Vail getaway August 2008

Splurge and get the condo. We stayed in condo room 370 and it was fantastic. Paul Lovelace, the manager, called us by name and gave us the upgrade from a room on the first floor, which is actually two floors below the loby to the 3rd floor, just down the hall and around the corner from the lobby.
The hotel staff was wonderful and the maid service was excellent. We especially liked the shower in the second bathroom that had a seat bench.
Unfortunately they do not have a breakfast option during the summer. They do have a cafe called the Mezaluna just off of the lobby and they have nice but sort of expensive food. Great bartender though. One drink, a whiskey sour, cost $9.00 which I guess isn't that bad for Vail.
The Lion Square Lodge is on the west side of Vail so it is a bit of a walk to get to the restaurants in Vail and don't think about driving because there are only parking garages on the outskirts and you have to walk anyway. There is a good bus system that will get you around but lots of kids.
We are a couple in our 40's and were surprised that the bratty children in the fancy restaurants where we ate. I loved the Lancelot, in the heart of Vail on Bridge Street. Very pricey but excellent food: Surf and turf and rack of lamb were my favorites.
I would recommend this hotel to anybody but like I said, the condos on the third floor and above are really the way to go. A little more pricy but really well worth it.
The pool was great, lots of empty seats plus they have two hot tubs. The pool area is open from 10am-10pm.
Have a great time and enjoy the fantastic views.
