It Wasn't All Good

Good news, bad news; the bad news is, I am not sure about all the rooms, but we had a king suite/town view and it came with no microwave or refridgerator. We like trying different restaurants and some places had the best food and we would have liked to bring back our leftovers for later in the evening from some places we tried, especially with two hungry kids. But, no refridgeration or microwave. Maybe it was their idea of getting people to eat at their restaurant instead of having the option of bringing in food from the outside. The only problem with that is, you better like their food. The hotel restaurant was very POOR! I expected more from this 4 star hotel that gets such great reviews and for the money, they might want to rethink the quality of food they put out. Hormel meat products for lunch and breakfast items and generic grocery store-bought potato salad was really bad. We had dinner there only one night, I ordered salmon, it was overcooked and very dry. We had breakfast there on two mornings but the quality of the food was like that you would have found at a lower class hotel offering a continental breakfast. Actually I wondered why they didn't offer that at least. I had ordered a corned beef hash and eggs one morning and my corned beef was cold when it got to the table. I wondered if they had only lightly microwaved it...plus, it wasn't quality corned beef either, just your basic out of the tin-can Hormel
stuff--cold...yuck! Cleanliness, We stayed 5 nights and only one day did we get a really clean room, and that was only because I called and complained very nicely; they offered a "VIP" room cleaning for the following day. When I saw the VIP cleaning, I wondered why it had to be ordered as a VIP cleaning and not cleaned like that all the time. Other than that one day of VIP cleaning it was back to the way they kept the room before; Trash left on the floors, unreplaced drinking glasses, poor vacuming, uncleaned bathroom counters, rinse only job on the tub and maybe a quick sweep on the bathroom tiled floor.
The good news; the hotel is in a good location, and if available, you might get a room with a river view. We had to extend our stay and they did accomodate us for an extra 2 nights since there were no other places available in town. The hotel staff were all pleasant. They do have some really good chocolate chip cookies, but, they offer free cookies at the front desk when you check in, but charged us for them at the restaurant which I thought was kind of odd.
I might stay at this hotel again if other hotels were booked and it was sort of last resort, but for the price, I'd rather drive that extra distance and have a clean room to come back to at the end of a long day, have a choice of being able to bring in some micro-wave popcorn or dinner left-overs for the kids and a place to keep food or beverages cold. Since I didn't care for their quality of food at their restaurant we had to drive out anyway to find a place to eat our meals--so why bother on location? 2-stars might be rating this hotel too low but three stars is stretching it a bit...maybe a 2-1/2 star would be close to the rating I would give it.
