate them coming back, even though apparently they were off work for the day-housekeeping does not work 24 hours a day, I know. And, maintenance, talk about feeling stupid! I had the front desk call maintenance to my room because I could not get a light on-come to find out, all I had to do was turn a switch on on the wall! Talk about feeling like a dummy-after all, I have a light on a switch at home, just like there. Anyway, the maintenance man that came up was so very sweet, he didnt make me feel stupid, as I had done that enough myself-The pool was just wonderful, and the hot tub made my old, worn out bones and muscles feel just wonderful! The breakfast-BISCUITS AND GRAVY!!! YUM!!! It was just wonderful! Anyone who complains about this place is apparently not going to be happy when they wake up on the right side of the grass!!! Or, maybe they just want a few free nights so they complain about anything and everything they can think of. Too bad they try to ruin it for the people that truly do appreciate a good, clean, fun place to stay, with such a wonderful staff! I plan on going back to Estes with some of my friends on a "girls time out" as well as with my husband and family real soon, and I can't wait to get back there! Dont let those other bad review fool you! The just want some free stuff apparently-or, maybe just made mistakes themselves on those reservations???? When was the last time they walked on water, as my great grandmother use to say!!?? To err is human-dont forget, we're all human. I wouldnt think of staying anywhere else. There's two restaurants right across the street which that one reviewed failed to mention-RIGHT!!?? So, you all see what I mean? Someone should call a WHINEBULANCE for these people. I was visiting due to a reunion. I made my reservation over three months previous to the date of the reunion. I was told that due to no other suites being availible, I would be given the family suite at the mountain view suite price, due to being with a large group. After checking in, I was basically told that I was lying and had never been told such a thing. I had my confirmatin number but was also told there were not notes in the computer to verify this. The manager also directly insulted my mother while speaking to her on the telephone while we were trying to resolve the confusion. After having to move rooms, I was charged another rate that was higher than I had previously been quoted three months earlier for that type of room. The room rates were suppose to be set for the reunion quests. They changed the menu for our dinner in the conference room without notice. I will never go back there again. I am in the process of lodging a formal complaint with the Rodeway Inn/Choices hotels company.

This hotel used to be one of the best cheap hotels around. It was clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel was bought out over a year ago and it has steadily gone down hill. The owner is mean and doesn't know what customer service means. I am an organizer of scrapbook retreats and have been coming to this hotel for years. When the hotel changed hands, they let the place go. Sure it's cheap and most of the times the rooms are clean. Feel free to stay here if you don't mind the shower nozzle coming off in your hand or standing in 4 inches of water while you shower. The toaster and microwave can't work at the same time for their free but crummy breakfast. They may lose your reservation as often as they'll have it and it will be your fault when they do. It has a good location and the rooms are cheap, but you'll hear your neighbors snore and their music playing. If you go to an event on Sunday beware as the bathrooms are always cleaned.

The service and hospitality was horrendous!! We were staying there for a family reunion and the people who worked there messed up on the reservations. My husband's mother planned the reunion 9 months in advance, requested specific suites that had kitchens (since we would be preparing food for the family dinners), and when we got to the Inn, they had given the suites away to other families. This was booked (and deposits paid for)9 months in advance!! And the people who worked at the front desk were rude - as if this was all OUR fault. And the owner of the place was also rude and dispicable. We will NEVER stay at this place again, and urge others not to as well!

At check-in we find our reservation for a suite was cancelled and we had no room. Instead of giving us replacement rooms at the same price they charged us even more for the single rooms than the suite would have cost. Management didn't do anything to assist in the situation. Several other people, including ones not in our family, had similar experiences. Dirty rooms, sheets that wouldn't stay on because they didn't fit, did not clean our room without a call, etc. Don't let this hotel ruin your vacation to this beautiful area.

I just like a place to sleep when I go on vacation since I spend very little time in the room. I want clean and cheap. I tried cheaper places than The INN, but there are only a few cheaper places in town and they are usually full unless you book long in advance. This is just a place to sleep, nothing fancy. If you want scenic views of the mountains and streams or you plan to spend time in the room then you will be forking over a lot more cash than this place charges. This is a good place to stay on 4th of July, since you just walk across the street to view the fireworks. But the best places to stay if you want scenery are on the other side of town by the river that flows from the national park. The best thing about this place is that it has A/C. Virtually no other place in this price range does. You don't need it after 10pm at night, but it is sure nice if you come in from hiking at 4pm not to have an 85 degree room to deal with. They also have good safe heating and that is very important to me. Some of the other cheaper hotels are death traps in my opinion. Most of them are located on this same road just across the street. I am just counting the days until the disaster occurs. I am pretty shocked it hasn't aready happened. Unfortunately Estes Park is one of most expensive tourist destinations around. Compared to West Yellowtone where you can get a decent motel room for 60 bucks a night. In Estes Park decent means at least 100 bucks a night. Plus all the room taxes are insane in Estes Park. At least 50% higher than any other place I ever go. If you book it make sure you get them to tell you the final price not just the room price. It is a big difference.
