Stanley Hotel, Estes Park

Hotel Management did NOT honor their online advertising. We went on their website and reserved 5 rooms at a rate of $54. When we called the hotel to confirm the rate, they said that I accessed some unique code on their website. They said they would not honor the rate. They only said that if we did not cancel the reservation, they would charge us $319 a night per room. I think there are laws against this type of advertising? We printed out all coorespondance with the hotel including confirmation numbers and rate details.

We tried to get a reservation in the Main Hotel, but we were told there was nothing available so we settled for the Manor House. Do not waste your time or money! It cost $150 for a Friday night and $200 for a Saturday. Honestly, I've stayed at nicer hotels for under $100. The room was tiny, there was a hole in the wall, chipped paint, cords messily hanging down from the wall-mounted tv, and the upholstered chair was ripped. But worst of all, was the dog barking and running around on the top floor. It was explained to us that some of the Stanley staff live on the top floor of the Manor House and they obviously have pets. Luckily, after calling the front desk twice to complain, we spoke to a very cool manager who moved us to a room in the main house at no extra charge. However, we watched four other customers complain about this dog at check out time and sadly, they either received nothing for their trouble or only a free breakfast - which was hardly a fair compensation. Watching how the management dealt with these poor folks left a bad taste in my mouth and sullied the courteous treatment my husband and I received. Even the Main House room was pricey for what it was. Again, I've stayed in nicer suites for the same or less money. The lamp didn't work, and there was a toothpaste lid from a previous lodger stuck in the drain (which was gross). Overall, I would definitely not recommend the Manor House to anyone. I would recommend the Main House with some cautions. The public areas are beautiful and historic and the views from the hotel are stunning. There is The Shining angle as well. However, it is overpriced and we could have had a terrible weekend if we hadn't lucked out by speaking to a great manager.

We just returned from a weeks stay at the Stanley Hotel. I must admit, I read some reviews prior to leaving on vacation and was more than concerned by what I read. Am I ever glad we didn't believe what we read. The room was wonderful, the staff was eager to assist in any way they could, the food was scrumptious. No...there is no air conditioning, however, opening the windows at night and having crisp, clean breezes wafting through the room is just the thing for a relaxing sleep. The view is astounding...particularly for a flat-lander like me. I would stay at the Stanley Hotel again and again. Thank You Stanley Hotel, for making my vacation relaxing and beautiful.

We just were at the Stanley Hotel a couple of days ago. The Hotel has nothing to do with the movie, "The Shining," starring Jack Nicholson. Stephen King spent one night in the hotel and went back to Boulder and finished his book. Not one frame of the movie was filmed at this hotel. The hotel is a fine place to visit but if you think you are going to see and/or hear about the movie don't waste your time. We could have spent the whole day in Rocky Mt. National Park rather than waste our vacation time on something that is so misleading. We felt like it was nothing more than a tourist trap making money on misrepresentation!

Only stayed at the Stanley for one night, but it was memorable. Hotel has an incredible location and rich history. Views are breath-taking. For lunch, I had the best trout I've ever eaten. Can't wait to visit again some day.

We found the staff very helpful and the dining very good. The location could not be better, a short ride to Rocky Mt Nat Pk, or night life in Estes Park. It is not the newest hotel on the block and if that is what you're looking for go somewhere where they make cookie cutters, but if you want a wonderful experience, this is it.

Staff was arrogant, rude,very uppity, did not want to be bothered with questions.Service was terrible Very small rooms,and did not even leave fresh soap or shampoo after cleaning. They need to keep playing up the Steven King angle because thats all they've got.You will get better value and sevice at motel 6

We disliked everything. The Stanley Hotels' reputation was far from what is advertised, we have never experienced such bad management, service & total lack of respect in our lives. We strongly advise no-one to endure the disaster which we faced when attempting to check in (5 months in advance!) . It seems everything is too much trouble for the incompetant staff & the place is complete chaos-a waste of time, money & effort and a complete let down from start to finish-would have been more comfortable in a Best Western. How disappointing- Never Again!!!! We would never recommend the hotel to anyone.

I had read mixed reviews about the Stanley. When we arrived 5 hours before check-in the staff had no problem having a room ready for us.This was great ,I'm not a good traveler.The hotel was fantastic..pictures aren't enough.Our room was clean and very airy.Let it be known no air conditioning,but open the windows and turn on the ceiling fan.My husband has to have ac but we had no problem at all in our room.The entire stay was perfect.We talked to some other couples staying in Estes Park and the rates at the Stanley are very comparable.It's close to everything that you could want to do. I would definitely stay again. Make sure to bring lots of film because photo ops are everywhere.

The hotel is nice, but unless you get a deal, I do not think that the service is equal to the cost of a room. A MUST is the ghost tour. Very enlightening.
